I think it has less to do with mech packs and more that the Tourney is killing their player base via burnout, i know i only play a night or two a week anymore because im required to be there for 4+ hours trying to get as many tourney drops in as we can. We also aren't even on the main client, we are in the Toruney one so we wont even have a chance to see each other in QP because i cant play QP Drops while we wait or anything. But that might also be why you see the activity drop. most of us spend the time we have in another client not linked to the STEAM CHARTS.

Round Robin goes out the table once you get over 30 teams in most Tournaments i have ever played, be it Video Games or Sports, paintball, etc. The time involved just getting the Prelim's finished is staggering.

This is why brackets exist, lessens the load, weeds out the non committed just the same and is less taxing on everyone. Even your staff for said Tournament.

Remember, this is a hard game. Especially compared to simple games on steam like Dota or TF2. Those games are very straight forward and are easy to play. Yes DoTa takes a while to Master but picking it up and playing is easy.

I like this overview, I had no idea this existed. Honestly I have just been enjoying other games waiting for the rescale. Only have so much gaming time so it seemed like a decent time for a break. Also super nice summery weekends means not sitting at the PC mech'in.

however just another game http://steamcharts.com/app/365590#All So soem so called AAA titles can f it up a lot more esepcially when yiou hype somthing. have bad gameplay and let cheaters roam around freely.

PLAYERBASE SINKING

This surprises anyone why? Like my friend always says " How many times do you have to get hit in the head before you realize who's hitting you"
I think a majority of people have finally figured it out, hence the drop in population. You can include me in those dropping population numbers as well and I been around since closed beta.

There is no real reason to play a Minimally Viable ProductTM.

I think the really sad truth is this game has a steep learning curve.
And most human's lack the simple intelligence or the patience for it.
I like it because I'm edumacated hahaha.

the problem is pgi needs to stop acting like modders and start acting like game developers. i understand that mech packs keep the servers going. but pgi is becoming a one trick pony. they need to develop other areas of the game. not just maps and modes. they need to add new ways to play. new weapons to spice things up. you cant just bring one microfeature for every 3 mechpacks you put out there. people are getting bored. if money is an issue me and many other players have produced long lists of ideas for how pgi can make new money that are better than supply crates.

I think steam is irrelevant.

The current drop in player numbers that I am seeing (and which I am only noticing in CW...QP I am getting near instant matches regardless of weight class) is due I think to a perfect storm of several factors:

Summertime, tournament, and event burn out, certainly all play a role. I think also that P3 is driving lots of folks away (be it the long tom effect, some folks going scouting and skipping invasion, some units just deciding: "screw it I don't want to play a game where I am punished for wanting folks to join my unit", or "screw it what is the point of being a loyalist"). Some percentage of those folks who left CW only played CW.

The first three factors should be expected occasionally and there is nothing to be done about them. The last factor though...maybe something can be done, but PGI doesn't seem to be worried so everything must be fine.

(insert "nothing to see here") meme.

I would play more but I am employed full time and a full time engineering major at the university. I get a couple hours a week to smash robits if I'm lucky. 2 more years! Hopefully MWO will hold out that long!

We've had a stagnant FP for about 2 years, scouting was nice but LT more than destroyed any gains scouting brought.

QP was stale years ago. The occasional little tweak is nice but it's not a real changing environmentanything like regular.

The problem is the game itself....
Bug, glitch, few map (leave the tool to the modder community...) and above all new mode of play...
I think about battle...with on going objective...and 24 mech for each side...battling on huge map..that require thinking, move and then shot...
Something that could made you think that you are playing a battle and nor a wrestling royal rumble....
