Also sounds like the people is S . E . Asia need to get their service providers to fix their routing like the oceanics already had to do.

Nope.

The issue is the OVH data center in Sydney. They are routing their traffic wrong (via US for SEA, not directly to AU).

Well this is bad for us in Asia, I played way back when Oceanic Server didn't exist and i was playing on US servers for 300-400 Ping. I guess i will be going back to these pings.

I do not know about the routes this line are in. Depends on the ping thou. I'm guessing i will be getting 200-400 ping if it's moved there.

But i think this is more of a business move. Obviously a majority of MWO is in Australia compared to asia. If i was running a business i would focus on where the money is and that's what their doing.

If i do get a ping of 300 to 400, i'll be moving to the US server since i'm getting 250 to 350 ping. But i do play on the US servers on occasion anyways. Time to get use to it again if they decide permanently to move it there.

EDIT: I just remembered. This is really gonna hurt me when i pilot light mechs. Ouch.

I live in Asia. Sadly, the Australian server now gives me 400ms ping. It's back to the N.American (260ms) and European (200ms) servers for me. I don't think I can do high precision play at those pings, so... I may cut back on playing MWO.

I used to get 3ms pings to SG server. If I'm going to get 300ms pings to Sydney server, it's simple. I'll just play at NA and EU servers since I get 240 and 270 pings respectively for those. AU and NZ can go ahead and play with themselves.

If NA and EU players are seeing 400-500ms pings to Sydney, good luck and good hunting to AU and NZ players partying amongst themselves in Sydney. The rest of us in Asia would just migrate to NA and EU. Could be an insignificant blip, but it's still very likely the outcome.

Are AU and NZ pilots able to see this while jumping up and down in joy for getting a Sydney server? We'll know soon enough when the silent majority AU/NZ pilots abandon the Sydney server in droves to go to the NA/EU servers in the end cuz they can't spool up games fast enough due to a lack of pilots.

once again people, this is a test only
it will be assessed in 7 days
nothing is permanent at this stage

also, this is pgi - did you expect things to go smoothly the first time around? we get a hotfix with every patch...

Previously, Aussies are getting 250++ pings when playing on the Singapore servers.
With the server change to Aus, Asians are getting now getting pings of 400++.
Hmmm seems pretty logical to me what will happen.

I stay in Singapore. the PING is around 400ms but the lag makes the game unplayable sometimes.

Before the shift it was smooth as butter.

Better to play on European and North American servers now.

Had one game on the server and save for literally a handful of people, everyone else was getting in the region of 300+++. I don't recall the NA and Euro servers experiencing this level of high pings

Let's make this simple. Here are my pings now...

Posted Image

I used to only play in NA and Oceanic servers (I find playing on Euro servers "unenjoyable" at 340+ ping).

Doesn't matter what my old ping on Oceanic used to be -- looks like I will only be playing on NA servers from now on (and might have to rethink buying that mech pack this coming sale weekend).

My ping was around 82 to the Oceanic server last time I logged on, now it's 382. (from Japan)

Just for the record I didnt mind playing on Oceanic (all 3 servers checked) if I got a match in it, but now ping for me it just too bad. So Oceanic is UNCHECKED.
I shall only be playing on US/EURO here on out, unless things get better. (Not holding my breath)

I hope ping for you guys on Oceanic are much better for you overall. Good luck!

"i can't play at these pings"

"this is going to hurt me when i play lights"

"this is going to affect my precision play"

etc etc.

Wow, how good are the australian and new zealand player base, we must have the best players in the world and now we have a great ping we'll be pulling off 6 headshots a game, yeehaa. Or as i predict and as it is being shown, there is no difference really at all, i still hit pretty much where i aim and move in the same manner at the same speed around the battlefield. Having a high ping doesn't suddenly make you bad at positional play does it? Which is really what this game lives and dies on.

As for the lights question, will my light play be affected by high ping, probably, what you'll find is your survivability might increase as you gain the fabled power of lag shield (no not really, but i've seen it claimed), you'll still be able to gut assaults, though you might lose a couple of light v light fights, probably the ones you were going to lose anyway.

Having said all that, i think it will go back if they can't get the routing to go to SEA rather than NA -> SEA. Honestly i play most of my games on the NA server anyway so we should all just meet there and enjoy 200-250 ping together.

I noticed this too, and if they can't fix the routing issue they need to go back ONLY because rubber banding is worse than just general high ping issues. If it was just a bit of high ping like 250-300 i'd tell you all to get used to it, when it hits that rubber banding phase that affects all of us.

From Italy my ping with Oceanic server has increased from 270 to 450, that's a pity because i cannot use this server anymore but if that improve the asian and oceanic players game experience i can survive with only EU and NA; anyway it would be nice to have some feedbacks from European and West America players too.

I don't mind a high ping game once in a while. It's not so much about high(er) ping as it is unstable ping. Most people can learn to play at pings up to 300 if it's steady. Not optimal by any chance, but it's manageable...

Why is the matchmaking pulling on a oceanic server if 21 out of the 24 people have a ping of 400+? Both battles I've played on the oceanic have been like that(well, in the second, a couple people dropped to the 300's for a while.) with mech's rubber banding, shots actually hitting, but not blipping the crosshair red(it was a killing blow), etc. I could understand if roughly half the people got better ping. This though doesn't seem to make sense. So It's been unchecked.

I've seen a lot of comments like: I'm unchecking Oceanic servers, and people putting up screen shots of bad pings except for a few players. One guy that posted all negatives hadn't even played the game since the changes made an assumption on having bad ping because of other posts he had read and proceeded to b*tch about it. Well guess what the shoes on the other foot now, I've always had EU deselected because ping was 350+. When I was on last night I changed my selection from OC & NA to OC only and I was getting relatively quick drops for Mid week and it was 50/50 roughly for people having 100 or less ping. The other potential benefit is returning AUS/NZ players which from what I've seen and experienced that could be a significant number. Prior to this change best ping I ever had across all servers was around 180, last night it was 30 - 40 and it was glorious! Almost forgot thankyou PGI!

I hope it makes sense for them to keep it that way, I really do. I won't be playing on it, just like If I was in AU I wouldn't check a server to play on 400+MS wherever it was. If they hosted it in canada and I got 400MS ping, i'd uncheck it there too. Nothing against you guys. Not saying it's right, just my feelings on it.

Simple for me, started MWO eons ago with 250+ ping, on NA and in FW...now I'm just going back to my roots :D

Unchecking the oceanic server, until they fix routing issues with their data center.
