There's your issue. Mechs that don't roid-rage off of quirks will benefit from the system Posted Image mechs that do rely on quirks will need to be balanced in some other way. The skill tree change is a solid step in the direction of balancing the game without quirks. It just keeps them around as a method of personalization, which I would prefer.

I think a lot of people are missing the fact that the skill tree system for each individual mech variant is composed of the current pilot skill tree abilities, the current modules available and the existing quirks for the variant. They will assuredly be adding and adjusting things to those current values, but the vast majority of the system will resemble what we currently see for mech variants. The system will be much more complicated and due to that, much more difficult to balance, but it could be done well. One of my main concerns is that if they don't keep re-spec costs down to a very reasonable level it will put a lot of players off to the system and it will cut down on player experimentation, which is a large part of the player enjoyment of highly flexible and customizable game systems.

I think releasing and getting a ****** game is better than the game never being released. I'd rather know what things could have been, than just be blissfully ignorant.
Well I suppose that is a subjective way to look at it. However, if a game is never released I can't/won't waste my money on it, but that is certainly not the case with a released crappy game. You can still know and dream about what could have been if a game never comes out, but with a released game you will always have the reality of what it is to come to terms with.

We will see how it is in April or May 2017. I still maintain my points what ever you may write up guys.

If only once I see PGI do something that will without any doubt benefit the game then I will say so. Its PGI, so trust and hope its like poison.

Dude, your at the proto-troll level. We get it, PGI->insert remark here<, can you shut up now?

@MovinTarget: Well, if the XP isn't still on the mech and you've converted it to GXP which was then spent, then that's already accounted for with the announced 'Legacy GXP' conversion. You can choose to spend that LGXP on the same mech or on any other mech. But there are tons of people who would only rarely, if ever, spend MC to convert it and still have hundreds of thousands of mech XP sitting unused on that variant's skill tree. This is the XP to which I'm referring. It is unspent, so if the quote was accurate, it would not be converted and it would be lost. It is indisputable that we've earned the XP...it isn't our fault that the current available expenditure of mech XP falls short of the target for completely filling the proposed skill trees.

And if PGI knew that converting mech XP to GXP was going to be the only way to salvage fully skilled mechs out of fully mastered mechs, they should not have waited until after just after last month's double XP conversion was finished to let us in on it.

Yeah, they have to tread carefully on that aspect.

I haven't gotten a clear answer, but are skill trees per-variant or per-mech? So if you had 2 of the same variant and want to have them be specialized in different things, do they have to skill up each one individually or is the a single "skill bucket" for all your mechs of the same variant?

For some people its more important to be right than liked... even on something as pointless as roadmap speculation...

That happens every day. Followed by the LRM60 King Crabs. The stupid thing is that there's an awesome better suited to that build by virtue of having a faster cooldown (and the same missile heat reduction and velocity quirks as the mauler).

Lol the point isn't what LRM boat is better, the point was he was, at the time, making predictions that were so vague and open ended I wanted give an example that would be on par with his.

Even if we disagree Movintarget, I do feel you are a good lad :)

Being liked over Internet kind of pointless, speculating over a roadmap as well but very entertaining.

Getting the proto-troll upgrade that's a new, I wonder how much I got to write up to get as big as a locust ??

I got nothing against any of you guys, I flame ( if we can call it so ) because I do care. I been writing up here and there quite moderately in 4 years and its the first time I`m actually that active. I just worried that the skill tree will sabotage the game due to the company`s history with the game. heck even TB ( TotalBiscuit a reviewer on youtube) did a little comment 2 seconds long that was pretty much saying it all.

So if some one is right, I will give him right, got no issue with that. With speculation no one can be actually right or wrong till the change is there but we can still share optimism or worries and its very clear I`m in second camp.

Understood, but still, even here; "right" can be incredibly subjective and the OCD in me believes that if someone is going to state something as fact, it is baseless without proof/supporting arguments/citation/etc...

..you know, like everything else on the internet... ;)

Controverisally, Russ actually did say he hates quads and he thinks they're stupid in a Town Hall. Not good PR, but he said it and I doubt he's going to throw resources at something he not only thinks is not profitable, but also personally hates.

True, that was his most recent comment on them, but he had commented on the technical difficulties multiple times over the years prior to that last comment this past summer. His attitude about quads is odd, especially considering the newly revealed Roughneck, which seems more of a "circus" mech to me(which is how he referred to quad mechs), as it's a converted industrial mech.

Solaris is what quickplay should be. That is where they should put all quickplay content, removing 12vs.12, adding 1vs.1, 2vs.2, 4vs.4, and 8vs.8 options. It would easily accommodate monthly, or quarterly leaderboards and special events.

For me Solaris would be free for all games. Someone else already mentioned that.
Team games like we have now are fun, but does not let shine people with extraordinary skills (not putting myself here). But fight in an arena like map against 9 or 14 other dudes with unpredictable tiers...wow that would be fun. Posted Image

There would be some challenges in balancing this, but would love to see it. It may need its own tier system(as loathe as i am to use that term) so that certain people in certain mechs would face others that are comparable, but the lower/casual players wouldn't have to bite the pillow every single game.

The nightmare scenario would be when the top players all have a gentlemen's agreement to farm off the noobs before facing off against each other... Ideally in ffa, everyone has a fighting chance(caveated out the wazoo)...

XP earned in the new system will be for the specific mech in your mech bay. You will be able to have multiple mechs of the same variant in your mech bay, with each of those mechs having different amounts of XP on them from each other, and differing specs chosen as you see fit. The down side to that is what will most likely be a significantly increased grind for many players. It will also be painful to sell off a mech you spent time leveling, since it seems like that XP will most likely be lost when you sell the mech.

Actually, can I play the prediction game?

Let's see...

I predict that someone will bring an LRM 60 Mauler into QP and scream for locks....

I predict that Dee Eight will assert something and someone will jump all over him in the forums.

I predict a lone cicada pilot, creeping in the shadows with his gauss rifle. Painted in black and leaving tears in his wake.
