How can you say that^^ looks like this:

The bloody elbows are resting on its bloody hips. What happened between the orthos and the model PGI? Come on.

Pretty sure its cause the freaking gauss rifle is slapped on the inside of the arms. Remove that then it'll look about right.

Some of that is a result from the upward perspective, but ya I can see a little disparity in the leg to torso from the orthos, but not so much from Alex's concept. Same as the head tho IMO, it looks bigger because the camera is closer to the upper than the center mass. This reminds me of the recent thread on the Kodiak.

PGI using fish-eye'd FOV's to throw off the forum-warriors?!?! INCONCEIVABLE!!!

I hope it's a combo of the angle and having every possible hard point packed with weapons in the arms, and if that's the case I'll be OK with it.

On the plus side that ST E mount is in a really good spot, so there's that.

Every time PGI releases images like this, people immediately identify problems with the design, and apologists rush to the scene to say it's all a matter of perspective. "Oh, I'm sure the Enforcer's head will look smaller from a different angle." "Oh, you can't tell how long the Shadow Cat cockpit is from that angle, bro." "Oh, the mech will be much smaller in-game. It just looks big because we're seeing it from underneath."

But humans aren't really that terrible at understanding proportions from different angles. The head is big, the hips are wide. From these angles, from all angles.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are forgetting that the FOV in that test is not comparable to MWO and so EVERYTHING looks slightly off due to that. I don't have a pic to show, but when Jonty showed other (existing) mechs close up, they had very weird-looking proportional problems, just like this. Also, bear in mind that the arms are double-wide, due to having every "possible" weapon slot filled.

This is in a test environment that Jonty specifically said made mechs look noticeably different (as far as proportions go) than they do ingame. Previews ingame are more representative of the actual product than these.

I'd also be disappointed if they ditched that aspect. Not disappointed enough for a refund, but it would make me a bit sad inside.

I'll admit, they did blow up the head size a bit over-much. It seems lower and a bit smaller in the concept / orthos which helped it look a bit more intimidating.

Sizewise it looks fine to me. I don't know if it's the warping from the screenshot -> picture of screen weirdness but it looks like they widened and shortened the torso compared to the orthos, which might lead to the "stockiness" of the mech.

I was kinda hoping it would be a zippier Shadowhawk in build (tall and thin, but a bit smaller). Right now it looks like a smaller Griffin which is fine, but I would expect a 45 tonner running 120kph+ to be more nimble looking.

If they thinned the torso and made it a bit taller, then scaled the mech down 5% or so it would preserve the proportions of the ortho without making it too big.

Apologist? just sayin.. from the first pic in OP the hips are a little wide not like"holy jeebus super wide!" as most are making it to be cause of the weird addon weapon pods that they make hang off the inside of the arms. The head i can agree its a tad too big and maybe a slight height reduction.

I'm not too worried about people shooting the JJ intakes unless it's standing still. They look pretty thin so the only issue there is learning what you can and can't hide behind. I really like the ST laser mount (so good). I'll probaly be replacing my 3xLL Enforcer with this.

Apologist isn't necessarily a negative, although I suppose I did make it sound like a negative. Anyway, I agree that the hips are not crazy wide relative to their length. It's not as bad as the Commando, which looks like it could give birth to triplets without even being sore the next day.

Agreed on many counts. Elbows appear a bit low, hips seem a bit wide, and the ortho's suggest some upward taper on the legs, where these appear straight. The legomech weapons mount is hiding the humanoid hands, but right now it has popeye forearms. Bleech.

I think the torso proportions might be a little off, the only way to get the elbows so they ain't sat right by the hit is for the torso to be thinner and taller but then that would make the mech even taller overall which is the main issue.

But but but guys, it's totally scaled correctly now! It's completely flawless and objectively perfect, this system is! Right? Riiiiiiiight?

No, volume is probably the reason why it's that size in the first place.

Yeah, Russ was tweeting a while back about how volume is more important than profile because lurms etc. He did not clarify what the et cetera is.

So they must be imagining our shots are going to go whiffing through the holes in the profile or something.

I'd just like the head to be a skosh narrower; it looks kind of wide even compared to the ortho. The Phoenix Hawk shouldn't look like this:

Shame?

Yes, how dare I bring to people's attention information about a product, on which they (myself included) have spent real world money.

What's left to cook? Are you saying that the presented model isn't how the Phoenix Hawk will appear in the game?
