Yep. Basically, I haven't bought any assaults because of the limitations of the clan assaults compared to my timbie. I wasn't something that did something different. :l

So if the situation was reversed with the Kodiak being the first Clan 100 tonner and Dire Wolf being the new released, would there still be cries of 'DOA', etc?
Or is this all an intentional strategy by PGI, because they fear that releasing all the 'best' mechs prior to the 'worst' would mean that no one would ever buy anything new again?
Not saying anyone is right or wrong here, it's just a curious thought I had...

The difference between those two images is day and night.... in terms of proportions i mean, individual parts may be similar, yet the proportions of each part with respect to the rest of the mech is what makes or breaks the final model.
It is even enough for Russ, to say:

I think I understand now. Seems reasonable considering the height of it's CT. Sure it's width is fine, but now that I look at it, it's height is longer than the concept now.

Except the KDK-3 is the only one with 4 Ballistic slots and 4 energy. Imo I forsee either Er mediums or Small pulse in those 4 slots.

Does the Mauler obsolete the Dire ....?
No ! Its logicaly impossible. Since the Mauler is an IS Mech and not Clan.
Makes the Mauler the Atlas or the Kingcrab obsolete ?
No again. Atlas is a brawly tanky diveres Weapons Mech and Mauler a squishy AC/ LURM boat.
They got completely different roles.
The Kingcrab may be used for AC 5 carrying by some ppl but...well there are always ppl that cant be helped.
So does the Kodiak make the Direwolf obsolete ?
Well...we will see. The Dire is feared for his multi AC builds and his Gauss and PPC builds.
If you put quad UAC10 on Kodiak you use 40 tonns and you'll need to use a standart reactor.
300 will take up an other 25 tonns. Now you need at least 8 tonns of ammo and some heatsinks and then you still got no gramm of armor....that sounds a bit .... problematic not to say squishy.
I do not think this will be a viable build.
What we will see a lot are quad UAC5 + LPLs builds.
Maybe an accumulation of smal weapons like quad Uac2 with medlaser and 400XL engine.
But ultimately he cant do better things than the Dire AND he has a humanoid and quite broad shape so...the good old whale will be more tanky than the Bear.

Just wanted to chime in to inform you that you can do the quad UAC10 build with an XL engine.

Yup. Don't forget kids, this is all Clam-Tech we're talking about. Only 2 slots per ST for the Clam XL engines, and the UAC/10's are smaller than the Pearl AC/10's as well, only taking up 4 slots each. You'd actually have 2 slots leftover in each ST. Clams vs. Pearls = Pearls big and heavy / Clams small and light.

This first one is a tabletop mech builder that allows you to build custom mechs (or view stock ones) according to the TT rules. It is an essential tool for "theory crafting" builds for mechs that aren't out yet.

The second one is made for mechs that are in game already, and I think it is superior to smurffy. Give it a shot. (Download ver 1.7.2 for now while Emily updates to ver2.0. The previews are a bit buggy)

Whether the kodiak will be power creep or not will very much depend on if it completely obsoletes/eclipses the other assault mechs. With the ability to change engine size, no fixed components, and a good selection of hard points... I have trouble seeing how the kodiak won't simply replace the executioner and direwolf.

You are right, but also wrong. The issue in my eyes isn't the kodiak, its the direwolf, and other omnimechs, all of which operate under a set of build rules that present very little value to MWO, and screws over well over half of clan omnimechs. All hardpoint swapping does is make sure the good omnimechs are better, but the bad omnimechs are always going to be bad because hardpoints cant fix their bad engine sizes, low podspace or fixed equipment issues.

Yes but you can not play lego mech with the Kodiak, IMO it will be a great addition to the Clans, it should give us an Atlas like mech for up close, the Direwolf will be better IMO at range, it is still a slightly smaller target. BOTH are not something you want to walk around and meet though in a dark alley way, or really any place O.o
Also YAS all the Freebirth tears! I shall use them for coolant for my Kodiak's massive not crappy XL400
