is there a plan to enable this? just like in tanks when you change your direction your aim will stay and not turn with your torso.

has this feature been implemented before? if not was there any talks/request to add this?

right now if you change your direction you need to counter it to stay where you are pointing before and it would greatly help those you are in close range brawling.

Just keep your mouse on target while moving, mate. Also, unlike tanks, very few select mechs have 360 degree torso twist so one has to deal with that.

I do think that BattleMechs should be capable of doing this and I can't think of any reason why PGI didn't put that feature. There have been some discussions about this matter in the past but I forgot what the general consensus was (if there's any).

Currently when you move your legs.... it's drags your torso along with it..... even if you're centered.

In order to keep your arms pointing any direction, you have to "counter steer" the mechs toros every time you move your legs in the slightest.

I think he's suggesting that legs actually move completely seperately... until the torso turn limit is reached.

I kinda like the current system. More intuitive to me. I get more of a feel as to where my legs are pointing. Plus you can also turn your legs to twist faster which is really useful.

this would drastically change the game if it happened, but it would make gameplay a lot smoother I think
most people play on kb/m, and its nearly impossible to keep consistent aim on something while turning your legs because of how jerky it is and that it drags your torso along with it

people would probably be a lot more accurate if this was enabled which would make things like lasers even more powerful, but at the same time it gives you a lot more control over your mech

I think this game would be dumber if they made the torso not move when you turned.

I think this option is needed for VR.
As others have mentioned. It's way to jerky if you want to steer your legs but maintain your aim on a target.

I guess some could say that's a "skill" thing that you learn to over come, and being aim to steer around with an unwavering reticle is a bit much I think.

But from a purely VR aspect, it would really help. Any sort of continuous side shake like the jerkiness from continuous corrective aiming feels really weird when:
- Your eyes are looking a target
- Your reticle is aiming at the target
- You move your legs and your reticle moves off target, but your eyes keep looking at the target.
- Stopping leg movement doesn't put the reticle back on the target, and you must re-align your torso, or move your legs back to where they were. . . and this is where the leg/torso disconnect gets confusing for some people.

In VR, with the whole immersion thing, it can become a little much. Especially when you consider what your head movement controls in VR (just the pilot's view with no other action bound to it, turns torso as you turn your head, or controls the aim of your arms...).

So... an unlocked torso from the legs could be helpful. It may or may not be needed. Regardless of those, if included, it will be a very big change in gameplay.

wat

I find it's dumber that a BattleMech can't keep its torso stay still while its lower half is turning.

I have no problems maintaining aim while twisting my lower torso, it just takes practice to counter move your mouse in the opposite direction from leg twist. My mouse is 900 dpi with a 0.17 setting in game.

The game would be dumber if battlemechs had the basic technology that tanks have been using since the 60's? I'm inclined to disagree.

If people want manual controls and WW2-era technology, we may as well go back to controling the crosshairs with our keyboards.

I know Battletech is supposed to be kind of retro, but these battlemechs are supposed to be super advanced, almost semi-intelligent in their ability to obey the commands of the pilot. It seems dumb that we have to manually compensate the torso twist to adjust for how we're moving the legs.

I find it hilarious players have a problem with the torso not staying in place. This game is already ridiculously easy. Why does it need to be even easier?!

I don't find it ridiculous at all because you must do this every single other Mechwarrior game. Unless you plan on calling the Doctor and going back in a Tardis and change the past (which could be bad... lots of unforeseen things could happen), then this is all silly. There's no reason the game should be made easier.

...

Because it's not cool that my 'Mechs are more backward technologically than tanks in the 60's (said the ex tank crew member Tristan Winter above).

These aren't tanks! They are giant walking battle robits from the imaginary year 3050 in some distant future written about in novels by folks who imagined them in their heads!

From a gameplay perspective it needs to stay as it is. Dumbing it down even further would be a detriment, not a benefit.

While I can understand the argument about an advanced piece of technology such as a Battlemech having such a feature, this about sums up my feelings on the matter:

Every mech has Gyro that takes 4 critical slot in CT and offers no benefits (no horizontal stabilization). So why not throw it away? Some Standard engine IS mechs could become super zombies, packing dual Large Pulse Lasers in center torso.

They have that...

Its called a Hack/Cheat program.

This is a video game... Stuff like that is not welcome here...

Edit: Did not mean to sound like a troll.... The OP had a decent question and I had a decent answer.

no. he does mean that while turning the legs, the aim stays where it is.

BUT i would like an option to turn actuators off on IS mechs, like i do on some clan mechs to have only horizontal lock. with arms lock engaged on is mechs, the aiming isnt as natural as in clan mechs.
