In lore, I read that the Brigand has weak back armor on purpose to ensure that no pirates run away easily from battle. I wonder how that will work in game? I mean a single hit with a light ppc or srm would kill it.

If that's true, it's a non-factor in this game, due front armor and back armor being treated as one value. You would just throw more back armor if it came stock with really low back armor, you just add some.

Yeah, that is true. So the weak back armor wouldn't be that big of an issue.

Boggles my mind that this didn't happen rather than the IMPROBABLE assault.

To be fair, 95t did have room for more chassis, even in lore. However it's also true that 25t is the only tonnage that has just one chassis per side.

MW:5, basically... The Brigand is an FCCW-era unit, and MW:5 features the late Succession Wars. Since the Fafnir every new IS Mech had to have at least one SW-era variant so that it can be used in MW:5, limiting the options.

But I hope to see more Clan Invasion and FCCW Mechs in the future.

Some hero variant sketches: first is something like 8xLMGs boat and second is my idea of giving it some high mounted right torso energy hardpoint and center torso missile, for the price of one arm hardpoint, with stock LPPC SRM4 3xERSML.Posted Image

BTW, Fed0t has more artwork in this thread and a Deviantart as well so go give him a follow and favorite his stuff because as we can all see, he's super talented.

Are you sure you want to do that? I mean "Pirating is Stealing" afterall. Would you steal a car? Would you steal a baby? Why would you steal a movie? :P

Haha well then just be one of the Periphery state Brigands. (Still this reference is great.

Yes, the Marian Hegemony had adopted the Brigand by 3067 (FM:U). The other Periphery states followed quickly; the Circinus Federation and the Taurians fielded it during the Jihad. Of course, regular merc commands also noted the qualities of the Brigand.

It is quite simple: what makes the Brigand a good pirate Mech also makes it a good Mech for any other cash-strapped force which has to rely on minimal logistics. And that means the Periphery states as well as most mercs. Yes, Steiner's Royal Guards or Davion's BoG would not be too interested, and they could allow themselves the luxury of despising a Mech if they wanted. But if you spend your life's savings on a Mech, or if your state is as stable as a Cold War African country, you want a Mech that always works.
That's why this Mech became rather popular.

Granted, that's not relevant for a game in which we can field extinct Mechs like it is nothing, but then... there are the gameplay factors, and they make the Brigand an even better choice. It's the perfect marriage of a good MWO-Mech and Mech that has a great lore (kind of a rare combination, unfortunately).

Home from Chile and I've updated the OP with Fed0t's gorgeous artwork!

Also don't forget to follow the various artistis on Deviantart as their individual pages are linked in the OP above their respective artworks.

And yes, I still highly support the idea.

Looks like you got yourself a late Christmas present :)

Considering what this guy did with the Nightstar-art, I must say I am quite exited about his take on the Brigand, the Lightray and the others.

(Although seeing this beautiful rendition of a Nightstar and its geometry makes me sad when I compare it to what we actually got in MWO...)
