I have an SCR-Prime and SCR-C, I dont have enough money to change them, so they are stock.
Get more money. Really you shouldn't run stock loadouts often, even the trial mechs are somewhat optimized.
The Trial Arctic Cheetah can be used decently, just keep moving, don't stand infront of enemies, try to focus your damage into the enemy's center torso, preferably the rear. Also you can use jump jets to help jump on things to dodge people when up close, but don't stand on high objects when far away or you just make yourself a target. Also be sure to move in zig zags to dodge enemy fire.
For Mediums they have a Trebuchet as an LRM boat if you want to try out LRMs, though it isn't good at direct fire. The Shadow Cat is good for hitting people at mid-long range with its 2 large pulse lasers, but you have to move around a lot, reposition, jump on things, and try and keep sniping. There is also a mediocre Stormcrow build running 5 medium pulse lasers. It can do decently but isn't the best loadout out there.
With the heavies the Ebon Jaguar and Timber Wolf are the best two that are available as trial mechs. They are setup for ranged direct fire but have more damage than the Shadow Cat, but also move slower, but at least they have more armor and heatsinks too.
For trial assaults the Battlemaster and Warhawk are what I recommend. Awesome is kinda weak and an easy target and Dire Wolf moves so slow your teams will leave you behind. The Battlemaster has high hardpoints and works well at about 300m, though it can still hit people at full damage at 400 meters if it uses the large pulse lasers. The Warhawk has lower hardpoints but a longer range of 400-700m (don't fire the medium lasers on it out past 500m though).
At the lower tiers that you are in LRMs tend to be very effective. I'd recommend trying out the Trebuchet, stick with big ally mechs as they will be a scarier target than you so enemies won't shoot you as much and if they do you have a strong buddy. You'll be faster than any Assault mechs in a Trebuchet so there shouldn't be any issues keeping up. Make sure to lock on to enemies and don't fire at anyone who is over 1000m away. Cycle through your targets and hit bigger mechs, like the Kodiak first, especially close by ones. Make sure to look at your crosshairs as you fire and make sure that after you fire and you watch the LRMs move to the target see if your crosshairs turn red, this means you hit and should keep firing. If they didn't turn red then swap to another target because that one is behind hard cover or is a good dodger.
