The MechWarrior Online version is the best looking as usual.

As for the style of gameplay, I do fine in a Cicada, would do fine in this to. Medium range lasers work with the Cicada.

I only got to use the black lanner a little before I had to go to bed, but so far it's OK. If you're playing a hit and run style game then it's very good.

The hero is definitely my favourite of them. Large heavy laser, two srm 4s and six machine guns. It's light on ammo but what's the point of having unspent rounds, eh?

Visibly squishy. Seen them a few times yesterday. Basically, the first mechs to go in a match.
The point is, speed is its main defence. Which means it should be played like a VERY confused light. And people are really bad at playing lights in MWO.
I am looking forward for cbills release.

So, how's Blanner's scouting application? Is 113kph + masc any better that the Ice Fridge's raw 140kph?

Whenever I see Black Lanners its like seeing a homeless mech, I just want to donate weapons to it.

With speed tweak it's just over 120. With MASC applied it's roughly 150 if I remember correctly. It makes it good at getting in and out quickly.

How anyone thought a mech that canon looks like this was going to be tall and lanky, I'll never know.

Some arts get pushed through even when they're completely abandoned as they then derive elements from it and improve it.

That is certainly some unfortunate art, but a lot of middle art was bad.

Note I said middle art.
Early art... looked like this.
Spoiler

Sadly, after the original Harmony Gold debacle, FASA decided to only use internally hired artists (no more commissioning) and not sure how that worked, but I assume they had maybe a few artists on payroll for a while. But the art really suffered on non-human artwork for a long time, leaving it up to fans to try and compete with the quality of some of the better commissioned stuff. Many of those fans being artists that FASA used to commission, in fact, but FASA was afraid of how easily any licensed/commissioned art could bring them into a debacle. At least that's how I understand it.

Better than I thought it would be.
Bought because of the hate. Kind of felt sorry for it.

It can be a fun challenge finding builds that "work".
Hit boxes are better than I thought they would be but I've only ran a few matches.

Only bought the standard pack. With no option to get the ballistic pods it's kinda tough making things work. Best builds will need the reinforcements or hero. Also, this thing is so tonnage starved for weapons. Will be fun for awhile because it's "new" but that will run it's course and this mech will collect dust like the Hellspawn and a few other previous mech releases. So my opinion, DOA!

Kon, in that first picture you have a Valkyire and Stinger.

The Valkyrie is a dead give away thanks to the arm laser and the launcher tubes in the LT...

Confirmed DOA (well maybe not dead but certainly sucks the big one on arrival)

Basic models have too few hardpoints (nice incentive to buy the reinforcements though), big engine+masc but no jump jets means only mild firepower, which would be okay if it weren't for the lack of hardpoints. Reinforcements/hero might be okay but who in there right mind is going to bother to pay to find out?

You can't make much of an SRM brawler or much of a laser vomit poke out of it. Maybe a hybrid laser/ssrm light chaser? Using it for hit and run means your damage numbers will be _low_ thus situational at best = bad mech.

One thing that has impressed me is that PGI have actually managed to make a crappy clan mech - it's not the balance we were asking for but at least it's something...

JJM1, I said it way back when the mech was first shown, in the hands of the right player it'll be decent to okay. If that player is more of a cavalry player it might be okay to good, but for the average typical MWO pilot that likes to poke it'll likely be a bad fit as it will lack the tonnage to do medium to long range trades effectively, this mech will really live or die by HSL/ERSL/SPL vomit as it will only have around 11.5t to work with, when fully armoured.

I just saw a Black Lanner running ATM9 + 3 HML. I can fit the same build in a Kit Fox with 2 tons of ammo, ECM, a light active probe, and 3 extra DHS.
That's pretty sad.

I don't think the Black Lanner can do much that a Shadow Cat can't do better.

As I said above, the Lanner has around 11.5t pod space, if you shave a few points off of max...

A Shadow Cat pushes 16t of pod space with max armour..

An Ice Ferret pushes 9t of Pod space with Max armour...

A Viper pushes 8.5t of pod space, if you shave a few points off of max...

I don't know if they are DOA, but the ones I've seen in matches have not been faring very well. It will probably take a little time before people figure out how to best use them.

Good hunting,

While fun, it does seem soft. If a heavy or assault looks at you, there is a good chance you are going to lose half of your weapons. The STs and arms seem to love getting lit up.

Still, I was able to have fun when I played unbelievably cautious..

I'm having fun with mine so far, right now I'm messing around with the D Config, all pods kept'd and running 4 erml's and 4 mg's with 4 tons of ammo and 3 dhs.

I focus on being a harasser and a flanker try to pry targets and when they are open enough I rush them with mg's and tear through their internals, it takes some patients and understanding of the mech to really bring it out.

I also try to not go full max armor so I can at least have an extra one or two tons for HS or ammo.

I've made it down to less than 25% of my mech left a few times.
Less than stellar aim on the enemies part might of helped some.
