Thank you for the play-by-play. Did you want to change your avatar to Howard Cosell?

No, it's not defeating by walls of text. It would be more desirable to invited into the discussion, rather than be dismissed flatly without evidence from a group that is clearly dominated by elite players. When I have drawn Bauer, Bowser, Yondu, and ASH to quash the conversation, it is not a flat earth analogy, but rather Galileo going up against the orthodoxy.

I'm pretty sure that Galileo would be able to figure out that IS MPLs are currently super strong if he had the opportunity, time, and inclination to learn about MWO.

I also find it strange that I'm being lumped in as part of the orthodoxy when I've helped bring some truly wacky strats and builds to comp. Like an mpl/laser vom/lrm rush deck on Alpine against EON, or a masc lrm60 Hellfire on Mining. Note: I'm not claiming full responsibility for either strat, but I was a part of making both happen either in planning, implementation, or both.

I'll let you know when I see one do better than average in qp.. and I'm not talking about the broken mechs that make MP's work by virtue of their crutchiness.. like some of the ones you mentioned..

Don't bother. I know how good IS mpls are, and that they can do work on a variety of chassis.

If your assertions about how the game is played are so consistently and incredibly wrong and you are so confident as to straight-up lie in the faces of the people questioning you about such assertions, how can you be trusted to have useful discussions with the larger group as a whole?

I find your 'david vs goliath' analogy to be particularly humorous, because the Cauldron is a group of people from all skill and experience levels (hardly the 'elite' that you and others have claimed it to be), who work together despite our individual differences of opinion and come to a consensus about all of our topics. As far as I can tell, you are argumentative just for the sake of arguing because you view yourself as 'the resistance' or 'the lone hero against the evil elite' or something of that nature, despite the fact that you have zero proof or evidence behind a single one of your arguments or 'counterpoints' stated on this forum besides "Hey guys it works for me", and "Hey guys I've been playing for 8 years, trust me I swear I know everything there is to know about this game trust me pls". This train of thought runs counterpoint to the entire philosophy of the Cauldron which revolves around figuring out why the mechanics of the game work the way they do via hard evidence and rigorous testing while putting away any assumptions or preconceptions of how those mechanics 'should' work. Then to figure out and agree upon an effective way to fix or change the mechanics or attributes which need editing.

If mp's were so good why do we hardly see them in qp/fp.. ? Lord knows most players (good and bad) love to exploit broken/strong weapons. Just saw a champion boating mp's.. barely broke 300.. bleah

You might be the exception but in most cases anyone boating mp's does mediocre.. unless in broken mechs like vulcan or k9.. maybe even cicada and uzie cuz these are able to flee. Due to their heat and limited range, mp's are NOT versatile.. not sure how you can think otherwise.

i see plenty of people running MPL wolfhounds, K9s, vulcans, jesters, phoenix hawks, etc. those are the premier MPL meta mechs, hence why they're the most common. it's the same with any weapon. how often do you see the average player using CERPPCs on anything other than a select few mechs?

additionally, i don't think their performance in the hands of your average player is very indicative of their actual power, because most aren't able to perform consistently well regardless of what they're using. by definition, the majority is going to be bad to mediocre.

I see hoardes of IS MPL any time I play.

To say it isn't happening is either lacking in observation/awareness or being purposefully ignorant.

Really late to the thread due to PC problems, but did anybody else have concern over nerfing the IS SSRM 4s and 6s? I have a couple 'mechs that use them to pretty good effect, but between the lock on times and abundance of ECM/Stealth currently in the game, I would not call them overpowered by any means. In fact, I hardly ever saw more than 1 or 2 'mechs per match using streaks compared to the plethora of autocannons, gauss, ERPPCs, lasers, and regular SRMS. Am I missing something?

Also, IS regular AC20 should be able to fire 2 at once without heat penalty again. 2x Heavy Gauss = 50 damage, 3xppc = 30 damage, 2x Clan ERPPC=30 damage, 2x Heavy PPC = 30 damage, and 2x Gauss = 30 damage. Why are IS AC20s with their range limitations still capped at 20 damage without heat spikes?

Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the changes in action though. Starting to crunch numbers between large lasers, ER large lasers, and large pulse lasers to potentially update several of my heavy and assault 'mechs.

I made what I hope is an interesting comment in a thread about streaks in general discussion. To reiterate my view, while it seems like a major nerf to IS streaks in practice it makes little difference. Streakboats should see some benefits in heat management thanks to the longer cooldown but its still a weapon system that is lacking in several aspects. e.g. Facetime/aiming requirements and HSL

I would like to see some streak improvements so maybe it's something that can be discussed provided we can avoid the hyperbolic statements like 'streaks delete lights in a single salvo' because frankly there's a number of boated weapons that can delete lights with one click, (U)AC20s, HGauss, Gauss, so it's not like lights don't have problems already.

This should prove to be a good test for the good folks at the Cauldron.. let's see if they'll listen to the little guy. So far I only see Cauldronites supporting the IS streak nerf while most others can't understand or justify it.. we shall see,,

I think there's also DATA and YEONNE (I'm not putting the silly spaces in their names that's just too much)

Any pilots below tier 1-2 should be the question asked.

Did someone really say the only way to get a 2 UAC5 and 2 UAC10 on a Sleipnir is to go down to a STD 225?

Just stop, and get some help.

I wanted to chime in and say that I've seen quite a few new players and also ones who are back after 2+ years which is great. It would seem like getting those new player packages out would be great right about now. There is a lot of excitement with the weapon changes, I think having some of these cool packages for new players would help them to get better mechs and ideally keep their interest.

My preliminary findings show that matches of 4min 30sec or less are becoming more common.. prior to patch matches under 4:00 were a rarity, now not so much.. uber short matches is the 'new norm'. Lights are definitely getting one shot more often.. not a good time to be a light pilot. When matches do drag on it's usually due to a ppc shc or spider. Yes some of the changes were needed.. but many were not..

Yes, notorious abusers made them overkill, but that was not due to their lock-on mechanics, but the unreal tube counts and PGI never addressed overboating itself, but screwed up missiles altogether.

And then leaned into the issue by creating their own apocryphal 'mech that comes stock with 100 tubes...

No second April dev vlog, no May dev vlog, and no early announcement of Cauldron changes or weapon adjustments to be put into the May patch.

Come on, PGI, you're already starting to slack on the communications. Don't keep repeating this inevitable self-destructive cycle.
