trust me I know what try hard is
so what is sportsmanship
https://www.merriam-...y/sportsmanship
Definition of sportsmanship
: conduct (such as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport
sportsmanship is how you conduct yourself
old people would say have a little class
when you type GG or GG close at the end of a match when it was OBVIOUSLY not a good game or even close
is poor sportsmanship
its a back handed insult its a bald face lie
and that is way a lot of people dont like it
saying man we wrecked you lol
that would be more acceptable because it would not be a lie
My last trip to Iraq I had to pull aside some of the young troops and
explain what the golden rule is they had never heard of it
so I am doing something similar hear
I am not trying to pick a fight

TFTM = Thanks for the match.
GG = Good game.
Quote
If you won and you're the first to comment on the match:
Use TFTM - saying GG is basically saying "I had a good time beating you" and disregards the opponents feelings about the match be they positive or negative. TFTM is neutral.
If you lost and you're the first to comment on the match:
Feel free to say GG - Even though you lost you can still say if you enjoyed the match. If you didn't enjoy it, at least TFTM/ acknowledge their win, it shows sportsmanship.
If you won and you're the second to comment on the match:
If they say GG feel free to GG back, if not saying TFTM is appropriate. If your opponent hasn't acknowledged enjoying the match it's just rude to admit you enjoyed it to their detriment.
If you lost and you're the second to comment on the match:
It's your choice, if you enjoyed the game you can GG, if you didn't TFTM is appropriate.

What if i genuinely thought each game was good? Rare is the match that I didn't think was good in parts.
Real life sports still say good game and shake hands at the end. Think of it like that if it helps you.

Good game? hardly, maybe 1 game out of 20-30 are actually good. I.e. not complete stomps, objectives rushed, decent trades, etc.
people throw these terms around so much its meaingless. just like o7. who the hell are you saluting? some fat middle aged guy with cheetos dust on his chin? cares.

One handshake other pure troll (but hey its internet)
If u cant accept or offer an handshake after a match u should read your own rules again.

If score is my team wins vs less than half my team dead (a.k.a. we wrecked them) - its "TFP" (thanks for playing)
if score is my team wins vs. more than half my team dead - its classic "gg"
If score is close to all my team AND enemy team dead, or very close in resources or time on the clock, regardless of win or lose - its ggclose (so only used when the game is close or tied, never as an insult)
If my team got wrecked - it's "WP" (Well played)
If my team lost, but killed more than half of the enemy team - classic "gg".
Simple, respectful, logical.

12-7 or closer gets a gg from me by default; otherwise gj in teamchat. Seems to be the most courteous way imo.
Capital GG means I'm dumb and forgot caps lock since that's still my voip hotkey!

Your team got shafted "gg" = ironic remark
Actual close and good game "gg"
Enemy team got shafted "gg" = ironic remark
If you playing a rompy stompy robot video game on the the internet... might not wanna take everything literally.

Just curious, did you and your boys rekt some iraqi sniper and the boiis threw a "ggclose gitgud" at the corpse? Found any Antrax?
This is an online video game not a warzone.
Beside, you don't need to educate the playerbase about proper sportmannship after a game.
Start to understand what folks mean with "gg" and you'll see that you see a problem where there is none.
"gg" isn't a backhand slap meant to insult you (mostly, exceptions excluded).

And yet, it so obviously, frequently gets used that way.
Take a stream I was watching last night.
The tradtion was "GG" after every kill, especially if the target died miserably. Not so much insult as fishing for provocation.

I'm guilty of not doing this sometimes, however.

I wouldn't even consider "GG" trash talking.
It's very basic courtesy.
The same like "gl hf" at the start of a match.
It's not like someone is getting butthurt and "NANI? does he think i NEED luck?! Does he implies i am that bad? Does he think i won't have fun if i don't have luck?!"
