C-AC/20s and C-UAC/20s are beyond useless, any change to them? No.

Laser balance overhaul =/= ballistics overhaul... Not that I particularly agree with your statement to begin with.

I said the ERSL is a worse ISML because:
clans do not have a laser optimal for isml bracket
the ERSL is the closest to the ISML in terms of heat, damage, range, and role.
I said this to underline how mediocre the ersl is now. I should have iterated more: Sorry.

In terms of sl family, all mechs that currently use them are either forced to use cspl or none at all. Currently, unless undertonned by the choice, swapping between ersl and cspl has been a choice between sustained close range damage or more frontloaded damage. The spl was technically more optimal for its range bracket, but the choice between the two was a perfectly considerable one, until the skill tree dropped, gave pulse laser boats the ability to ignore the sustain cap and crank damage with cooldown reductions and super powerful spammable cool shots.

The new system severely hurts the ersl and cspl, but hurts the ersl so much that the cspl is the only laser to be considered for its range bracket. This will also incintivize the use of maximal cooldowns so that the spl's low frontloaded damage can be compensated for, leading to the same problem as before that a .05 reduction in dps does not fix. And any mechs who cannot withstand the face time can no longer effectively use these lasers.

I also don't understand what you mean by the Nova going nowhere. Yes, the Nova stilk has ppc and 6erml going for it, but at close range it doesn't have the hitboxes or armour to face tank while throwing out 48 damage ghost heat staggered alphas. Or sit through whole ersl burns and expect not to get cored. And even if i have forecasted wrong and the nova can power through these issues and become the clan spl partyback, how does this invalidate everything else I said? Argue your point if you have one please.

Argue? All I see is you rant a lot trying to justify having broken weapons that are clearly always going to be first choices...

The Nova is still a great boat we just won't be using it in exactly the same way. Its hard to adapt at all I guess for some people ....

People use energy weapons because ballistics are nerfed by having worse DPH and all sorts of ghost heat not in the lore.

Though most of my JM6 deaths today were from dual gauss boats so.... ;)

That's your opinion. This map offers many routes and elevations and playstyles...oh wait...it is no snipefest map. Got you.

Its not? *blinks* I must be imagining all those on the wall. ;)

But yes I generally agree.

I beg to differ.

From sarna.net:

"...]Pulse lasers increase damage because they allow vaporized armor to dissipate from the location of damage. This allows subsequent pulses to reach the target area without being diffused by the vapor. ..."

Fluff has always been fluff and stats have always trumped it. The books even tell you that. ;)

its all good, quirks/no quirks/...changes will be made...perhaps we should all go inner sphere for a period of time...because we all know that clan tech is better, but for this game clan n inner tech should be the same? Its all good ladies and gents, just take the "blue pill".

It is not the same but also it can't be imbalanced to the point that one side has some clear advantage. Who would be willing to play the disadvantaged side?

OK, I have tried most of my usual pick mechs under the new changes, and I can honestly say I can hardly notice the changes. The Clan smpls lasers are still good, just play smart and you'll be fine, still managing to do 700+ with my 5x smpls + 5 x ermed Nova. Play the mech as a specific role, don't expect to be a tank when you are in a 50 tonne mech and you'll be OK. The IS lrgpls is also still great, The damage reduction is offset by the better cooldown, if anything I think it is better than it was, Loving it on my Warhammers and Battlemasters. Can't say much about the Small Lasers for either side as I don't use them on many/any mechs. To me the large lasers on both sides feel relatively the same, certainly nothing big enough to cry about anyway.

Guys just get out there and try it, if anything the changes are encouraging you to use better tactics. The changes were put in for a reason, I will definitely vouch that the Clan Smpls was horrifically overpowered. The changes affected many of my mechs too, (Beloved Nova was belted hard by the smpls nerf), but adjust your play style, use a bit more situational awareness and tactical genius, (CREEEEED!!!) and you'll be just fine.

(Edit: adjusted the wording a bit)

(Edit 2: Please disregard this entire post as the patch hasn't even been released, I am leaving it up to remind myself to not be an idiot and make sure to check that my comments are relevant to the topic at hand) .

I feel really bad about this patch. Feels like PGI going to make a huge overdo in their struggle for a balance. I can't see any reason to use small pulses after this patch. It's literally like just remove them from the game. Poor decision if you ask me.

Yeah, MWO "A BATTLETECH GAME" is not supposed to be "balanced". In BATTLETECH some mechs are supposed to be better than others, heavier mechs are supposed to have more firepower and be more durable. In BATTLETECH, it is the economy that balances the game, Heavier mechs just plain cost more and are more rare on the battlefield. Light mechs are supposed to be scouts and spotters, or anti-infantry / light armor, Mediums are supposed to be the most common mechs on the battlefield. Heavies should be gun-boats / missile boats and Assaults should be leading the charge or holding a vital objective. PGI does not understand their IP, or they are just so focused on making a profit that they are willing to throw it all out in order to attract more modern (short-attention-span) gamers.

Cheers, I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong, (or in this case just plain stupid hahaha).

Anyway, I will wait until patch drops and then see how my usual mechs are affected by the changes before commenting further.

Umm... Yeah... with CSPL's getting a chicago police nerf beat down.. Will you be at least be allowing Clan players to use 55ton mechs in FW Scouting again?

this is a pretty brutal nerf for some clan lights & mediums, especially in combination to the hp buffs the skilltree brought - it all equals having to stick around longer which = death cheetah might enjoy improved higher efficiency per alpha, it needs it... but the poor 6 c-spl IIC-A jenner will suffer but in good news ! the IS jenner will really benefit from those cooler med lasers

ok basically clan gets nerfed again? you guys in PGI admitted that the reason why you see things curve up and down is due to positioning. that is THE PLAYERS fault. NOT THE GAME.

So half my clan mechs aren't going to be effective anymore. Thanks PGI. All you had to do was increase IS laser ranges and reduce Clan laser ranges.

so are all the power fisting builds buried six feet under? gargoyle, executioner, nova..etc

Remember kids: No matter how nerfed they get, clans will ALWAYS be OP. B'cuz reasons.

When you see page after page of Clanners crying that they might actually have to use skill for once, instead of just crutching on overpowered mechs and weapons, you know PGI is doing something right for once.

Thanks PGI, good patch.

I am glad they are spending their time worrying about which weapon is doing 0.1 dps more than some other weapon and using some kind of fuzzy logic that makes no sense to nerf the IS mechs armor quirks. This is so much more productive than say making a new map or something equally creative.

You forget the IS pilots (me being an IS pilot) who rely on overpowered quirks rather than skill to win the game. You may be an excellent artist, but you are no better a mechwarrior than me. Don't give me the "I'm a tier 1 either" it is easy to get carried to tier 1 in a good group.
