Oh, the feeling of first time...

- First time I kissed my sweetheart;
- First time as a kid in Disney;
- First time I bumped into the Butcher in Diablo I...

That feeling? it's not coming back, buddy.
  • MW2? Great story, immersion and veneration for the lore - but shameful weapon balance;
  • MW3? Flawless mechlab implementation, weapon and mech stats exactly like the TT - but no attention to story or lore, unbalanced multiplayer;
  • MW4? Better multiplayer, rich story, Solaris - but completely changed weapon stats, had even less respect for the lore, mechlab for children, not a single canonical stock build, invented a lot of weapons and mechs.
Its easy to see the old MW titles through rose-tinted glasses, but all of them were flawed in the end.

MWO (even if flawed too) is the best implementation of Mechwarrior until now. We just need Solaris and Singleplayer.

Amen! Preach it brother!

Sorry KAY but I have to disagree I have played every MechWarrior and Battletech game ever made for PC MW1-MW4mercs and 3025 and about 40 other mech games made for PC-SNES-Xbox-Atari-ETC over 20+ years of playing mech games and I have played in every league ever made for MechWarrior including NBT and MWL planetary and have modded MechWarrior PC games.

And I stand by what I have said in my posts. Until MWO brings back that same feeling I got the first time I played PC MechWarrior in private league games- Kali-ten.net-merc.net-ETC right until the Close of the MSN gamming Zone personally I will never include MWO in the MechWarrior/BT genre of true BT/MechWarrior IP play.

MWO is closer to World of tanks-War thunder-and other FPS rinse and repeat games.
Believe it or not, I think I understand the basis of the feelings you have for those past games, but I have to agree with Odanan at this point... you're not going to get that feeling back until someone who actually loves the universe of BattleTech buys out this game and does it in accordance with the lore. MechWarrior IV was the absolute worst, it was COD with cartoon graphics, and I hated that game. Odanan has also expressed in his post immediately after yours the same things I would express, and I absolutely agree with him on every single point. I loved MechWarrior III, and thought it would be the last true implementation of BattleTech there could have been, especially after MechWarrior IV and MechAssault (gag) came out. They were amazingly horrible games.

Russ has said multiple times that PGI intends to release PvE stories, we know they're already working on Artificial Intelligence for the units in the game, as well as tanks, fighters, power armor, and infantry, but they will never be run by people, and we know that Russ still has a desire to see a 3025 game server put together for the game. These are things all of us are waiting for.

Now, if we really want to do so e-peen about experience, I started with the tabletop in November 1984, I started playing the computer games when I was introduced to Crescent Hawk's Inception and BattleTech (G. Braver) in college in 1995, and I started running my own mercenary unit online, with NetMech 95 and MercNet, in every league that was ever built and played thoroughly, in 1997. I have played everything but Alpha Strike, so please don't wave that around at me. You liked particular things in the games you played, and I liked particular things in the games I played and, like Odanan said, it's rose-colored glasses we're looking through. In truth, the only way to recapture many of the things we had in the past, is to replay those games. I have ALL of the map sets released for MechWarrior II: Mercs, MechWarrior III, and quite a lot of missions and maps for MechWarrior IV, as well as cheats, maps, and mission packs for the MechCommander series, and I would love to play them all, again, but it's nothing doing unless I put together an old-timey computer and go back and play, or PGI puts together those games anew in MWO.

There will come a day, of course, when MechWarrior Online, for all of its flaws, will be looked back on fondly, with rose-colored glasses, and people will be like, "Y'know, for an old game done in the way it was, it was pretty damn good." "Oh, yeah, remember when, for NetMech 95, MercNet, HEAT, MPlayer, and Solaris, you had to work for HOURS to get groups together to go play, especially when a league had a concentration on units?" "Oh, yes, Samwise Gamgee was the bravesest of Hobbits!"

Wait, how did THAT get in there.

Kahn, we have to look forward, buddy. This has all happened before, and it will happen again.

not sure if I want to sit through this 3 hour stroke fest. I got a refund for the IIc mechs, then bought them again when a PGI guy at the townhall in DEC. said that something would be done about the cheats. Then Bullock said that he was going to show the heads of the cheaters, so I bought the Kodiak pack, then last months townhall he back up and well yall heard what he said.
big pile of BS. twice this week I saw weapon fire coming out the side of a hill and through the corner of a building. But there are no cheaters, pull the other one damnit!!!!

Well, a lot of the guys at PGI do absolutely love the universe of BattleTech and want to do it in accordance to lore. They're just terrible at hitting their mark. You've heard Bryan Eckman's speech about community warfare and what he wanted to accomplish. The will and understanding was there... it's the project direction and lack of confidence (competence?) in design that's driven this game so far away from what it was originally supposed to be.

I partially agree with that.

Yes, the Cyclops doesn't have anything new to add.

Would it be weak? That depends on the quirks (and sure, it would need very good quirks).

Call me nuts, but for the next IS assault mech (after the Longbow in its Project Phoenix II, of course) I'm looking forward for the Charger. It has all kind of variants, from ultra-fast laser boats to slow, mixed weapons, heavy armed assault. And it can look good.

How about the Nightstar?
Yes, it is available in timeline. http://www.masteruni...Id=18&EraId=256

I'd love to see all members of the Marauder family in the game (Night Star being one of them). There are also some very nice IIC mechs to be done, especially Locust, Griffin, Marauder and Warhammer.

However, this game technically doesn't need more mechs atm. I unterstand that selling mechs and packs are essential for PGI to keep their business running, but other than that we can already do nearly every combination of weapons with the existing chassis.

Speaking of keeping the business running and the cash coming, what about more microtransactions? For example, I'd love to be able to gift, say, single or up to three days of PT, single mech bays and so on. And.don't make me talk about what this would mean for all the tournament organizers out there...

CW / FW phase 3 should be right around the corner and definitely should be talked about in the townhall. A lot of units are extremely eager to finally bring a lot of meaning into CW besides grinding ranks.

Other issues like the imbalance of quirks on similar mechs (looking at you, Blackjacks & Vindicators!), additional improvements to the mech lab and gaming experience should be adressed as well.

What about the 10 HS rule & small mechs / engines? It's 2016 already and mounting a sufficient amount (or even the minimum of 10) of (D)HS on mechs with an engine cap lower than 250 or even 200 can be very tricky or even impossible. Why, for example, don't you simply allow one HS slot for all engines below the magical 250 rating?

Question to PGI:
Can you give us back old Forest Colony map? The new map is big but its very bad map.
On old map you can fight in different places. In new there is only one place to fight.
New forest colony is a crap.
Can you give us old one?

Question to PGI / Russ

Cockpit items - Any chance of an option being applied that allows the user to move a cockpit item from another mech, without having to first load that mech to drag the process out.
In the list we are advised it is "in use on another Mech"and would take less time to be able to just switch while in the mech you wish to pilot.

Any update on Decals? and will we be able to upload to you what we want for out units like its done in EVE or other mmos, which then show in game at next patch etc.

If we get another mech pack - please make it a Clan pack. Theres little choice on the clan side across the weight classes unlike IS and would be fantastic to have that alternative to the current clan trend of SCR TMB ACH/LCT IIC - not going to say which mechs (we all have our favourites) but a list could be provided and we could vote on a poll to give players more of what they want.

Town Hall - keep it short.
1. It's a glorified commercial.
2. Russ is always drunk.
3. There is close to 0 community involvement (because it's a glorified commercial).
4. You'd save a f-load of time and money by replacing it with a text update.

Just fire it up, announce your new mechpack and plug the tourney then skip over all the unintelligible talking from Russ about a game he never plays and really doesn't understand much about and end the commercial after about 30-40 seconds.

I agree the Clanners need more variation. It would also be nice to see options in the 20 and 40 tons bracket. (Firemoth and Viper!)

After Russ asked us in the Twitter which mechs we would want in a Clan Omni pack, there was a poll for that.

And you meant JR7-IIC, not LCT-IIC. ;)

I would like to point out to Russ that without the Hatchetman, the IS cannot win against the Clans. It's imperative that we have this mech so that Kai Allard Liao can win at Twycross. HOW CAN HE WIN WITHOUT A HATCHETMAN?

/unfriends
