We may just end up right back where we are right now if they don't heed the above.

I can see it now, everybody getting cooldown quirks, the Alphas will be in even faster.

It's potentially even worse than that.
IS needs extra durability/mobility because XL needs to be protected. They need faster firing lasers and longer range just to cover the deficit from total number of weapons and gap between standard and ER...
But now, at least from what these screenshots show, the Clans get access to these same buffs in the same magnitude.
GG.
Also, I like how each SP costs so much that even the 700,000+ XP I have on my Locusts and Blackjacks results in them being overall weaker than they are now after I spend it all on upgrades. Frickin' neato.

It is up to us to convince PGI to make those numbers more tolerable. Quick, to the Bat Tweet!

Some mechs don't even need quirks. Like the Ebon-jag.

Precisely. That's why I'm so worried.
That said, this isn't coming until some time next year (I think Russ said February is the target), so there could also be a ton of equipment changes between now and then that change the equation.

What scares me is there is no way PGI will get this right on the first patch.

I too am wondering how IS mechs are getting compensated for their loss of quirks!

PGI can still use new skill tree, all the while buffing under performers with additional quirks.

Won't this just make the meta mechs even more meta?
I mean a mech like the Kodiak 3, which doesn't need quirks, will be that much easier to dominate with if you don't have to waste your effort getting it all "leveled" up, where as a mech like the Cataphract or Panther which is only playable due to quirks will take that much more effort to make it playable. No? Am I missing something here?
People are going to quickly realize this, and then those mechs are simply not going to be played...ever. I hope they take this into account.

As someone who has a lot of elite mechs, is the amount being refunded to us going to be enough to pay for the allowable number of quirks, so that every mech we have elited will stay "elited" in the new system?
Will our mechs keep their current XP, plus be refunded the extra they have spent on skills? I have several mechs with hundreds of thousands of XP on them.
The final thing is, if we want to re spec our max skill mech in the new system, will it cost MC to wipe the slate clean and get our XP back? Will we get our XP back?
As someone who has spent a lot of time mastering mechs, I'm concerned. I think it's an exciting change, but I can't see PGI missing the chance to up the monetization of the skill tree and increase the grind.
