Thing is it isn't a big enough difference to dissuade hide in a trench gameplay.

Being close and looking where you are firing is obviously the best use even now, but I think that needs to be coupled with faster locks the closer you are, maybe better spread at closer ranges. SOMETHING that makes it a lot more worthwhile to move up instead of sitting in a trench.

Right now there isn't a real reason for your lrm-tato to push up, because selfish play is still netting those peeps higher scores. Those sort of people are only going to see their DMG and think "I helped." That is the problem with LRMs and LRMboat exclusive players in general.

And you can still be better with mostly lrms then 95% of the playerbase.

If you would shoot better and kill faster,
the lrm users would not have the opportunity to do lots of damage.

You're probably too far in the back to get targeted by LRMs.

You'd be surprised how close and upfront I get..

it all depends on the situation.. but yeah.. if you stay way back, you will get ripped apart by lights.. best to stay with the group..

I'm just saying.. I don't really die to LRMs alot.. but have lots of kills with LRMs..

Also, just a tidbit of info for you guys...

As awesome as LRM assaults (even the Awesome) are, have you tried a Timberwolf or Sun Spider LRM boat?

Slightly smaller tube count (4xLRM15 only), but omg, the speed! You can actually get away from danger..

Timibies have always been awesome..

Polar High domination is the ugliest thing that could happen to you in QP atm.
One enemy light pokes out from behind the ridge and you get reminded of the scene from 300 where Leonidas looks up at the sky, which is darkened by persian arrows. In this case, LRMS.
I remember in one particular match on Polar domination, only i had ECM in the team, in my Thanatos. I was staying near the ridge in the cap zone, but not too close, i loved it when i looked at the minimap to see everyone gathering around me for ECM protection. Posted Image

Lets face it. Its because they are extreme low effort.

I don't know of any other multiplayer games that allow the weapon equivalent of a golf handicap in them.

I think in context, he means with the LRMer's LOS. I think this was suggested years ago, but was shot down.

Yea, that's probably a fair statement. They are a very low skill, high risk / high reward weapon. A bad player can do decently well with LRM's on an LRM friendly map, so of course they just always pick them instead of picking direct fire weapons where they always do poorly because they can't aim for beans.

I was just commenting on being closer to the minimum range, rather than the out extents of 900m (what most LRM boats seem to do).

I do agree that direct line of sight/getting your own locks should result in better performance, even without Artemis. However, I will comment that, though not a direct "better" such as tighter spread or something, you do actually get better results when you get your own locks and gauging distances, arch, cover, etc. (Also, if you took skills such as Adv Decay, then that will also kick in for your own locks.)

First of all, it seems to me that the assumption that "most lurmers sit 900 meters away" is simply wrong.. most Lurmers sit 600-ish meters away.. At least those higher than T4..

Secondly, as a Lurmer, I see no reason why I would be close and on the front line.. I've been in countless situations that from a good spot, I can literally hit any enemy on the map, and often do. Locks provided, LRMs are just effective if they hit a target 800 meter of 300 meters away. Sure, it's harder to hit someone further out, but on some maps, like Polar or Grim Plexus, you really don't need to be close in.

On other maps you do.. so I'm just saying.. don't judge someone who's lurming from 800 meters away.. on some maps.. they don't need to get closer.

And even if they do.. Personally, I would rather fire at the enemy knowing I will not hit, but forcing him to keep his head down and run for cover while I move up, than not.

Not all shots are intended to hit. Some are pure suppression. And I often have more than enough ammo to spare.

Full forum of players bashing LRM's and lurmers praising LRM's, lurmers and everything about LRM's Posted Image It's funny, really. Some posts even go as far as "lurms require good positioning, concentration, effort, dedication" and all kinds of ********. Hahahaha! Fooking hell!
Fact is lurms are absolutely low skill weapons and way too powerful for the effort it takes to run lurm boat. Press one mouse button, sometimes move a bit and on most matches 600 - 800 dmg even before buffs.
I absolutely have no idea wtf PGI is doing buffing LRM's, makes no sense.

Did you read the patchnotes?

Clan lrms need more time and ammo to kill now.
the heatbuff is eaten by needing to throw more missles to get the same result,
its a clan lrm nerf.

The worst thing about lrm heavy teams is they get face rolled easily by a direct fire enemy team when that enemy team is smart enough to advance and use cover. Then again the lrm warning can cause psychological effects and make a direct fire team camp long enough for your own team's direct fire units to close in. Over five years playing and lrming I've seen and played in matches where a lone lrm boat was the deciding factor simply because the other team was so scared of the lrm they didn't want to leave their 'safe' spot.

Buffing LRMs is dumb.

1. It promotes static gameplay

2. It kills brawling because you can be sure that if you engage someone close 3 LRM boats will have a lock on you and destroy you

3. It f* light mechs hard because speed doesn't help because they have to disengage all the time while being shot at.

4. Now the LRM assault boats are back. I just had a match were 3 LRM assaults were sitting in the back not sharing armour or anything. Fuuuuuuuuun!

Please keep up that "great" gameplay then the game is soon done.

No, not in QP. Heavies and assaults do not push. They sit mostly in one place while the team gets dismantled. When they do not push forward but do nothing but hide lights and meds are the first to die. But hey, that doesn't matter. After all the heavies and assaults still got their scores because they had their meat shields.
This I just learned from 4 QP matches. I have just quit now because I was fuming. Playing a light mech with short range weaponry and no ecm is idiotic and simply no fun. What good is speed when you cannot use it because as soon as you engage or are seen you can run off into cover lololololololol

Ah well, lock on weapons in a shooter...no comment

The only weapon system in this game I legit hate are streaks, not because lol no skill, but because I like 20 ton mechs. :P

Mistake No.1 - Mechwarrior games are NOT shooters. Unreal is a shooter. Quake is a shooter. COD is a shooter.

Mechwarrior is a combat simulator. Kinda like space simulators, but you know.. with giant robots.

Lock on weapons are modern combat simulation - If you want a shooter, play Doom.
