amazing what a little research COULD have done for the writer...

Oh yeah, very GOOD job by his editor covering his butt. Gotta have respect for a boss that takes up for his employee. (Hopefully behind the scenes, the editor tore him a new one for lack of research).

To each his own, true fans will find MWO and find MWO to be great (from what I have seen so far).

Blaspheme not against the honorable Gamespy editors for their will is divine! Punish not ye man who spews forth criticism for it is only with those hot steely words that a man may be made into perfection.

Hallow the Gamespy Editor for he is the path to perfection.

God wills it!

the author surely started a sh**storm... still he probably did us all a favor by saving the MWO community from a wave of psycho hyped 1337s.

Yea, my experiences with the editor have been bad at best. He strikes me as someone who will make any excuse.

As someone who absolutely hates Halo or Hawken, I don't go "Wut Technobabble!" when people say needler. or Shields. Or Hawken.

Edit: Hate is a strong word for Hawken. I just don't care for it. Fast mechs need a certain feel to them outside of just feeling fast, and Hawken doesn't do that.
Second Edit: RPS did a better article. http://www.rockpaper...-the-centurion/

The problem is that the publishers for MWO haven't paid their bribe fees yet to the people writing the articles. I mean seriously thats the only way some of those console ports could have ever gained a rating over 7, and don't say it doesn't happen either.

http://www.vgchartz....-taking-bribes/

There was also another big one that happened years ago where some company got caught telling the review sites that if they don't give them a good review they will no longer recieve early access to the game to test it out. Thus being the one of the few that can't review a game.

Though I think instead of bribery they now call it "advertising".

Well I don't know what to say about this. If he think that is technobable he shurely must not look at games like eve online. When I hear the term technobable I think about things like this:

"while mauraders are a very strong battleship ship class, sporting tractor beam bonusses and high slot weapon bonusses they have very weak sensor strenght and are thus vulnerable to race specifik ecm from recon ships. This can however be countered by fitting a race specifik eccm module and fit large energy neutralizers in the highs. Watch your capacitor though since a tachyon beam fitted paladin does tend to eat capacitor real quick, especially fitted with a neuts and microwarpdrives. Use a capacitor booster to counter and fill it with cap 800 charges :P"

not: this is the centurion, one variant fits a 20 point damage autocanon for short range, the other varian uses long range missile launchers

for the guys concerned mwo will not yield enough players:
-the same was and is said about eve online
-people had their doubts about world of tanks too

It does, however saddens me that the recent trent of dumbing everything down is following trough. Its one thing to dumb down shooter, but nwadays even stratey games are as shallow as a puddle of water on a conrete street...

I don't think the editor is even remotely familiar with BattleTech/MechWarrior.. or, has seen any of the other gameplay videos.. definitely seemed a bit bored in his writing of the article.

The author of the article is Taylor Cocke, his name is shown under the title of the author.

The editor in chief, Dan Stapleton had to come on in to have a say because of all the hate and anger from the comments.

Poor guy, im imagining he getting flak for his article.

Taylor Cocke@taylorcocke

@O2brutal Flack doesn’t bother me too much! I’m honestly really excited to check out MWO, I really hope I’ll fall in love with it

Not the best confluence of circumstance for Gamespy to let slide onto a page for an unreleased game. To be sure. Let's hope his trip to Nvidia will make a convert of him and he'll post an unequally redeeming "review."

He's just PR backpeddling. Every tweet he has had after throwing insults at the people who didn't agree with his article has been an attempt at PR recovery for Gamespy.

PR Backpedalling is fine with me. I'm more concerned about MWO not being misrepresented on by lazy game reviewers than I am with any kind of personal victory. Hell, even if he states that he still doesn't like MWO after the NVidia thing, at least he'll be able to talk about the actual game with some knowledge and present real information.

gamespy's editors, like most console players I hang out with, seem to be extremely ADD, and want 2 million things a second or they get bored. I could care less their opinion in that regard, cuz I am willing to bet, none of them are at all familiar with the actual Battletech universe.

It's true we may not grow as a community to the insanity or Warcraft or the like, but looking at the number of people on this site pre-Beta even....I think we will do fine.

His preview just shouts ignorance and laziness. I'm glad reading that 'article' has reconfirmed to me the appalling quality that Gamespy spews out on a daily basis for years now. How Gamespy still exists is beyond me.

Most gaming mass media are "paid" for good reviews. Not directly in money in most cases but still, large game publishers influence them in a grate way. When was the last time you saw a mark below 4/5 or 8.5/10 for a game with big marketing fund? No mater how ****** or controversial game is. I do not watch reviews nowadays, it's pointless.

As for this review, none should care. It's a FtP game, anyone can try it out with full functionality.
So if someone like the game - he'll keep on playing and will tell all his friends about it.
If someone doesn't - he's not loosing any money.
Good game will advertise itself.

What he said is like if someone that is completely new to anything Tolkien-like calling Lord of the Rings Fantasy-babble - "Wat si dis? Hobits, Dwarfs, Elfs dafuq?"

P.S. You can better trust reviews from some sincere (non-fanboy) YouTube channels since they aren't paid for advertisements directly by the company but by Google, unlike the usual reviewing sites.

P.P.S. GameSpy is one of the least trusted reviewing sites anyway so reading anything that they post isn't a good idea.

president Nixon used the phrase "Thin as **** on a flat rock".

i agree with you about the dumbing down.
when eve first hit the street i bought it on it's first day of going public, and still have one of the characters i created back then.
it was fun at first, but it changed.
now it has far too many people that have "causing you grief even if i have to suicide gank you in high sec space" as their only reason for logging in.
i blame the change to pablum and the effort to bend to the people that were whining for "a more balanced playing field"
i currently have only three active accounts there.
i play it, but mainly because it's better than anything else out there in the way of sandbox games.

i love WOT, but only from about tier 6 down.
i have 6 or 8 of the premium [also known as gold] tanks, and about 14 other tanks in my garage.
i love the game and it is obvious that the high tier stuff is there to get you to buy gold for translating EXP to FREE EXP.
that's fine, i have a tier 10 and am working up a few tech lines, and I DO send them money sometimes.
i feel that i am getting good value for my money there.
but i also think it would be harder to make that game any dumber.
i was in early beta testing, and loved it all along.

TOR was fun to beta test, i liked it a bit, but i'll wait for it to go F2P.

STO was crap when i was in beta, i waited for it to go F2P, and even though it had changed from the way it was in beta, it didn't get better.
i maxed a character out there just to be sure i wasn't missing something.
i wasn't

i play LOTRO quite a bit and probably send more money to them than i do to all my other games combined.

i have never played WOW, and the main reason is the people i see in other MMO's that crow about how wonderful it is.
i figure if they like it, i don't need to waste my time finding out that i don't.

so when i read this guys review, and see that he doesn't like it, i am pleased with the idea that people that have high regard for him will not be in the game with me.

and i have rambled on here reviewing his review than he did in his review of the game.

but then i suppose i am biased, or maybe my bias is obvious by the fact that i had to force myself at gunpoint to purchase, not just a founders account, but a legendary one at that.
surely i must be a fool.

i spend too much time in these forums, please forgive my semi-coherent rambling.

Dear God, yes! Let's dumb it down. That's celarly the best solution. Don't try to learn, don't try bring yourself up to the level of the information, expect the information to be spoon-fed to you on a silver ******* platter. "Dumbing down" is the last thing any game in production these days needs.
