The question wasn't whether I'd want liver to be available to others, it was whether I would want liver on the table so there'd be more food. I would not.

LOL @ the implication that being forcefed something you don't want is less onerous than being denied something you kind of want.

As for me being in the minority...450 people have voted. Are you saying that 450 people are the entirety of MWO's playerbase? Or course there's going to be a high number of people voting yes because this poll is going to attract people who have a vested interest in keeping Alpine. All the people that don't want it around have to do is wait.

I didn't say I 450 was the entire playerbase. Key word - Random. I'll file that into my folder of 'crap I already know'
The purpose of this thread was mostly to discuss reasons how Alpine could be fixed without wasting an asset and potentially fix it.
Seeing as though you've done nothing but troll this thread since page 2, with nothing constructive and 'I hate this map because reasons' and anyone who likes Alpine is a Bad... I'll take your comment with a grain of salt this time.

Funny, last time i played in alpine here was no mystical force moving my mech to candy mountain.

Don’t like Alpine, because:
1- Huge map but it’s 85% is completely unused
2- No cover long range fest

BUT 2 maps is better than 1. Old alpine can have it rebirth in CW or big update pass. But don’t forget about warm and extreme conditions maps. We don’t need only cold maps, because that’s boring and no heat management skill required.

Alpine is possibly my least favorite map in the game and only seems to be tolerable on Conquest.

Sorry, but Alpine needs to be retooled. I'm looking forward to a new Alpine.

Alpine is one of a VERY small number of maps in MWO where you can actually see enemies clearly without using heat vision. Please don't kill it.

To the inevitable whining from brawl lovers about how it favours snipers: 90% of maps in this game cater to you. Is it not OK for ONE map to actually favour long range builds? Just one?

Regarding Alpine, there are actually two sets of spawns on this map for Assault/Skirmish. I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed in this thread yet.

This is the first set. If you start here as red team, you will have a much, much easier time making it up the hill if you go full peg at it. By the time the mediums get there, there will still only be blue team lights up top. If the blue team has their assaults spawn at the bottom area, they will have a hard time of it.

This second set of spawns is the infamous "red team can't get up the hill". Generally you have no chance of getting close to the hill before the blue team heavies are up there. If it's skirmish, you can try to move South or North and pull them out. If it's Assault, then moving South takes a long time, and runs the risk of a blue team light lance making a dash for your base. North via the radio tower is the most common option at this point.

In summary:

- Minor advantage to red on the top set of spawns
- Large advantage to blue on the bottom set of spawns
- Best way to figure out which set of spawns occurred is to see if you had a lance spawn in C6 for Left side, or H5 for Right side
- Alpine actually has been adjusted in the past, the saddle at E6/D6 that leads onto the left side of the map was made steeper around the time that pebblewarrior was introduced (so 1.5-2 years ago)

There's no reason why Alpine can't have a minor tweak again, they've given it one in the past. To my mind, all it needs is to be locked to the top set of spawns, and some minor fiddling with the map geometry. People have talked about a "tunnel" in the past, but it doesn't require anything that drastic.

-edit, Actually someone mentioned earlier in the thread that back in CB there wasn't such a problem with H9 camping, part of this was probably that Right side lances would spill out over the Saddle area. Then the Saddle was raised to the point that nothing without jumpjets could get up it.

The hill should be changed but not a lot, and like others have said team work is a must, I been on teams where one worked with each other then the map is yours, if not then it is luck.

its the same with other aspects as well, be it assault mechs to protect or working together to capture bases to scouting(Which is what a fast light mech should also be used for) and so on

I still like Alpine. No matter which side you are on, if you try to take mechburger hill single file, you will lose. But there's plenty of other areas to fight from. I've won and lost matches in nearly every corner of the map. The only thing I do not like is ona Conquest map, the capture points are too close together.

I agree some things should change, most of what listed would work as the problem I have with the map is on Skirmish. On Conquest or Assault it is just a fun map to play. I would rather not see it go away.

Alpine is by far my favourite map. No cover? Only long range? OP hill? Of course but thats what makes it feel real. Almost every other map just feels like contructed-for-multiplayer stuff out of a game. Everywhere the same chances, same cover, same everything. They feel artificial.
Alpine doesn't. It has spots that are available just from one or two sides. You can actually put those Gauss Cannons and AC2s to good use. The new "Alpine" will be like any other map. there will be big stones lying around (just to supply cover, not following any geological reason), there will be ravines and canyons and lots of little crap to make the map what seems like a big airsoft-arena.
I say save Alpine! Maybe revise it a little to make the haters a little more content, but by all means leave it in the map rotation. It comes up very seldom as it is...

I was very bummed out to read that they're doing away with this map. I love Alpine. For a lot of reasons. Visually, it's appealing. I love the wide open expanses that make you choose to break cover or not. Since I often run Dires or King Crabs, I am sometimes left behind, and sometimes I end up having difficulty climbing the mountain, but I enjoy that part too. My only complaint is that our tactics have pretty much made taking that little plateau a requirement for victory. But some of the best matches in terms of fun have taken place on Alpine for me. Played an awesome waiting game in an unexpected place a while back, and I just enjoyed the heck out of that. With the dramatic changes to Forest Colony, my former favorite map (I was so looking forward to the changes, but I really don't like the new version), Alpine is my current fav. But she'll be gone too, alas. Fingers crossed for the new map to be cool... Hehe. Pun.

Edit: I think that with a few changes (to spawn points, perhaps) this could still be a good map. Hate to see our options for maps become more limited.

That is a contradiction, since it's also the visually most devoid of detail.

Conquest is the only game mode I enjoy playing this map on, simply because it's not all about just having the longest range weapons playing king of the hill.
