Please keep it constructive - this isn't intended to be a thread to discuss PGI's business strategies or how you feel about past purchases, etc. It's to go back to your day one mech pilot self and give a single piece of advice. Something along the lines of "The heaviest most expensive mech isn't necessarily the best."

So - whatcha got?

Submissions so far
Torgun: Farm CBills and farm it hard
Deathlike: XL Engines are crazy expensive
Kira Onime: GHOST HEAT
Burktross: This game isn't as easy as MW4
Bishop Steiner: Eventually aiming will be too easy
WARKHAN: How different it is from Mechwarrior 4.
El Bandito: Will regret purchasing all those lbx
cdlord: F2P is going to be expensive
Brody319: Don't waste money on Catapult a1 or trebuchets
Mcgral18: Check your armor when you buy a new mech (this is a good one! -Fiero)
Fierostetz: Get a gaming mouse
FrontGuard: you can have long usernames
JC Daxion: The xl-210 that comes with a raven 3l works great in the commando
Tyler Valentine: Money is hard to come by. Purchase mechs carefully.
Zeroaimer: Don't buy Orions
The Atlas Overlord: The money you spend upgrading a mech won't be recouped when you sell it.
fat4eyes: Assault mechs are not the best mechs for newbies.
Kubernetes: A hollow triangle means you can see it but nobody else does. Push R to help the team.
Pjwned: Wish I'd bought a light mech first. Would have learned the game properly.
Dimento Graven: Gaming mice and keyboards are surprisingly brittle and fragile
FupDup: Or headsets!
TLBFestus: If I'd known what ghost heat and quirks would have done I'd not have supported either.
Team Chevy86: But Endo, not FF
illudium q 36: Wish I had understood the delta in skill levels between new and veterans.

Farm CBills and farm it hard, before the Nerfinator focus on nerfing it.

Yeah, I bought three engines for my first mech not realizing the cadet bonus would run out.

that they would eventually remove imperfect convergence and stick us with this lame "Aiming for Dummies" easy aim system we have for mass precision focus fire.

Since about 90% of your "balance" issues can be traced directly to how easy it is to mass alpha fire to any location you want.

How different it is from Mechwarrior 4. I went out there in my Catapult and got hammered!
I also wasted a bunch of my Cadet bonus on mechs I really had no interest in and ended up selling.

I wish I had known PGI was going to shut down MWLL before I gave them money, that is for sure.

That the Clans would make a mess of the game balance, and PGI is not competent enough to handle it.

Also, I regret purchasing all those LBX. :(

The thread isn't intended to generate criticism toward PGI - please don't turn it into another gripe fest, there are plenty of other threads already available for that.

The one thing I wish I'd known....

That for a F2P game I'd be up to over $1700 spent so far. Not regretting it at all. Just wish I could have prepared better. :P

Not to waste my money on a Catapult A1, or the Trebuchet.

Is the Nerfinator a PGI business strategy?
If not, I'd put that forward.

Otherwise, frontloading armour.
Very useful, you live longer. Or, on an even more basic premise: Check your armour when you buy a new mech. Loki coming in at 60% armour, or the Awesome with 40 rear armour are both excellent examples.

My actual note to my entry-level self a few years ago would be "Buy a gaming mouse from the get-go."

but but but what about butt tanking :P

for the lulz I rear loaded an atlas and put 12 pts on the front torsos and marched into battle backwards. Stupid, I know, but it was funny :)

I wish i had known that the XL-210 was a useful engine for the commando 2D (engine came stock in the raven 3L at the time)

I wish i knew modules were coming, as i spent 2 years buying mechs, now i have a good 2+ years to buy modules for um all..

I wish i didn't swap parts so much and more focused on getting complete mechs verse just getting more chasis's after i found some i really liked., it's mech warrior not parts manager! :P

I wish I had known that CW was going to be such a fail, then I wouldnt have created a Clan ans IS account.

My IS account has about 45 mechs in it that I just dont use as splitting my limited gaming time and hence XP and Cbill earnings just didnt make sense.

Now the account sits unused.

That pilot name was going to be your username. In my head it was going to be like the multiplayer of 4, where your username was different than your pilot name from Campaign. Would have gone with a lore pilot's name.
