Please Stop Calling It " Energy Draw " Because It Has Nothing To Do With Energy-Draw.

People still worried about laser spam? Easy fix? Put all Large Lasers heat and damage back to lore levels.

It sounds like it was derived from another idea that could have been accurately described as energy draw, but changed slightly so that a heat penalty becomes the limiting factor. So it may as well be Ghost Heat 2.

I'm liking spending my time on those OTHER Battletech Game forums..the ones where Devs actually read posts, interact respectfully with the players, etc.
This place is just SSDD, same hamster wheel of futility it's been for 4 years.
You mean the forum where 50% of the posts are from Prussian Havoc?
You can't let him beat you man. Double down and go for the goal!

All lasers are pulse lasers.
Drop Ships are actually Delivery Ships.
Jumpships dont.
Multi-ton Targeting Computers likely run on punch-cards.
Auto-Cannons are not automatic.
Novas cant Torso Twist.
Engine Crits dont.
MM doesnt.
PSR is not a Rating.
Leaderboards do not delineate those who can lead a team.
And Pugs are dogs.

I'm playing the long game. When carpel tunnel syndrome and wankers wrist take him down, I'll still be going.... like the tortoise and the hare... slow and steady wins the race.

I'd say Energy Draw was just about as correct a name as you could give it myself.

This is the most accurate thing I have read all day.

I'm more concerned about his health than anything else. He's got the same thing that Presidents of the US have where they visibly age over a few short years.

Not only that but unless this damage is scaled so that the alpha damage limit increase as the tonnage of the mech increase then it potentially cripples assault mechs. I mean take my Spirit Bear. I have a UAC/20, 2 LPLs and 2 SRM 6s mounted. I very often fire both LPLs and the UAC/20 at ranges out to about 500 meters so that is 36 damage which is a bit more than 30. Therefore I am going to suffer huge heat spikes and I am not even using my SRMs. Throw those in to bring my alpha up to 60 and I am likely into instant shutdown or exploding. Or take a Direwolf that can mount 50+ tons of weapons. I mean what is the point of even using an Assault mech if you can't take advantage of the fact you can mount a crap ton of weapons?
Instead you throw away your Assault mechs and maybe even toss out your heavies. Then pick whatever mech that mounts the most effective combination of 30 damage, toss in the absolute largest engine you can for mobility and now you have the new meta. All of a sudden, a 6 ML Jenner that has an alpha of 30 points exactly, that can also run at 151 kph and has jump jets becomes the best mech in the game because it is a perfectly heat efficient build while the Direwolf which can no longer use its 50 tons of weapons due to heat gets tossed on the scrap heap.
Also as some have pointed out, an alpha limit is still massively exploitable. Mount 4 UAC5s and maybe a couple of MLs and your still only at 30 damage but no other combo of weapon is going to be able to match your sustained DPS because to do so they would have to fire less frequent, higher alpha bursts to keep up and they aren't going to be able to do that due to power draw increasing their heat beyond what is manageable.

Nobody thinks it only applies to lasers. It does however primarily affect lasers, as they are the weapons that require high damage to be useful, that is their selling point. Energy draw is not going to affect 4 AC5 builds, as it is highly unlikely that PGI's damage limit will ever go below 20.
Does anyone care about 4 AC5 builds?
