What if Mechwarrior 5 gets bad reviews on release, will it be the end of PGI?

lol, seeing as how PGI is not synonymous with Mechwarrior, I'd wager that PGI will drop the IP and move on and take on other games. There's no reason for them not to be able to take on other projects.

Remember transverse? They came, they tried, didn't work out. The project went away, PGI remained. Any assets and concepts for that game would have likely been liquidated/sold away to people generating similar games that were/are looking for assets. If MW5 flops, they'll probably find a developer (with the help of Microsoft) who wants to take it over, transfer the license, content etc, which means PGI drops Mechwarrior altogether (whether that's their choice or Microsoft's), then move on and take on something else.

I think a video game company who goes under because one title didn't make the big break would spell out serious management issues.

MW5 should have joystick support.

I hope it does so I can set up my controls the same as I do here. If I can do that I would be happy. Now mind you I use it for throttle, turning, jump jets, and a lot of other things but not for actually aiming and shooting- I still use a mouse for that. But I do understand that some players want to use it for aiming and shooting and I see no reason why they couldn't or shouldn't add support for it.

On topic, I think MWO would probably continue on for a few years until it gets ported to the new engine and then MWO would continue on for a while until it dies out or will stay in a perpetual state of stagnation. I really don't think MW5 will flop though. I think for the size of PGI, MW5 will be enough of a success that they will be able to grow as a company and continue development of MWO and any MW5 add-ons if that's what they want to do.

I hope it does. Microsoft might open its eyes and remove PGI's license and give it to someone who can actually make use of it.

Well actually its more than a rumour. Its official they are working on an unannounced title of some sort.
I am guessing space sci-fi. Posted Image
That's my guess because they have Elder Scrolls for fantasy and Fallout for post apoc.

So you're guessing it's a space sci-fi, and you're confident in saying that if it is a space sci-fi, Star Citizen won't even compare to what Bethesda will make.

Well, sir, I guess we have wildly different expectations for future Bethesda games. I hope you're right. I think I'm going to enjoy Star Citizen quite a lot, so if Bethesda makes a game that is incomparably better then.... sounds like a win-win situation Posted Image

I personally don't see any route they can take short of porting MWO to be its multiplayer component that it would even have a chance at monetary success.

Maybe if they released it for $15-20 bucks with a few hundred worth of $10 map/campaign packs, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that PGI has a clue when it comes to development to make the game fun enough that people would be willing spend any meaningful amount of money on a single player game.

At this point you can pretty much count on it being a failure unless they make some major changes in their leadership and production direction.

im sure theyll sell mechpacks for MW5 too... I mean MW4 did it... and MWO. so why not MW5 too?

itll be hilarious paying a second time for the same exact models used in the mechpacks we bought for MWO

PGI is gonna recycle MWO mechpacks for MW5

Whats really funny is the whales would happily buy them all again TOO!

MS gets their license fee anyway, so why would they care? In the business world only money talks, not customers.

If they work together with GOG and bring them together out - running in Win10 - why not?

Bought on release date, palyed 35h. Is nice but isn't worth the cost. Has not more to offer compared to MWO... at least at present.

Depending on the review site and if they were paid for their review most reviews complain about the ai but say overall visuals are "good." For mwo vets we knew for years ai is not something pgi is great with. VIP Atlas Escort. I think it was pc gamer which bemoaned the sub-par voice acting.

About the worst in the reviews I read were:

IGN:And sure, this isn’t the best-looking game I’ve ever played. The textures definitely look muddy and dated, even on higher settings....My AI lancemates could feel like more of a burden than an asset early on, as they seemed more likely to get themselves deep in trouble and lose me some expensive hardware unless I treated every op like an escort mission.

Yeah the AI is mind numblingly stupid especially your lance mates, exacerbated by the very bad lance controls.

HINT: bind your F1 button to your middle mouse. You double click it, and it'll select all and attack.
This is the best way I've found to control the lance mates in the heat of battle instead of taking your hand off the keyboard to reach for the function keys.

Look at games like Xcom 2 and Warhammer 2, they have benefited so much from the Steam platform simply due to mods. I see 20k - 30k people playing Warhammer 2 every single day, new purchases are made and all because there simply are different games within one. Some mods totally change the game and make it different keeping it alive, look at Xcom 2 where you can play a good Star Wars mod and have a different experience.

Don´t tell me a game like MW5 wouldn´t benefit from a strong modding community? Shaping the game in various directions and giving everyone something which suits their taste, we are individuals and like to tailor the "fun factor".

As it is now MW 5 caters more to the hardcore fans and thus limiting it´s fanbase, the game in itself is also very restrictive when it comes to customizing mechs and mission variety. All this could have been mended by having an active and engaged modding community, it is possible without Steam but that platform facilitates a lot.

Originally pgi was going to launch on steam/gog but went to egs for the $$$ because Russ wanted all the $$$. Now you have to wait until 2020-21 to get it on steam with or without mod support. Pgi claims steam mod support but until I see modding tutorials on youtube of it along with the steam store page itself saying steam workshop mod support I don't believe pgi a dam. Esp not after all the bs they've done with mwo.

Why is everyone hell-bent on receiving mod support in the form of Workshop or some EGL's mod-works? Can't any of you get mods from places like Nexus or ModDb when they're ready and place them in their appropriate folders in the installation directories after a bit of tweaking?

They really should have done a kickstarter, that way it would be mostly paid for by people before hand and if it flops they aren't losing the company a great deal of money.

If it flops, who knows, I don't know what their budget holds as far as extra money to dedicate towards a new game and all that it takes to make one. I don't assume it will be the end of PGI.

My real question would be then, what if PGI loses to Harmony Gold in court AND the game flops?

That would be a one-two punch that could seriously disrupt things I imagine.

Well, since some moment, when it's development had been abandoned, MWO has been used as source of money for MW5, so it has actually been something like kickstarter. So PGI won't lose anything.
