Sorry KAY but I have to disagree I have played every MechWarrior and Battletech game ever made for PC MW1-MW4mercs and 3025 and about 40 other mech games made for PC-SNES-Xbox-Atari-ETC over 20+ years of playing mech games and I have played in every league ever made for MechWarrior including NBT and MWL planetary and have modded MechWarrior PC games.
And I stand by what I have said in my posts. Until MWO brings back that same feeling I got the first time I played PC MechWarrior in private league games- Kali-ten.net-merc.net-ETC right until the Close of the MSN gamming Zone personally I will never include MWO in the MechWarrior/BT genre of true BT/MechWarrior IP play.
MWO is closer to World of tanks-War thunder-and other FPS rinse and repeat games.
Believe it or not, I think I understand the basis of the feelings you have for those past games, but I have to agree with Odanan at this point... you're not going to get that feeling back until someone who actually loves the universe of BattleTech buys out this game and does it in accordance with the lore. MechWarrior IV was the absolute worst, it was COD with cartoon graphics, and I hated that game. Odanan has also expressed in his post immediately after yours the same things I would express, and I absolutely agree with him on every single point. I loved MechWarrior III, and thought it would be the last true implementation of BattleTech there could have been, especially after MechWarrior IV and MechAssault (gag) came out. They were amazingly horrible games.
Russ has said multiple times that PGI intends to release PvE stories, we know they're already working on Artificial Intelligence for the units in the game, as well as tanks, fighters, power armor, and infantry, but they will never be run by people, and we know that Russ still has a desire to see a 3025 game server put together for the game. These are things all of us are waiting for.
Now, if we really want to do so e-peen about experience, I started with the tabletop in November 1984, I started playing the computer games when I was introduced to Crescent Hawk's Inception and BattleTech (G. Braver) in college in 1995, and I started running my own mercenary unit online, with NetMech 95 and MercNet, in every league that was ever built and played thoroughly, in 1997. I have played everything but Alpha Strike, so please don't wave that around at me. You liked particular things in the games you played, and I liked particular things in the games I played and, like Odanan said, it's rose-colored glasses we're looking through. In truth, the only way to recapture many of the things we had in the past, is to replay those games. I have ALL of the map sets released for MechWarrior II: Mercs, MechWarrior III, and quite a lot of missions and maps for MechWarrior IV, as well as cheats, maps, and mission packs for the MechCommander series, and I would love to play them all, again, but it's nothing doing unless I put together an old-timey computer and go back and play, or PGI puts together those games anew in MWO.

MWO (even if flawed too) is the best implementation of Mechwarrior until now. We just need Solaris and Singleplayer.
There will come a day, of course, when MechWarrior Online, for all of its flaws, will be looked back on fondly, with rose-colored glasses, and people will be like, "Y'know, for an old game done in the way it was, it was pretty damn good." "Oh, yeah, remember when, for NetMech 95, MercNet, HEAT, MPlayer, and Solaris, you had to work for HOURS to get groups together to go play, especially when a league had a concentration on units?" "Oh, yes, Samwise Gamgee was the bravesest of Hobbits!"
Wait, how did THAT get in there.
Kahn, we have to look forward, buddy. This has all happened before, and it will happen again.
