What I suggest is two part. The first part is exactly what Ash has already done: Have skilled players and units be willing to reach out an help train developing players. Eve has a notoriously steep learning curve, and this is exactly the path their community has taken. It is surprising to me that more people haven't taken him and other up on his offer. I have it on good authority that at least one of the non-l337 merc companies have decided to take Ash up on his offer, though still compared to the total number of players this is just a drop in the bucket. If this effort could be expanded and if people are willing to take it, we could see a real uptick in participation.
Emphasis mine. As I've explained in other threads, the vast (and I do mean VAST) majority of players in any online game never visit official or unofficial forums. If we look at MWO's boards in particular it's clear that even the majority of those that do visit the boards never even look at the Faction Play section. Therefore it is not surprising that a forum-based initiative has a low turnout, particularly compared to the number of players that would be likely to take advantage of such an initiative if they know about it.
To truly reach players en masse, there needs to be an in-game solution. That solution could be as simple as PGI endorsing efforts like Ash's through the main MWO newsfeed or it could be as complex as changing the queue. Regardless of the exact method, if a substantial amount of players is to be reached it needs to be through in-game means.
As to spawn camping, it certainly does not help. What ticks me off, personally, is the hypocrisy of certain players that talk a big game about playing to win and yet will deliberately play
not to win. Killing every mech doesn't win the game on Siege attack or Domination, killing omega/capping the circle does. If those players want to justify spawn camping in those modes by talking about cbill/LP rewards and such, fine, or even justify it by saying the other team deserves it/did it to themselves, also fine. But to justify it
and berate players for not playing to win, as they at that very moment avoid winning in order to farm more damage, that is disgusting: the game is already won, just end it and move on to the next.
I had a similar experience as Mech Nuggets a few days ago where a few people on my team were insisting that we not finish off Omega and instead camp the spawn. While I didn't take gauss to the face for it, my comment about just ending it wasn't taken kindly.
