HBR does really need something at the moment...it is just too squishy and the only build that really made it relevant is pretty much on life support...sadly...
Yeah, I take it out once in a while and I still like it, but it has definitely lost its edge.

Tell that to others. I posted a thread about how I want a Hero Hellbringer, and folks are yelling at me for wanting OP easy-mode C-Bill printing machine. They say the Hellbringer is a cash machine as is, and I suck for wanting one that makes more C-Bills because I apparently cannot make money with it as-is.
It is one of my best money-makers, but it looks like people are split between the Hellbringer is GodMode and Hellbringer is Alright.

Maybe thats because the IS has double the amount of mechs in general?
I mean more mechs in general would push those odds up would it not?

The Hellby still gets work done and is still the best ECM mech in the game being rivaled only by the Cheeto.
The Hellby has five really solid loadouts:
-6cMPL
-1cLPL, 5cERML
-2cLPL, 3cERML
-goose waffle, 4cERML
-4cERLL
Of the mechs the IS has that are relevant that have ECM we're down to the GRF-2N and the DDC. And both of those are deprecated by the 3M and the AS7-S. Sure the RVN-3L is decent, but totally outdone by the 4X. The Phracts haven't been relevant since pre-Clans. The 3M Cicada is another that's playable, but again sidelined for the 2B.
The thing about IS mechs is that quirks > ECM.

No argument here.
The only ECM mech that finds its way into our drop decks for comp play is the Cheetah though, occasionally some one will think they are smart and sub in a GRF-2N instead of a 3M... Some one needs to CONcede to REGulate things like that on our end.

There are lots of other builds that work well on the HBR... dropping a UAC/10 in place of the gauss is vastly more common these days, and an easy way to up your damage output by 200+ damage per run over the gauss.
It's easily the best ECM mech in the game.
I take these guys out to Pug whenever I feel like an easy 1000-damage game.

Honestly, the HBR was never really a god among mechs at all...
Realistically, it was always pretty solid but paled in comparison to the other heavies aside from the saddog. ECM and the high mounts kept it relevant, but without the strength of the Gauss/ERML build to carry it, and the nerfs to medium and small class lasers...you just really cannot get nearly as much out of it anymore.
It needed the extra range to survive, honestly....

Those are just the ones I've personally used that perform really well for me. I know some guys in QQ run a UAC10 or a pair of UAC5s over the gauss and swear by it. I'll need to give it a try.
Another fun one I had was 7cSPLs and 2cSRM6+Artemis, was fun ninja butt coring people with it.

Not really no...
The Gauss, 4-5 cERML build is the way to go. A single UAC10 is a little lackluster, and lacks range and precision.

No, it was the best mech in the game pretty much when the Timber got its slight nerfs. High hardpoints, Gauss-ERML builds were awesome, ECM, good hitboxes, good mobility, it had everything.
Even before the Timber got its nerfs some people were picking Hellbringers over Timbers.

Uh, it was the ******* Pope of the Holy Trinity. And it puts up better numbers than my Timbers by a significant margin for CW. It's my preferred CW clan heavy. I only take a TBR-Prime(I) over another Hellbringer because that (I) means more money.

You think it was better than the EBJ outright huh?
I will concede it was always a very good peeking mech...and one of the best at trading...but I never really felt it was the best mech in the game...

They were the go-to comp Clan heavy.

Yeah.
I had my doubts, I was swearing by Timber Wolves, but once I started running the Hellbringer a bit more, I converted real quick.
The Ebon was good, but seems to be squishier due to it its hitboxes, and its high weapons make the make larger and easier to hit.

The Atlas may be, but the Griffins are about equal imo. The ability to run 4 ASRM6 and an XL is still a powerful facet of the 2N.

Best hardpoint placement for any clan heavy by far. You have a tiny amount of exposure compared to poking with a TBR/EBJ.

Proof-positive that you have to look at all the numbers to see how a mech will perform.
I'd always disagree about the gauss vs UAC/10 debate in favor of the gauss. For most players, you'll get more utility out of the UAC/10. Gauss is good for comp play, or in mechs begging to be built around them (Direwolf)... but you'll see a marked increase in your output with a UAC/10 in your torso instead. Awesome synergy with MLs too.

203 IS mechs:
40 lights
60 mediums
52 heavies
51 assaults
Four lights can equip ECM, one behind a paywall.
Two mediums can equip ECM.
Two heavies can equip ECM, one behind paywall.
One assault can equip ECM.
9 / 203 == 4.43% ECM saturation
92 Clan mechs:
21 lights
24 mediums
24 heavies
23 assaults
Three clan lights come with ECM, up to thirteen can equip it.
One clan medium comes with ECM, up to four can equip it.
One clan heavy comes with ECM, up to three can equip it.
No clan assaults can equip ECM.
20 / 92 == 21.74% ECM saturation
