clear no for me. combine lrms with direct fire weapons and you have much more influence on a battle anyway.

So now we've hit the point where some people are defending their unwillingness to try and improve.

My question is how is it even humanly possible to play the same game and maps and mechs for 1000s of matches and not even improve by accident?

Are you wiping your mind with intense drugs, psychotherapy, blunt force trauma, after each playing session?

After?

No. During.

In all seriousness though, I think in SQ you have a duty to try and perform to the best of your abilities as possible.

Did I say that you didn't use LRMs? I don't recall that. I said it wasn't a concern that was brought up. If it is truly a concern and you feel like you were cheated you should definitely bring it up.

You were forced to use LRMs last year because they made you play in Stock Mechs, LOL. What an insult to your skill that must have been. Stock Mechs come with LRMs. Did you guys use LRMs in any year before?

I don't think there is one meta build that includes LRMs. Feel free to correct me, I'm frequently wrong about things I don't care about.

I don't see the masses from QP flooding the forums with nerf LRM posts. Mostly because they don't care. What I see is comp players, sad because their friends left the game forcing them to play in QP to get a decent wait time. Those same comp players are now trying to turn QP into something it's not. It's the Derp Que you play your crazy builds in. The one you level mechs in. The one you test insane builds in. It's the one that's still fun, probably why it still has players. Most of that fun being nobody is telling you what you can bring and how you should play. The Nascar is real, no matter how stupid it is they still do it. Most would probably resent anyone trying to tell them that they shouldn't.

I'm not advocating a play style I don't like either. I'm saying each to his own.

That video is recent, from the latest comp league MoR, which is not stock only. Top tier teams have brought LRMs to nuke each other because thats how easy it has become.

So, I don't know about you guys, but I think that not being able to lock a mech 300 meters away in IDF or a mech in ECM, is ridiculous.

You wanted Lurmes move closer and forward.. is 300m still to far for using LONG RANGE missiles?

Come on PGI..

You over-nerfed.. please bring IDF more in line with their intended role..

NO DON'T BUFF the indirect lock time.

...However if you still really want lock on buffs, rather than directly buffing LRM lock times; instead why not buff TComps and make it so they buff all missile lock times (streaks and LRMs) against ECM as a factor of the TComp size? ...

As far as I know, lock-on time is dependant of the range to target and your sensor range. Guess what, TC and BAP/CAP increase your sensor range.

Process:

Step 1: start buff lrms thread
Step 2: block anyone who disagrees in the thread
Step 3: a few days later start new buff lrms thread

And Vellron, we got it : you like LRMs, but please, just stop the nonsense .
No amount of PGI-sided EZmode for LRMs will make you improve or even get close to proper players .
Just deal with it, move on or finally improve .

Somehow I can't really blame him. I mean, look at assault and heavy players. As soon as there is a good medium or (god forbid!) light mech, they flood the forum with salt until these mechs get nerfed. I mean, why learn to aim and think about what you shoot (legs) when you can cry your little heart out on the forum and get your will.

Magpi,

Why should players work to improve? Because you or others think they should? If they just want to run around shooting stompy robots shouldn't they be allowed and not harassed?

What makes it your or anyone else's business? Are you paying them hourly to play the game giving you authority to tell them how to play?

Nerfing LRMS into oblivion or removing them from the game will eliminate the fun some people have. How can doing that be wanting them to have fun?

I believe that most comp players want others to have fun. The ones that want to remove other peoples fun are the ones I have issue with.

Why someones should improve? Simply because it is very satisfactory to get better in doing something.

So basically, you're asking if we can imagine just blending in, being like everyone else, jacks of all traits but masters of none, and using what ever is the current meta?

As a person that is highly specialized in my field in real life - no. I don't like mediocrity, cookie-cutter-ness, meta, or doing something just cose' everyone else is doing it..

If I did, I would not be playing a niche game like MWO, would I?

So this is a bit late, but as I just found this thread, I wanted to comment on this post.

Despite trying to proclaim yourself as specialist, you are in fact the furthest from it. This game is full of individuals who exclusively play LRMs. So while you don't play top tier meta, you are certainly a mediocre, cookie cutter, meta user. Top tier players have already proven that LRMs can be used effectively, so if you are having issues, the problem is not with the weapon system.

I know that, but I said "against ECM". Kinda would make sense that a stronger computer (than just the 'small' unit inbuilt to the cockpit) would be able to sort through the electronic garble thrown out by ECM.

And look at the modern battlefield. Most teams have multiple ECM mechs. Then there's the super-fast lights, which are near impossible to lock just cose' it's impossible to hold the reticle near-dead center for the thingy to start spinning. So you have to wait until the enemy comes very close, just a few hundred meters, at which point.. you're better off not having LRM, but ATM.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the lock cone revert to pre-nerf size, and nodes in the skill tree to reduce locking time. Nerfing long range indirect fire hasn’t affected me much, and the sight lock bonuses combined with the Artemis spread bonus have been a net quality of life increase for tactical LRM users, though LRMs are so spready even with full bonuses that unless you’re filling a role in a drop, you’re going to be situational. I get my best results with light, fast, jump-jet equipped laser carriers now.

I can say that with most of the electronics skill tree filled in it seems to be easier to LRM up close. And the lock time reduction with a sight lock makes a big difference. I was in a brawl on Frozen City Classic Night tonight, in a Viper M vs. a Flea-20, and the Flea driver was good. We were dancing around each other at full throttle and he was good enough that I couldn’t hit him with my lasers reliably. I took the fight vertical and was able to lock him with my SSRM6, and that made all the difference. So it is possible to lock on the run. It takes practice and it’s not easy, but it’s possible.

Down for this, if they reverse last years giga-buffs.

On the weakest weapon in the game...??? Wow. I bet you all would have a nervous breakdown if PGI nerf'd auto canon speed and/or increased jam chances...... Or, laser duration increases. Or, reducing heat sink capabilities.... All I've seen out there are laser heavy mechs that alpha and then, have to take a nap because they run sooooooooooo hot....

Yeah, that's skill alright.....relying on everyone else to cover you during your 11 times a game nap..... I counted during the last event and 11 was the most I saw as I follow that assault around............covering in butt with Streaks when the Flea's and PIR's came to eat him and his over heat buddies....

Your arguments against missiles "holds no water".......considering the meta nonsense going on with laser and ballistic weapons.... The weakest weapons in the game scare the best players in the game.......why? Because, they'd have to give up 14-22 skill nodes and 2 tons on their mechs.......wow.

Wait a minute. Do you have to lock a laser? Or, an autocannon? How is the stabilization system always on for them? Oh, that's right, brawling weapons are "aimed" and work all of the time....... Aimed, seriously? The reticle touches the target and it is instantly hit by the laser (speed of light, right?) So, when you are at what, 50 feet I guess missing is pretty hard.......

You do realize that there are older and handicapped players playing this game.....right? Yes, I am disabled. And yes, the new lock on makes it a lot harder to play this game.... No, I get my locks well enough and I'd like the old system better because I can then focus on situational awareness versus "running around trying to stay on a moving target I should have had a lock on a minute ago !" The lock on nerf was designed to speed up the game.....nothing more, nothing less.... And, it isn't helping me play a minute more or causing me to spend another penny to PGI......

Some of us aren't comp players and a few of us "do our best" and that isn't a reason to "get rid of anyone...." when, the population is so low.........and, about to get even lower when MW5 drops.......

What? Lasers and ballistics have been nerfed more than once, in one way or another. Just in December with the advent of ST loss/heat spike that was a nerf as those builds when used aggressively are near heat cap.

I'm fairly certain I took no naps yesterday, I only played two games, similar results in each.

I'm pretty sure no one was covering me.

This game above is the absolute inverse of what Velleronlurmamon want to see. He want's to be able to sit behind his team with no intent of ever carrying anything or actively contributing to a win through learning the damn game.

We may have different ideas of fun, but that doesn't mean that what he wants is good for the game.

In the name of being fair and equitable to Vellron.

I ran a LRM mech tonight. First time in quite a while. I did it live, on stream, for all to see... on HPG Manifold.

1408dmg / 3 Kills / 4 KMDD

OVERALL
BREAKDOWN

If you stop being a parasite and get your own locks. LRMs are fine. IDF, DF, whatever.

The point: Stop the parasitic "get me locks" attitude and start exposing. Simple.

it's because you're a toxic player. Once you reach a certain level of toxicity PGI uploads a patch to your game that automatically keeps the circle in the box. For good fun loving non toxic people it's practically impossible
