Meet the new Firestarter Hero, same as the old Firestarter Hero!

Also...I may actually pull the trigger in this, though I don't care at all for Solaris itself.

The old Ember paint was especially boring. The new one is welcome.

While I might Pokemech for gits and shiggles, Asym makes a point I thought about after my last post. $30. Half the price of a new fully-fleged title with no microtransactions, no "F2P", no P2W. Guess we got used to PGI's economy, and they're used to the older, wealthier playerbase that comprises us few remaining BT fans.

I really hate to defend PGI's monetization (cringing intensifies), but for F2P games they do have to have each individual payer spend more than they would on a normal $60 game simply by virtue of the fact that a huge majority is not going to pay anything.

Let's make up some numbers to illustrate the point. Let's pretend we've got a $60 game that sells a million copies, because that's usually considered a big milestone. This gives us $60,000,000 in raw revenue.

Now let's have a F2P game. If we assume that only 20% of the playerbase spends money at all (200,000 players out of a million), and for now assume that they all spend equally (which is unlikely but makes it easier). In order to equal that same $60,000,000, those 200,000 people would need to spend an average of $300 each.

That 20% estimate is probably highballing it for most games though, only very rare cases like World of Tanks seem to get that high (according to various articles the amount of payers is usually below 5%). But then again, in a niche game like MWO we probably have a higher proportion of whales than the average generic mobile apps (which is probably the main source of the data). I'm kind of digressing though...

The point is, each individual payer needs to pay more if the game is F2P since they need to make up for the huge masses of people that will never spend.

As nice as the sentiment is, It's just hard to justify buying virtual (premium) content on top of expenses that otherwise could have spent paying bills like rent, water, food, electricity. At around 300$ I'd rather buy a Hi-Point C-9 Pistol.

Judging by his language, I think what he means is that he's one of those weird roleplayers who only plays mechs from one faction and refuses to touch the other one. In this case, he's an IS roleplayer who doesn't want a Clan mech "polluting" his precious mech pack.

At its most basic level this. Despite how I usually start matches, I'm not really a roleplayer, just a long time BT fanboy who votes with his wallet = no cash on Vatborns. I'll buy them for C-Bills, Com Guard salvage from Tukayyid I suppose, I can always reuse mech bays, but just one of the many rules I impose on my MWO play, no Clan mech packs or heroes.

Unlike a Steam packs Garrett's Vulture being a hero means I could but the pack and sell it, but doesn't feel right. Easier to scream "Death to Mix-Tech Mech Packs!" at the start of matches instead.

They ruined the the game for this nonesense, instead of rewarding them the players ought to strangle the cash flow. At the very least look at solaris before you pay up cause if it turns out to be lame youll be sorry :)

Might just be me, but seven C-Bill boosted 'Mechs of which only one looks capable doesn't seem like great value. Pass.

The firestarter hero needs 4 missile hard points instead of ballistics... then it would be awesome !!

I've always found the mechs to be overpriced, but by the prices of this mechpack, they would actually be somewhat justified.

...If most of them didn't scream "meh" loudly.

Obviously, there are/will be a lot of plus and minus on the mechs in this pack.....

BUT, to newer players, 7 Hero, C-Bill buffed mechs with mechbays for $30 is a great deal, regardless of the hard points, again, for newer players wanting a good deal to get some good mechs.

What many of you are hearing in this thread, is commentary from people like myself, who have a LOT of mechs already, and are looking for the next big Meta, kill-em-all-dead Mech.

The Solaris pack does NOT appeal to me, but, if I were in the 5-10-20 mechs owned range, I would definitely consider this pack.

Yeah wtf on the Firestarter. They just rearranged the points. :/

Its actually the Firestorms config I really wanted from a Firestarter with ballistics.. So. Yeah Im very happy.
Bruise em with 4 x lasers of some kind then aim the mg at weak internals. Another plus is that the arms are useless anyway when the ammo for the mg's run out so theres that.

Cant go AC 20, UAC 20 or gauss, heavy gauss on it though Posted Image THATS what the Ember is for!

Hi Asym,

The pack does a couple of things. One, it gives PGI some cashflow which is important for any business to survive. Second, it arguably eases a new player's grind for only thirty bucks with seven c-bill boosted mechs covering all the weight classes. I know MWO is supposed to be F2P, but the vast majority of players put some money into this game.

While they might not be making the game improvements many of us would like to see, at least for the moment, it's still pretty good value.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

PGI is going to PGI. You or I or anyone not buying this or that mech pack is not going to change that (now buying and then threatening refunds on a mass scale...that is a different story). No point in begrudging others their enjoyment. I'm just happy that folks are still willing to step up and fund.

Hmm. $30 for a new UrbanMech hero seems a little expensive, but the paint job is very nice. It comes with some extras too I see, always a good thing Posted Image

Powercreep P2W?
If they dont get the newest toy, they have an disadvantage.
Thats why pgi wants comp-play and e-sports and why we will have solaris but not real cw.

And this time its an ok sell, you got at least 7 virtual toys for your money,
instead of the usual 1 or 2 for the same money.
Around 4€ for a mech and a bay would be a microtransaction.
