gave it a chance and i think i could like it with a few more tweaks. seriously, you can build unbelieavable over the top brawler with all that stuff, TTK is finaly significant lower and the horrible laser meta has gone. all the matches with the new skilltree was fun as hell, some close games, some stomps but the game feels much better as before ST patch. i think you should give it a chance like i did.

I got irritated at a couple of guys about exactly this; they proclaimed the skill tree would be great, fix loads of issues etc...so I asked "have you tried It? On the PTS?" To which the response was "Well..no...it takes ages to download...but the skill tree will be great anyway"

ah and btw why i should ever play objectives in the missions when i get only rewards when i hit mechs?
this would be a good move to rebalance the missions. no wonder that pugs only shoot at mechs instead of turrets for example. and why not bringing new maps? but i think that will be only a dream....

A bigger game such as you simplified the skill tree because they found out people would find the optimal path and use that one. So they created a much simpler skill tree with meaningful choices. You may have heard of it? World of Warcraft.
Guess u dont play WoW anymore since in the new expac every weapon has a skill tree in it.... so yeah.....

Now, while I was initially against ST very much, I knew we wouldn't get a choice on it so I decided to roll with the blows. Having said that, it actually allows some VERY nice customizations which we couldn't have before. The downside is, the mechs will never be as completely buffed out as before, just accept in terms of lore they were too good fully levelled.
I am just thinking building a mech is fairly complicated as you need to build something that works, not just fill out all the weapon slots etc.
The ST isn't as hard as it seems, I know it's all over the place literally but once you do it a few times it's easy to remember where the goodies are.
I have faith that PGI will read our concerns and make it easier to fill out the tree as already suggested: Pre-defined roles templates e.g. sniping, brawler etc
Or Customisable templates etc.
The deathbyclick needs to be addressed asides this it's actually pretty good.

This is a great point Ash and another reason why this patch wasn't 'value-added' to the user. If you want to change your build on a whim for comp or lobby fights, and do it optimally, you have to devote serious time for this and points. Then don't forget you have to revert it back to your normal build, which will take even more time and points cuz you know, there's no way to save tree loadouts..
..I seem to recall in a town-hall meeting ages ago that they said they were gonna work on a way to allow the player to save their loadouts to a file? Now THAT would have been a value-added feature!

EXACTLY !
All I can add is - PGI has ruined this game with a ~200mb patch, they ruined all fun from this game,
Changing so much to change a loadout on a single mech - loosing lots of time and points, yeah go and buy some MC thats what they want,
There is no more LOCUST - there is a piece of WOOD !
THANKS IM OUT !

Its just a huge mess on skills you never need or notice.
Another incredible stupid thing is the respeccing. i skilled advanced zoom by mistake, clicked on "apply" and now i have lost a SP point. no you dont get it back when you delete this node out of your mech. you still have it, can buy it back ( srsly PGI, C-Bills or exp from the mech) so you can skill it again.
Its not that its already a grinding game, now you have to grind for skills and mechs.
For newer people it gets even more frustrating to start a dropdeck for a empty FW because you have to play months for a dropdeck and another couple weeks for the skills in one mech.

If it was possible to divide the skill tree into general skills and specalization skills, giving a general percentage advantage as a general skill, and then the option to focus on a specific weapon to boost performance even more for that particular weapon, we would see more specialization builds. Now if I want my mech to specialize in lasers, the only real option I have is to be good at everything (range, cooldown, heat gen) and then only get 4 nodes that is specific to lasers (laser duration). I dont want my mech to equally good at everything at once, I rather want to be extra good with laser, sacrificing ballistics and missiles.
That's what I feel the skill system lacks. Sacrificing some skills to be really good at one thing.
