Thank you Paul for finally implementing zero-sum PSR and Tier Reset.

My #FixPSR Mission is almost complete.

I Hope it works. Fingers crossed. But I'm pretty confident that combined with other changes, that have clearly worked as you wanted after tweaking, that this should finally be the solution to better 'match quality'.

Thankyou!

Reset it.

I'm not thrilled with the queue merge and think you all could communicate much better about how you have been tweaking the matchmaker, and what those charts actually mean. From where I'm sitting they seem too simplified/abstract to mean a whole lot.

Holy Cr@p!

You're finally getting around to doing this?!

What's this, 5-6 YEARS too late?

What's next? Getting rid of the "Ready" button?

Just DO IT already! Don't talk about it DO IT!

What you're saying here implies that you are not good enough to be tier 1, you should probably be tier 3 or 4 and stay in that tier, that way you're matched against pilots of a similar skill level more often.

Reset the tiers and keep them zero sum, get rid of the exp bar.

I’m good enough to be T1. I played long enough and gotten better with builds, learning hard points on mechs and learning how others play. I don’t belong in T4 or T3. Maybe T2. I have had players tell me they tell their team to find me and hunt me down first because I’m a threat on the battle field. They reset this I’ll quit [redacted]. There is no need to reset this late in the game with zero new mechs coming out anymore.
Groups have jacked up solo queue. 12-0 stomps because one side have 2 groups and the other does not. Or one team has 1 assault and zero groups and the other has 4 adults with a group of 4. Seen it happen.

So...what exactly is the definition of "zero sum" here? I am sure it is a common term used in other games, but what is it exactly,as they intend to apply it here.

Been saying for years that the PSR calculation needs to be revised. Win/loss needs to have MUCH less weight when determining movement on the PSR scale, if not no effect at all. I do think that someone on a losing team that does exceptionally well despite the loss could still have a positive PSR movement, and someone who does exceptionally poorly despite winning could still have a negative PSR movement. I think the PSR system should, more than anything else, measure PERSONAL performance (hence the "P" in Pilot Skill Rating), with winning/losing a match having little to no effect on that score. Tier 5 should reflect like the bottom 10% of performers, and tier 1 the top 10%. The vast majority of players should fall somewhere within tiers 2-4, based on their personal average performance. IMO yes, the MM system has its flaws that need to be addressed to create more balanced matches, while still keeping wait times down, but I believe that how PSR is calculated in the first place is a large part of that problem. Currently, a large percentage of players in T1 shouldn't be there at all, the only reason they are is because they've played for long enough. Their ranking doesn't reflect in any way their actual skill level.

EDIT: Resetting and making it "zero sum" is probably a step in the right direction, I guess I'd like to see a more exact definition of "zero sum."

Yes to resetting the PSR.

Can we also get back most of the mobility on the mechs that got completely screwed over by engine desync? You know, like the Timby and more?

I don't want to be T1, i just didn't have it in me to tank matches to get out of it.

Yeah at first with the combined queues I thought it was stompy but as of recent it has seemed more balanced and the wait times are better and it's good that some people in a match are coordinating if not everyone.

It's hard to give input on resetting the tiers because I don't know exactly what goes into PSR.... I think it'd work out fine but I wonder if there is a way to back up the current tiers just in case.

Reset the tiers, but until you actually share real data I don't trust a word you write. You and Russ clearly wanted this to begin with and you've been very cagey about actually telling us real results, but Russ gave up the game in his twitter posts. Since you don't have a clue about how the game plays these days, I simply don't trust your conclusions. You guys have simply been too deceptive too much in the past to be trustworthy. Share the real data - let us draw conclusions - I guarantee there are a lot of people that understand stats better than you do playing the game. It's the only way you'll earn any trust back.

I tend to agree with being open with data, but here's what I think would actually happen in this case:
  • The 2-3 actual data scientists on this forum would draw meaningful conclusions from the data and share them
  • 10-20 armchair statisticians would completely misinterpret the results and share their uninformed opinions
  • The other 99% of forumgoers wouldn't know which group is which (because armchair statisticians sound just like actual data scientists to a layperson) and would believe the majority opinion.

Something to consider. I applaud the sentiment though.

Reset them already. Players will always find something to complain about, if you want to sort out the really important points, filter the comments by how much money they spend. Otherwise its a free game so no expectations. If you want a long term player base then you need long term rewards. oh and get rid of the pointless ready button...
