Of course. Damage equals matchscore, so firing spread damage as inefficiently as possible will both pad damage and matchscore easily at the cost of, y'know, actually killing something quickly.
ATMs > both.

Hey BC !!!
What you said above is so true.......but, I wasn't hired to kill pilots outright.... I was recruited to simply keep their heads down while the real killers "did their thing"... Sorry, I may be a darn good long range shooter in real life (I just got back from the range in fact a moment ago) but, I was recruited because I like IDF and combat support roles. Like, in another game, I am a Morgami specialist and spend the entire match "catching others on fire" all of the time.... It's a hoot ! Causing confusion, interrupting decision cycles and just playing merry hobb with their best laid plans......which, always fail on contact, because we think, plan and inpplement missions that way.... Shame that crew won't come back......
So, I like the IDF role and whether I "kill" something is less important that did the team "achieve victory"..... I haven't played in a few weeks and all of the "LRM woe as me" forum posts had me a bit concerned that LRM's were nerf'd out of existance. Yes, PGI has over-done it again but, all of the lock-on missles at least still work to some degree of effectiveness.. I do have an ATM-24 mech and I'm still a little "yeah ATM's are OK" about it. I hate the narrow "effective range" window.....
If I can get 100 loot bags, anyone can. Thank you PGI for the MC. Not that I have any need of it, it's just nice to save up since I now I only play events with MC..... Faction play is coming up in a few days and that is in Scouting I hope because Invasion is something I will not PUG (being a potato and all) ever again and the teams I belonged to aren't playing MWO anymore (shucks...)
BC, et al., good luck with Solaris.
