It looks like you need a bit of practice... How often do you use the Academy to test your builds to see how much damage they can do before overheating in each of the 3 temperature zones, and adjust your weapon groups accordingly?
Also, as I suggested elsewhere, run Terra Therma in the Training Grounds a lot, (preferably in an energy build that can alpha at least 50 damage for IS, 60 for Clan) and give yourself 30 seconds to kill each enemy from the time you first see them. (if you fail, assume you died) This will improve your heat management, aiming, and speed your kill rate. Just play it once each time you log on if you don't want to spend too much time practicing against stationary targets. The Academy challenges are also very useful.

Good advice. I am using Tourmaline Desert,Crimson Straights and Solaris City on the test grounds to test any and all builds.

How many people did, after reading that comment, race off to check their average match scores to find out whether they are dangerous? I know I did. Guess I am not, though.

TBH even between 300 score players and 400+ the difference is like day and night... im decent but i will loose on em every time.
Thats why i usually avoid qp, not being able to carry enough to secure wins like the top 1% and still having too does rise my salt levels at the point i just go Grp que or faction

Believe it or not, getting to 400 average MS for a season will put you in the top 75 players. 500+ is for the top 3 players. If you're getting 250+, you're reliably dangerous. (I only get 250+ average when I run builds I'm comfortable with, 350+ when I'm also lucky)
Note though that these scores cover both QP and Group... Group is MUCH easier, and I respect a pure-PUG that can get 300+ way more than a group-only that can get 400+.

Well getting high scores in qp is easyer than in grp que, at least if u r running with good people.
Then u will be lucky hitting 300 cause the Enemy dies before u can put enough dmg out.

If i would make a new account so I could play in tier 5 again, then probably i would notice something.

Good adivice. I alway test my builds in Caustic Valley. If it s too hot i change it.
On some rare occasions i dont, like if i am going full fire support a do some crazy build like 6 heavy med piranha.

Second best is Medium, where I have 2 mastered Mechs I play regularly (and trying to skill a Huntsman). Best is Heavy. Which is surprising to me, because I thought for sure it would be Mediums. I guess that's only because I have not done enough matches with the Roughneck to suck enough. But then, he is almost done being skilled, at 90 skillpoints...
However, I prefer to play the Blackjack, it is almost the same build as the Roughneck.
But then, I realised, no matter what my MS average is, I am always dangerous... Mostly to myself, though, I guess.

I bet I die first in 50-60% of my matches.

There is no control over that in QP, and is so rare that it makes it impressive that you can ever get that as an AVERAGE, not just as a single-match score.
MiZia, on 23 May 2018 - 05:53 AM, said:
Not as common as you might think in Group. Group generally has one person leading the strategy, and one person getting the most out of the match. I routinely get 400+ in Group in mechs I'm barely comfortable with, but have trouble keeping above 300 in QP when in my best mechs. (and it's all because of the teammates)

It's both better and worse than that. 500+ is top 16 right now. But just getting >300ms avg. across your career is enough to be in the top 2% of players. If you're new and thinking that that can't possibly be right, have some samples of high-quality T1 QP gameplay:
That's your bar to beat. That's what you see in a good 70%+ of matches which are full of people who, even if they aren't the greatest players, should at least have enough experience to do 200 damage in a 'mech capable of alpha-striking for 60+ before they die. In T1 it's a regular sight for 25% of the people in a match to not break 100ms, and for another 25% to not break 200ms.
If you want to be above average in MWO, all you need to do is focus on staying alive and dealing damage long enough to break 200ms. That's, on average, going to take about 250-350 damage (depending on how much MS you accrue for other actions like killing LRMs, shooting down UAVs, spotting assists, &c.).

MS itself solely depends on your personal performance. PSR and payouts are what are affected by W/T/L.

I am not suicidal but my Clan Mechs or Omnimechs are. I die in most matches. Those I survive I usually get a crap score as the enemy got chewed before I got there or a great score cause I was ignored. When I die I walked into the wrong neighborhood or went down swinging and took one to two with me.

I always have to be in front for some reason. But the SECRET to getting kills is to make it to the end of the match. I often wonder if you took those games away, what my stats would be, lol.

My average score is under 200 so I need a win. It pisses me off when someone says how much damage they got in a lost match.
