Koniving sir, you have a way with words/videos. I do like using acs and have been using an lbx 10 and ac5 combo on one of my Atlases. ( I refuse to type the "proper" pluralization of Atlas. :P ) I have been rocked by other players with a similar loadout to the Jager in that vid. I fought a Jaegermech like that and wanted one. Now that I watched that vid, I really want one.

It realize that I have overlooked the Quickdraw, Dragon and Thunderbolt for 60 - 65 ton heavies. It would not be fair to jump on the Jager without looking at all of them.

I used the Dragon and Thunderbolt in the training grounds. The Dragon felt like I was driving a walking Mack truck with the bulldog hood ornament stolen off of its gut. I do like the mobility of it, but I have no real battle experience with it. I am neutral with the Thunderbolt and have no experience at all with the Quickdraw.

The Jager DD is an outstanding mech. The only IS heavy that is remotely as effective with ACs is the Warhammer Black Widow. If you want more daka then you need to step up to a Mauler.

There are some good quickdraw and thunderbolt rigs out there. They are arguably a little long in the tooth compared to the contemporary meta mechs, but they are still very good and totally viable. The better versions tend to be laser boats.
The Dragon should probably be avoided completely. It is the weakest IS heavy by far (though Im sure there are many nostalgic vets that will take issue with this idea)

Another battle tech comparison, Dragon and Thunderbolt's are incredible because as heavies their armor outclasses dozens of larger heavies and even is on par with some 85 ton mechs like Stalkers.

In MWO.... dragon and QuickDraw are 60 tonners and among the weakest of heavy mechs, virtually requiring XL engines to stand a chance. The Dragon trial is actually a very slow and immobile dragon, going at a speed I'm comfortable with but the Dragon enthusiasts will often bring that thing in the high 90s to 100 kph. Since it was built before quirks it also makes poor use of them. My dragon vids often use the same dragon and you will see I find them lots of fun. Need to make more recent ones since that firing pattern is no longer punished. Dragons benefit the most from a "light mentality" augmented with strong arm use. As such it can be considered an advanced skill mech as it makes strong use out of arm use with incredible arm range and horizontal view. The majority of its weaponry being arm based helps in this regard because between arm range and torso twist range it has a reach only competed with by the Hunchback and only surpassed by the Urbanmech 360 degree spin terms of horizontal reach without turning. The belly -- which exists because this mech is canonically very armored and actually quite squat in stature (small) -- is a bit of a damage magnet. Front load the armor and let no one sneak around behind.

Thunderbolt works well with XL engines but I find they work best or rather tank best with STD engines. Like dragons and quickdraws the thunderbolt benefits well from use of arm weaponry, however unlike the others there is a good chunk of energy weapons on the torsos and so it can work either way.

Quickdraws, famous for easily destroyed legs (issue with leg size) also has good arm range but not good visibility. Unlike a the ballistics of a dragon, missiles are very light and leave plenty of room for all you need. Not a ballistic mech though so no AC fun unless you use the hero. Btw look up meany mcmeanypants. It's me in the hero with twin AC/10s. These make good anti-light platforms with streaks and pulses, good general antimech platforms with lasers and srms and great LRM skirmishers (pepper enemies with lrms while running fast and far to harass enemies and when they are weak close in with lasers.)


Oh don't forget, rifleman just released for cbills. Rifleman is the predecessor to the Jagermech.

I watched Meany Mcmeany-pants and have two words for it, DAY YUM! That is a dream match lol.

I was in a match yesterday on Tourmaline where I was spectating our last 'mate standing. He was in the Legend Killer and that thing was an absolute BEAST in his hands. He was outnumbered 2 to 1, but when he finally went down the other team typed, "Oh thank god!" If the guy had not run out of lbx 10 ammo, I believe he could have pulled it off. Now I am torn between the Rifleman and the Jagermech but I have plenty of work until the time comes to buy either.

The advice given to me on how to play the Blackjack has paid off. I have been playing a skirmisher/support role with it and now have a positive kdr with the 1X and broke even with the Arrow. I was finally able to close out a match being the last mech on our team. Alpha strike with 6 mls and 2 mpls on my 1X was too much. I have failed at least four times before that with various mechs. Thanks again for the tips!

Jager beats the rifleman for AC builds.
The Rifleman does have the 5D model which is a superior laser boat (to any Jager anyways)

I am finding that I like a good mix. On the BJ-1 I had to cut back to one uac5 and 4 mls until I am able to get an XL engine for it. I ran out of ammo in two matches lol. Which engine should I get, the XL225?

While true, I'm a bit worried about the issues forthcoming with a quirk repass. Are they going to restore the original purpose of quirks -- to enhance the abilities of the few hardpoints? (i.e. if you have 8 energy and 1 missile, the quirks are supposed to give you a good reason to want to use that missile.)
Or are they going to continue the destructive quirk behavior they have been where they quirk what the mech has more of? (The current system of quirks for a mech with 1 missile, 2 ballistic and 7 energy does the following: Quirk the energy, maybe give the ballistic a quirk or two. End result, player runs exclusively energy because of superb energy quirks.)

This is what I'm worried about.
Also: Whether or not all mechs would still need such substantial quirks after the rescale.

Oh and whether or not they decided to "enhance" the size of the Blackjack.

No clue... But one thing i do know is they have used many different quirk passes, and have lots more data about movement, weapons, armor, structure ect...

While i agree that quirks should make mechs work with their hard points and make them feel unique, so far they have at least taken mechs that really were not all that good and made them viable, so in that since they have been successful.

But with the re-size, and re-pass on quirks, and the direction of balance/polish they have said they are taking for the next bunch of months, i think now is the time the community and devs can perhaps come together and get the game going to the next step. They added a bunch of level designers, and have been asking about what people want from map updates.. I see this as a prime time to actually get behind um instead of just complaining about how they never listen.. (none of this is directed at you, just in general really)


Well those are my hopes anyway.. Get quirks to make certain mechs more tanky, others better movers, others better energy, others better missile.. others just unique and work in some way.. know what i mean?

I would not mind if they gave the Battlemaster more of a bubble cockpit like the Hellbringer and canon.

I hope they do not hurt my Blackjacks. I almost have them elited.

It will be interesting for sure to see all the changes. I like the rescaling they have shown and think its for the best but I'm worried as I'm just getting into this game that they will change something I like about it.

There is a reason that they can't. Old art is copyrighted and contested by a company that sold licenses for the art...but didn't own the right to those licenses either...

I would not worry about your blackjacks, THey are getting a little size increase to get them in line with the other mechs, but seeing how small some of the larger mechs have gotton, i can't see a 45 tonner being huge.. perhaps it is only a few % gain..

I hope they do not not make their hitboxes too large a target. They get crushed pretty easily if the pilot puts them in a bad position. Not I have any reason to know that or anything. O_o

Bought the XL225 and I am running 3 LPLs on The Arrow. It hits pretty hard.

Normally it wil be after 6:00 CST. The past couple of weeks I have been playing more since my family has been out of state helping my wife's dad while I took care of our business/work at home. I am a reeeeal party animal lol. I will be back on Monday evening when I get back from picking them up.

If you do see me online, I would be happy to get in a group with you. I do not want someone else to feel like they have to group with me, so I wait for someone to invite me. If they do not, I am good with that too. I never know if they are deployed with other MWO friends and I would hate to impose on anyone.

Sounds good. If we get a chance to drop together, and if you record it, you officially have my permission to use any mistakes I make as an example for other new pilots. I will, of course, be trying to avoid making them. ;)

If my mistakes will help others learn something and help rookies avoid making them . . . GREAT!
