We are talking about a regimental sized, well trained and well equipped fighting force fielding the latest hightech. And they choose to go with the Brigand!
Also, considering the relations to the WoB it is quite possible that some Brigands were upgraded with toys from the WoB arsenals. (This would, btw., explain a SNPPC which is otherwise not available for pirates. So we can have a SNPPC variant).

Further proff of the Brigand's awesomness.

To be fair, unless there are some substantial quirks for other weapon types, an IS Mech of that tonnage has little choice but to boat lasers. Mass MG might be possible (theoretically) but pales in comparison to the Clans. And the SRM4 nerf hit the lights hard. Perhaps some SRM2s... not sure.
PGI unfortunatly has a history of nerfs which diminish the number of viable options for a light. Maybe I am too pessimistic though.

Yeah it seems boating lasers is the only serious build option. Thankfully the Brigand does it well.

I think you could go with 4x SRM2, 2x JJ, and XL225. Might be a little short on ammo, but the X2 can do it. On some maps, that might be a really dangerous harasser using the jump capability and the front loaded damage. Unfortunately, the X2 has all the weapons in the arms...
I personally hope for PPC quirks for the X3. Give me one super quirked ERPPC or SNPPC (plus bigger engine)... not overly effective, but fun once in a while.
In the end, yeah, it comes down to laser boating.
