Relax, I have no desire to have decals removed from game or something, just the off switch for ones personal client. Akin to our options for cockpit glass per-say.
Anyhow, yes I am aware you can just memorize the location for each mech and for the most part this will probably get you to hit it if your aims half decent. I'm only annoyed by the poor quality of the decals that causes them to almost "float" atop the mechs surface thus obscuring the lines of the mech. If the decals actually perfectly hugged the lines of the mech, I wouldn't have even mentioned this.
Just some clarification.
Also, noted you mentioned nothing about the hard-point obscuring part????

soldiers have used camouflage to conceal weapons for decades, if not longer. Why wouldn't one use decals too, or nose art?

Also, IDK about you, but I don't spend too much time visually perusing the mech I'm fighting..... I already tend to know the hardpoints and have their paperdoll for the details.

I'm glad they added decals and I'm glad players are having fun with them, but they don't look right yet and the color/texture of them doesn't fit the aesthetic they have already established. They should look like they are part of the mech and not just floating on it. The hero mech camos are a good example of how decals should look.

What is the name of the condition that so many people(especially on the internet)seem to have that compels them to shoot down suggestions that would have absolutely zero impact on their own experience? We saw this when someone asked for an off switch for the cockpit monitors.

I feel sorry for alex... all the passion he has put into making the ugly BT mechs look like actual serious warmachines is now destroyed by a huge wave of bling blings... d*cks and smiley faces.

Pgi just wanted to mock what was left of BT with these... they destroyed the game mechanics long ago... now they are done with the looks too.

This is one of the dumbest things I've heard on this forum. I literally cannot take you seriously.

My concern is withhow bad the decals look, texture wise, and how indiscriminately they can be placed.

A fair concern... but keep in mind, just because you CAN blow up that texture to be that big and put it over the entire head of an urbie... doesn't mean that you SHOULD.

Decals are ment to be accents. They're ment to be put on much like "nosecone art" and such. To give a little bit of personality to a mech.

What we're seeing in the most extreme cases here, are people who don't care about that, and just want to destroy immersion. And I guess that's fine too, I've been in The Old Republic, and seen Jedi or Sith players with Star Trek Names... i've been in Star Trek, and seen the USS. TARDIS, or USS Mellinimum Falcon flying around...

Hell even here in MWO, there's like, 500 bloody "Kerenskys" running around! And I'm using an MLP name as a callsign.

Some people just want to mix things around, other's, want to be "That guy" and just ruin the immersion... but I've been playing games like this for 20+ years now, it's hard to get upset about this kind of thing anymore.

What you do, is use the decals how you feel they should be used, and let the idiot's have their fun with going all crazy with them to make stupid stuff... and move on. Be secure with your use of them, and don't tread over their fun.

No need to complain for an "off" switch, that's just stupid to demand something like that.

I don't need to "sling lables" when some epople alerady admitted that those hitbox and hardpoint covering camo is the reason they want an off switch.

whoa, 5 pages in no time... slow down dudes or we get a hotfix on the deckle system...

At least, no one's complaining about locust nerfs if we have such an important issue in the game like little pics on mechs...

I'll add this to the "conversation" here. same as i have with every other choice that does not follow the rule:

Never add anything to a game that may impact other people's choices or enjoyment of it without a toggle. Remember when we couldn't turn of the ingame chat? Or the voip for awhile. Cockpit glass?

Same difference. You want to see decas, see decals, you don't, don't. Stop making things one sided pgi, you always have to go back and add the option later, why can't you, for once, put it in the first time.

So never add anything, because anything that gets chanegd does exactly do this to one or more people.

wait, you can deactivate camos and colors so you don't have to see those immersion breaking paint jobs?

Past experience in a similar game has proven that an "off" switch is strongly recommended.

Case in point: World of Warships.

Awhile ago, they added anime themes to the game. Basically, if you had an anime ship, it would have the same model as the standard ship, but the paintjob would include some large, glowing lines and rune-like structures. It was far less immersion-breaking than the decal nuttiness we're seeing, and yet they still had the wisdom to allow players to turn "off" the anime skins and maintain immersion with ships with historical camo and paintjobs.

The decals in this game are at least as immersion breaking as glowing lines on a battleship, so the same solution should be applied - allow an off switch for the players. That allows the hard-core fans to retain their immersion while allowing other folks to have fun with decals. Everyone wins and it only requires a bit more programming.

I shall start with only using nnight or heatvision to negate the bad decals.
