Plz no.
The DPS put out by MGs inside their 130 m bracket is piddly compared to the SRMs and SPL spam it faces. A jam bar would kill them outright.
And at 250 m, the LMG gets roasted by UACs, SRMs, MRMs, and ATMs. So, again, dead with any sort of limiter.

HMGs are the weaker MG already
Against internals they are the best thing going. And they do a respectable job breaking apart armor when boated as the OP says.
The short range is a moot point since the mechs capable of boating a sufficient number are also fast enough to get into optimal range easily.

And lights that close to their target are even easier to shoot and bag. Disengaging from that distance will, at best, leave you crippled, on average, leave you dead.

McGral18 can correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC the LMG is better at crits than the rest.
As for breaking up armor, SRMs are pretty great at it, too. Better, even.

Only the Clan ones. No IS Lights with 6+ and, even if there were, they wouldn't be using HMG.

McGral showed that the LMG has the highest difference between anti-armor and critical damage (I think it was 3x), but I don't remember it being the actual true highest critical damage.

Other then LMGs, HMGs have terrible ammo/ton, worthless range, and are heavier then the rest making them meh at best (or rather extremely situational), while regular MGs have sorta nothing really going for em as range is still too pitiful to snipe/harass, and they dont exactly have the DPS of the HMG to compensate for a lack of range. Both of those are very much fair imo, as their high crits and good DPS is severely limited by range (and to use em you have to take the risk of being suceptible to just about any weapon in game). LMGs on the other hand, might not have that crazy DPS per gun, but when you have 6+ they stack up real fast, generate no heat, and can be used outside of brawling range, a little too much imo when you put it all together, but i do like the idea behind em, they just need to have some downsides besides uselessness at less then 4 guns...
