Game Toxicity- From The Devs

EVERYONE WOULD SERIOUSLY FACE PALM.
Paul is the cancer. Straight up. The dev's straight up don't understand their own game.
If PGI would get rid of Paul, things would be markedly different around here and markedly for the better.

Yep, I love BattleTech and Mechwarrior and invested early on when I found out about the game. Then I played a few matches and all I remember was being on the edge of one of the wadis in canyon and having LRMs coming in constantly. There was another map on a desert where I was trying to learn but more LRMs. Eventually I quit because the LRM spam was too much and I deployed, forgetting about the game while I was gone. I picked up WoT and played it for a few years before seeing something about this game again and giving it a try.
That explains...a lot.
Good original post though.
You forgot about spending players money on a tournament when people wanted the money spent on something else like game development. And when PGI stated that we were lucky that they, and no one else, owned the license. And so may more...

Player money or company money? When a player buys something it stops being their money. The money becomes PGI's money. While I don't think the tournament was the best use of that money. But it's not really up to me.
Didn't they have HBS put up the prize money in exchange for MWO artwork though?

Since one of the "Gameplay Tips" that are shown in the loading screen before every match includes how you can swap modules between mechs... insulting people who follow the ADVICE that the devs thought was so important they coded it directly into the game so that everyone playing would see makes that dev a fuc king ret ard!!!!!!! Defending the aforementioned dev from his demonstratively proven reta rdation makes you even more ret arded which is shocking by its mere possibilty.

+1 for your tenacity
Just because Quadrupedal mech are not real mechs and belong in a circus was no reason for Russ to say it... just rude

I don't watch podcasts but I was interested to read about the "cheapskates" comments.
I think you owe it to yourself to watch a Russ podcast.
May i suggest the Faction Play Round Table 07.28.2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxCJoE5Vogc
Just remember buckits were never the problem, buckits were never the solution.

And those are just the ones from 3060 and before. But we are talking Paul here, and let's not forget Russ also.
R. Bollocks and P. InYourEye
They have never been concerned to listening to anyone but themselves or their echochamber, and have consistently put down their player base, especially those who voice anything they considered to be negative, since the beginning. Welcome to the island...

Its not the devs that are the problem. They are hard workers that try to do the best that they can with what they have. The problem in PGI lies squarely with their management. RUSS needs to act like a CEO and not a game designer and, as a CEO needs to be ready, willing, and able to fire his management who don't contribute to the growth of the game. As it stands right now I suspect you have a managerial team stuck in a cycle of Groupthink.

No, the problem is that PGI is ignorant. They are ignorant of their own game,
This. Absofuckinglutely this. Do PGI employees spend any time actually playing? They release stuff ('member the minimap?) that makes you wonder. I saw Tina a few weeks ago-- the first time I've ever seen her in game, and I've got near 20k drops. I've dropped with a PGI tagged player maybe a dozen times in my entire MWO career. I think I remember one guy in a Catapult with 2PPCs, 2MLs, 2MGs. I thought the guy was trolling as a joke.
As for "cheapskate," I've got 125 mechs, earned >3 billion cbills, and still don't have enough modules. When my unit switches between IS and Clan I have to go and swap a bunch of seismics and radar derps. Russ can go to h*ll with that comment. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's my fault.

I get that some people might like the new ST, i don't blame them, but the whole process is a fuster cluck combined with a dumpster fire, and it's not the first time. It seems they don't play their own game, and the fact that they ignore their own official forums is just mind numbing. I personally don't like the new ST, especially the UI. Like seriously ppl, wth.

Where PGI fails is ham fisted game balancing decisions, like energy draw and skill tree. It feels like they have a good idea, but want to implement it their way, and not the way the community wants to show that they are in control, except the way they implement it is always terrible, as they skip out a swathe of good ideas they community brings on purpose, and are left with only ideas that are stupid and bad.
The toxicity seems to stem from this. I don't think they're money hungry, as the monetary system is still not bad compared to many of those P2W systems out there. I think it stems more from ego, and the need to control.
PGI, you can still listen to the fans, and produce great ideas on your own, look at the new star wars for instance.

I think I speak for quite a few of us when I say that Russ shouldn't call his player base/customers "cheapskates".
You don't do that. it's wrong.
Glad I don't sport a green name before that happened. I would have really lost it.

What did we do other than support and spend money on your game to deserve this?
Here is my warning to PGI: Stop biting the hand that feeds you or that hand may stop feeding you.

These type of people are CREATED by the devs through their interaction (or lack of) with the community. People aren't naturally toxic about a game, otherwise why would you bother in the first place. Enthusiastic at best, ambivalent at worst is the most you could expect from a player new to any game.
Everybody's tolerance for bullshyte is different. However once that threshold is crossed they either leave (ambivalent types) or they become what is known as the Bittervet (enthusiastic types). The Bittervet is the one that swallowed the dream the deepest, invested their time and money into what they were told would happen, only to have those hopes dashed for one reason or another and then be told "well your expectation was too high".
I have learnt one very good lesson from PGI. "Do not believe the hype". PGI and other developers spin a lot of bullshyte about what they are going to do. Believe it when you see it in the game, not some fancy rendered presentation. IN THE ACTUAL GAME. When you see a feature you want in the game, then spend your money, not before and certainly not based on a promise.
PGI's biggest failure as been to not deliver on even their own vision (repeatedly). I have never had any expectation for this game other than what has been advertised, by PGI them selves. Much has been either not delivered at all, years late or in a form unrecognizable from what was described. Some because of technical reasons which most accept, others because IMO of bad management/design.
I will give PGI credit where it is due. They rarely fail to meet expectations these days, because nobody has any. This is because they either don't communicate or do it poorly (cheapskate comment among others). Or it could be that I just fail to believe anything they say until I see it.

Skill tree is full of useless nodes, it's refund system isn't perfect. I honestly don't care if it comes or goes. I've always thought there were more important issues to tackle than CW phase 9000 and the skill tree. I've given up on fighting for those more important things. Not because PGI, but because the community is the one to blame.
I wanted MWO to be updated and grow. Most of this community did not care or did not want MWO to be updated with Unreal Engine. So Russ did the next best thing MW5. It was comical to watch the same people against my update the game posts flip and go but why not MWO?
So MWO will stay in the past where the majority of the community likes to live and dwell. MW5 will progress to the future. Only thing left for me to do is one more Mad Cat MK II crusade for MW5.
I can't help but wonder how your post might have gone if the mad cat mk2 hadn't been released recently. It wasn't so long ago when your posts had an entirely different tone.
