Sniping requires you to aim, that’s the difference.

i think all high level play is focused on long range, back before the summoner got its PPC quirk nerfed, it was a meta mech for tournaments with its fembot 2 ERPPC build, if you watched the tournament game play you see plenty of PPCs being shot across the map.

also there is no weapon in the game that has 1000+ effective range, I use to do a triple ERLL build for sniping, while I could hit targets from way across the map, at the end of the match my damage was pretty abysmal, it’s not as good as you think.

though something I noticed about long range weapon though, it is a very effective psychological weapon, being hammer repeatedly by something like a lbx2 from range forces people to duck for cover, this can be useful for suppression.

Mostly true. Very few builds have an optimal range at 1000+ meters, and they are normally mechs you wouldn't consider nowadays, but they are there.

Okay, then what about all those players I see shooting dirt with their weapons, or an allies backside because they failed to realize that their arm mounted weapons are blocked?

There are a lot of bad players in this game. This isn't news.

I guess that knowing the positions of your weapons paths isn't a skill?

About the same as tying one's shoes.

View PostTesunie, on 03 April 2020 - 02:34 PM, said:

As I said that was one example. Very similar to direct fire weapons, except it isn't just in front of the weapon's location you need to worry about, but also the arch your missiles will travel and their travel times.

Except with "direct fire" weapons you actually have to hit a target inside the box. With LRMs all you have to do is not shoot all of them into a mountain.

Rifleman IIC-2 hits 1100 + optimal with AC2

If only LRM mechanics had been setup such that it provided opportunities for a high skill ceiling, giving operators the ability to manually determine LRM flight path. And you know, actually developed LRMs with some real physics and an actual LATAX budget.

You see the way people get excited about fantastic smoke/flash/grenade throws? That could've been a thing with LRMs. But anyway, this game is in maintenance mode now, no way that any kind of overhauls like that will be happening.

Only some maps in the most recent MWOWCS were dominated by long range. A lot of maps were more focused on mid-range. And brawl rushes had a prominent spot both in qualifying matches for the Grand Finals and the Grand Finals. Long range is strong, and high level teams tend to do it more and better than less able teams, but it's not at all the only way to play at the top level.

The Summoner is still top tier heavy for high level comp play, we just run 3 ERPPC now

It does.

But do does UACs and SRMs etc. Aim is aim.

You will not see purely ERPPC in all high level comp. It depends on the actual comp, format etc. You can absolutely see brawling in high level comp.

I often ran an Atlas (even in free-mechlab comp) and basically 'delivered the packages'. Simply do no damage but tank 500dmg+. Did it plenty at the highest level against the best players. Many factors involved.

So says the person who intentionally shot a teammate in another linked video above, and then insulted the player simply because of the build they brought. Didn't matter if they did well in it or not that match, you already made your mind up about them before an engagement even happened...

But go right on ahead.

Oh, some leg damage made it certain that a LRMer didn't perform to his highest potential. Let's start a #MeToo movement for LRMers.

Oh boo hoo, 4 leg damage from a pulse. I'm sure if that didn't happen, he'd have carried the game. Posted Image

You intentionally shot an ally. Doesn't mater the amount of damage. Then you verbally abused the person afterwards.

Has anyone read the CoC?

Okay, I included a "we" in this factor. This was for good laughs no matter what. Are you going to spit the same non sense and tell me this wasn't remotely funny to you?

You can rail on all day about these toxic top tier gaggers. Haven't seen anything moderated properly in weeks. Nothing going to be done. Inmates running the asylum now.

Funny? Sure.

Among friends? Okay, maybe.

To do that to strangers simply because "they took LRMs" and then insult them after? Not so funny and not okay.

You've got that backwards. It's the eejits who complain about others instead of worrying about their own shortcomings that need to be moderated. If PGI had done this from the start, the population would still be alive since they could play with friends, the mechs and weapons would still be good instead of catering to people who keep saying, "That's OP!", "I didn't see that laser taking my ST off. Lasers OP" and other bs like that.

anyone who is pewww pewwing lasers from 800m+ in quick play is a hero (or an idiot) to me. pretty much asking to get eaten by lights / mediums / everyone else.

Its actually hard to skill up a sniper mech by actually sniping (takes too long) in QP. Much easier to build a brawler/skirmisher to win the nascar fests
