So many choices!!!! Well being a Fedsuns pick i would say-

Light: Javelin (or the Fire Javelin variant), Valkyrie, or Locust (most produced Mech ever along with the Wasp)
Medium: Enforcer, Centurion, Blackjack, Wolverine, or Dervish (maybe a Clint or Whitworth)
Heavy: Rifleman, Jagermech, Crusader-D, Warhammer 6D, T-bolt (Light Horse version with the jump jets), and Archer
Assault: Victor, Battlemaster, Atlas, Stalker, or Banshee-S (if I could get it in trade from our Fedcom Steiner allies)

Some of these models would be more or less common in Davion units, but almost any design can be found somewhere :P. I would imagine we start with tech and 'Mechs from TRO:3025, working up to the recovered tech seen in TRO:3050 and thereafter. And give us the unseen, even if they have to be reimagined!!!! If you don't use the old images swiped from anime it should be all clear !!

Of course, past 3055 and 3057 lots of designs started rolling out, and even newer models and new production sites of older designs, so GIVE US AS MANY MECHS AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!

I would say a 40t for each house or merc faction you start with would be enough. a heavy or assault right at the start takes a bit of that shiny nimbus of those machines. Everyone wants to pilot a heavy machine once or twice later, so working for it and sparing up some C-Bills would turn out in a much bigger satisfaction then having one right at the start.

Capellan Confederation: Clint
Draconis Combine: Cicada
Free Rasalhague Republic:
Free Worlds Leabue: Hermes II
Federated Suns: Sentry
Lyran Comonwealth: Sentinel
Merc: Any of those

I have none for rasalhague and I tried to chose them like I see them to be equal in their abillity and combat value.
Maybe you guys correct me if I'm misstaken =D
I think a 40t Mech with a Autocanon aswell as one or two medlasers is more then enough fun to get start with and get known to Mechcombat. More lightly scouts, combatants and all those specialized mechs may be bought with unlocked skills and such.

Commando or Wasp are the only logical choices for a starter mech

Light: A- raven
B-cicada--if can put some electronics on it...

Medium: A- Hunchie--versatility
B- Black Jack-Like the load outs
C- Shadow--Not as much punch as the Hunchie but more versatile on electronics

Heavy: Marauder--cause i can kill anything with it...

Assault: BattleMaster--Good Command Mech for a battle line lance if you use the right variant...

I don't know about as a "default" 'mech, but I really would like to see the Dervish included in this game. It's fantastic companion to Enforcers and Centurions; very nicely balanced for both fire support and short range skirmishing.

Ill be going the scout path.

Id personally want to do scounting and hit and run harrasment of forces. If avalible id probably focus on jamming and stealth style mods to disrupt enemy communications and be able to go undetected for longer. I think it would be neat if there were mods that say jammed the ability to lock on targets you dont see with LRMs unless they are within a certian range....or limited the ability for the enemy to broadcast your forces positions on the map and hud of their lancemates. so basically hit and run electronic warfare.

Im leaning towards the Jenner due to the number of weapons, jump jets, and small profile.

I do however really really really like the Cicada. If the 3M is avalible for play (which seems like it would be as the version in the offical art work is the 3M), then that should have plenty of power with the UAC allowing for a limited hard alpha when you have to get the job done. The only thing im worried about is the profile. Since the Cicada is only 5 tons more than the jenner i dont think it would be much bigger. If the Cicada is right around the size as heavier mediums...im going for a jenner. The increased size with the lack of jump jets....not good for a lightly armored scout.

If they ever EVER put in melee im getting a commando and putting a hatchet on there and hacking enemy legs out....just because.

Ill also probably try out a heavy for the times I just want to unwind and blow stuff up. I would say an assault mech but those are too slow.

I'm probably going to go the same route you are. What I like about the Cicada is that with an XL engine you can mount some decent weapons and still maintain the speed.

Just wondering if the 3C will be avalible. PPC on a scout? Reach out and touch someone!

8/12 movement speed with a PPC sounds pretty brutal, and I recall reading somewhere that the devs stated that a PPC could be made to work on the Cicada. I'm not sure if we're getting the T2 version of the Cicada or the T1, but I'm looking at my 3050 TR and by stripping all the equipment you can comfortably fit two large lasers with tonnage left over for extra armor.

Speed, protection, and no ammo so you can be a persistent annoyance on the battlefield for as long as you want. With the large lasers you're a very real threat in a flanking maneuver with enough range to stay away from trouble.

Yeah, Mad Cat is not in the Inner Sphere, yet. It's a noob's mech, anyway, lacking any disadvantages.

Oh, and just a reminder, Raven can't (by no means) be a Davion starter mech. You know why.

Actually it can, too bad your Capellan pilots lost so many to us. perhaps if your mechwarriors were better the confederation would not be so small.

Perhaps if one stupid author didn't mistake the Davions for America (which is FWL, actually), we wouldn't be in such bad shape.

But still, only Ravens you have are the ones 4th SW veterans brought back home and they got reffited with LL instead of all the electronics.

I've played the game off and on since the floppy disk days. I'm more of a fanboy so I dont really recall what house uses what mechs.

Looks like my fav mechs are from opposing houses so I dont know. Fav mediums are hunchback hellhound and shadowcat. Fav light is Wolfhound.

Of the Davion mechs listed I like the Victor.
