I was messing with builds of the Commando 'Mech and started thinking about the Community/Big Picture missions and wondered if Piranha was going to have Raids as a mission option. If they do, then in BattleTech only BattleMechs with hand actuators could grab stuff quickly in the raid. For example, something akin to the JagerMech can grab nothing (but can lay down covering fire) while a handed 'Mech could grab some stuff. Two hands are better than one but one is okay for small (comparatively speaking) loads. Holding anything precluded using that arm for weapon attacks and I think blocked torso weapons too.?

This is one example (discounting melee options) of why some BattleMech were designed with hands - especially many lighter designs commonly used in lightning raids on the enemy. In MWO, factoring something like this in the game will help offset the advantage gained by the removal of lower and hand actuators on some designs for extra critical locations. Just a thought since I do not know if Piranha has any targeting variances built into the game between 'Mechs having Full Arms or missing actuators. I know they have arm weapons track faster than torso weapons but with no rear firing, you cannot even flip your guns to the rear.

Just thought I would put my thoughts into electronic words here and see what the Community thinks...

I think this is an awsome idea (concept?), it would open up a new game dynamic, the smash and grab raid.
Get (X,) item back to your base in one piece and win the round.
This would make the idea of group roles even more diverse and fun

Sounds like a one-way Capture the Flag.

I remember the old Battleforce/Mechforce days on the Amiga, there were missions where you had to transport: the last can of Pepsi across the map. It was awesome, only Mechs with Hand actuators could carry the can and you always would drop it when your arm got blown off! fun times!

Essentially if we had a game type like this where the mech had to get across the map without losing the cargo this would be great. It would favour faster mechs and the Hand actuators would actually come in useful!

I like the idea of grabbing something and then having to take it back to your dropship......

Great idea, i like it. And it would make mechs with hands easier to explain to new players without having to refer to old novels and tabletop fluff.

I think it's also called "Steal the Bacon."

The extension of this idea would be for salvage during battle. I'm pretty sure it's not been implemented yet, but this can be done: If you manage to eliminate an enemy 'Mech and see pieces of it lying on the battlefield, then if your 'Mech has hand actuators, it can try to grab a piece and bring it home, in the process making your 'Mech unable to use the arm and corresponding torso weapons for the rest of the battle. This will of course result in a lot of salvage thieves appearing (much like killstealers now), but all salvagers take their own risks by essentially crippling themselves. To make sure that they still contribute, make it so that if their team loses the battle they automatically lose the salvaged item. Of course, if they lose the arm carrying the salvage they lose the item as well. To make it fairer for highly specialized handless 'Mechs, all salvage left on the field after the battle are sent to a pool and distributed hierarchically based on individual XP generated (which roughly corresponds to contribution in battle) to all non-salvagers. So higher XP-generators get first pick, followed by the next highest and so on. If you salvaged something on your own, you don't get to pick from the pool.

This, btw, can be used to keep the Clans nonplayable while allowing players to use Clantech. However, if you want your own Mad Cat, you have to assemble all the jigsaw pieces bit by bit.

I had completely forgot about that game... It was actually kind of fun.

I think it would be cooler if once you got to the objective you called in a helie career and then you had to escort it out, alternatively you could have one side escorting a supplely line and the other side setting up an ambush.

I fear we will have to wait quite some time for this to come :P
But the idea is great. Could also used to save gear of your own team from falling into enemies hands. Like a shiny piece of lostech, that will get back to the original owner if a teammate picked it up.
Or extra XP/credits for capturing eney mechwarirors that ejected durign the mech

Wow, that's a really cool idea. And here I thought no one had any practical ideas around the forums =D

Picking up broken mech parts and stuff would be silly tho. It would take away from unit cohesion to get yourself ahead a little, and that's the opposite of what the dev's obviously want.

But objective based stuff would be awesome!

Depends on the implementation, but yeah, the risk is there.

But it needs to be implemented if mellee is as well. Just for the fun of grabbing the blown of limb of a medium mech and use it as a club on his lancemates

By that same logic you'd be giving us capture the flag.

Ha! I hadn't thought of that. You are quite right, sir.
