Please don't tell me that there are STILL people who actually think chainfire can increase DPS. That has never been a thing, not even with macros, simply holding the fire button will do just as much damage to the enemy.

If your holding the fire button on chainfire for those builds your doing it wrong. There are YouTube videos on it and I have the build, so yeah I believe what I see when I play, and when someone like me can get crazy damage using these builds something is wrong lol. Chainfirng AC2s is very broken on certain mechs right now. if I could record footage I would post a video unfortunately I don't have the software to do that.

Looks like there is some spots on new HPG that you can get stuck in the floor. This poor direwolf friend cannot move or turn his legs :(

Rocket Doors: Were crap before. - What's the point to keep them close for a tiny bit of additional armour, when you are missing every shot because of the delay. If you open them anyway at the start of a match, you can just remove them.

I was suprised to hear, that crab weapon doors open and close automatically without delay (I don't have any crab), but all missile doors won't. How much sense does this made?

And I was never sure if I actually caused any damage when shooting the open weapon doors of a catapult. - When it comes to me, you can just remove them completely or make a free bolt-on out of it...

HPG Manifold Reborn: Awful map. LRM and long range sniping galore.

May be it was because Highlanders are currently on sale, but yesterday was just annoying. Missiles raining down on you (even when you have ECM) or alternatively getting shot by Gauss Rifles and PPCs. - One problem seems to me, that at a certain spawn point the ramp to get into sniping position on the wall is right in front of you. That way even slower assaults are already waiting for the other team when they are entering the inner ring. - When you are playing a medium and already cored 60secs into the match without having seen a single enemy, you won't have much fun. Peek once more and you are dead and you are not even in optimal range for your medium lasers, yet...

New tactics will certainly arise, but the new maps (same applies for polar highlands) favor bigger mechs with more and heavier long range weapons. Yes, there is plenty of cover to sneak in on them, but every time you rush from cover to cover you get shoot from long range. By the time you get in range to shoot back, you are already pretty beaten up and easy to overcome. For medium and most heavy mechs these are no good times: They lack the range to shoot back hard enough and they lack the speed to close in fast enough. - Sad.

New hpg is a blast. Every match I've had on it so far was a straight brawl, and the middle formation is super nice to fight around, too. Can't wait to try it in fp.

When people said there were "holes in the floor", I thought they meant holes in the invisible texture that you couldn't actually see. I didn't realize there are literal holes in the terrain where you can see all the way to the sky below the world...

Hellfire
All Variants:
  • Added 10 Armor to CT
  • Added 10 Armor to both LT and RT

I don't think that going to be enough sorry.. Needs a fair bit more to be a good mech.

My first impression is that the new HPG Manifold is the old Canyon Network. Been wandering about desperately trying to find a way from the top down or vice versa, short of having jumpjets. But take it with a grain of salt, too early to pass judgement. Will try getting used to it, it looks interesting.

Just looked around the new HPG. I agree with others who have already said: we're going to have a lot MORE wall-sniping, now. Not less. Now EVERY ranged 'mech is going to climb those ramps and find cover on the walls at the start of the match, and only brawlers will dare enter the center area. The map boundaries have been pushed back so the entire wall area is now in-bounds, and there are new cover structures on the top of the wall to hide behind and poke out from, as well as platforms over some of the gates to allow for more movement on top of the walls. HPG is now a sniper map. Prove me wrong.

You looked around it? And didn’t actually play it? Come on…

After playing the map several times last night, there is an abundance of cover throughout the entire map that can be used to make those sniper mechs useless. Not to mention, you run in to range issues very quickly up there. If the team rolls away from you, you are left sitting up there with your thumb up your butt with nothing to shoot. It was pretty easy to avoid wall snipers from my experience. I actually find it easier to avoid the wall snipers now than it was before.

Hellspawns are a lot better thanks.

HPG seems to have a few graphical issues as well. Underneath the walls do not quite connect to the floors in some spots, just a heads up. I like the map a lot though.

I found a good counter to that is going underneath HPG its a lot more viable to play that way now.. We won two matches that way.

I personally do not like the new HPG map, and here's why and some suggestions to fix things. First of all, props to the dev team for bringing us new maps, projects like map updates take alot of time and effort that we as players don't realize. That being said, I was an avid fan of the old HPG map, and was sad to see it go. Not only was it one of the original maps when MWO first came out, the layout was fantastic in my opinion. Not only did removing it remove nostalgia factor, it also removed one of the classic maps liked by many (as most pre-game map vote counters can attest). What I personally like about HPG was it's straightforwardness. In my opinion, it was a map that made it easy to predict enemy movement and less likely to get flanked from multiple directions. Fights were peek and push based instead of flank and harass from multiple directions based. This factor made it a very unique map and set it apart from the other maps. And now with it's original design gone... I can't help but feel like that type of straightforward map design has been erased from the map pool. I can understand from a design point of view where flanking and adding more routes can be a way to make the game more strategic, but too much of it leads to frustration in my opinion. Getting into a good fight with a big chunk of the other team, only to be attacked from multiple angles and harassed at once is more frustrating than fun in my opinion. It subtracts from the fun of the main fight. About fix suggestions, maybe as mentioned before in the thread, bringing back the old HPG into the map pool in addition to this new one, instead of removing the old HPG outright? Also, it would be very helpful if PGI discussed the reasoning behind revamping HPG. Did it get stale for most players? Was there not enough routing? Anyways, I know the map's only been out for a day, but those were my initial thoughts on it. Good luck on the battlefield everyone!

check it out man, the walls are strong positions but you have a lot of cover from them and can access them through completely covered lanes to brawl down snipers

HPG has lost all it's character.. it's just randomly placed walls and ramps now.. feels more like a test map. At the very least leave both maps in rotation because they are so drastically different from each other.

Back in the day, before it got left behind by other mechs and higher alphas and the like, the Centurion was considered an extremely tanky brawler. You'd bring out the -A with 3SRM6A and two MLs and if you were good at twisting players would have to chew through the entire right-hand side of your mech before they could actually degrade your ability to fight.

Survivability buffs will hopefully bring it back to somewhere near that level

Thanks for explaining! Posted Image

If all we care about, now, is that there are ramps everywhere and the map is evenly balanced, and we don't give a **** about what it actually looks like, then we might as well go back to the rainbow colored test-maps and stop kidding ourselves that we're trying to create interesting visuals, because the reworked maps look like dog crap compared to what they're supposed to be and what they used to look like, due to the artificiality of the ramps, and the fact that there are ramps EVERYWHERE.

Canyon Network looks Bulldozed and Graded for crying out loud. There's nothing natural about that. I'd rather have a photo-realistic copy of the North Dakota Badlands, or even shallower parts of the Grand Canyon, than a recreation of the local playground sandbox.

Honestly, "override" is supposed to be hit each and every time you go over 100%, and not be this universal setting that you select at the start of a match. You're supposed to get hit with an auto-shutdown, then override THAT shutdown. If you get another auto-shutdown, you override THAT shutdown. At some point, if you go high enough overheat, you can't override, and your computer forces a reactor shutdown.

The best way to implement this is to decrease the override interval depending on how far overheat you are. If you go only a couple percent over, you get 5 seconds or so to override before you actually shut down (none of this 100.001% and you're offline). As you go higher, the time interval decreases until you hit whatever the cap is (in the original rules it was 30 points of heat over what your heat sinks could dissipate in 10 seconds, but that would probably be adjusted for balance), at which point you auto-shutdown without a chance to override.

In the interim, you also lose mobility and weapon accuracy, and start running the risk of cooking off your ammunition, if you have any. That's how heat works in Battletech, and is one of the major missing balancing factors in this game that is contributing to making laser boats too powerful.

This is the whole problem with MWO in general if you ask me : All kinds of things you need to know in order to be able to play this game properly!

Why is there no Wiki or something similar on the MWO website for new players ?!

I have been playing since 2012 with some breaks now and then and I did not know the above... Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Firstly, making sure the map is actually fun to fight on takes priority over looks. This is one reason why maps like blood run, campgrounds, deck17, dust2, and blood gulch are so enduring - they focused on being a fun place to fight, and any flavour came afterwards. Tunnelvisioning on lore when making a map leads to a bad map.

You forgot de_dust Posted Image

Great.

BUT.
Archer needs to have the doors changed to sideways opening. NOT top opening. It's too large and anyone with half a brain cell wouldn't have implemented it that way. And this is coming from someone carrying a torch for lore.

Question! Not related to this patch, but will we ever be able to work in the mechlab while we're waiting for matchmaking? Sure would be nice to customize mechs (even if the currently selected mech is locked) and do stuff instead of just watching the 'Searching' circle spin round and round. (especially when playing in a pair/group which can take forever to match)

To be honest I would like to see the Chat Windows better available/useable and some kind of "All MWO Players Chat Channel" without having to join any Faction Warfare stuff Posted Image

I can kind of do it because I use more than 1 screen but it's not very practical...

On a quirks, I can't say anything, since I'm not deep enough in this theme. Something made me happy, something alerted me, something upset me.
Vitality quirks for light mechs?.. At first, the streaks was killed. When the realization came that the streaks were actually killed, the decision was made to make them a little better: not completely useless against light mechs, but quite useless against bigger mechs. And so, now the survivability of light mechs is increasing, which again returns the streaks to a useless state. I applaud while standing. I suppose no one will ever admit their mistake in making the wrong decision about the total nerf of the streaks.

I thought Streaks were made to hit the Center Torso of Lights a lot better than they did before ?!

Especially when Chain Fired ??

This puts medium mechs in a really weird place. The mist lynx now has almost the same armor as the shadow cat. The shadow cat, as an example, feels absurdly under-armored as a medium mech.

Will an update in the future address this?

Shadow Cat ER PPC Campers need to be removed from the game anyway so no issue there! Posted Image

I have played "Brawl Style" witth the Trial Shadow Cat a couple times and it works just fine!

All those wannabe snipers ruin all the fun for most of us!

Does this mean there's going to something in the next pass to address all the duel RAC5 and ac2 boats? You want to talk about low heat to high damage output they are ridiculous, even when considering they are supposed to be a lower heat option. While i realise that that testing grounds isn't the best for all tests just try some of those builds and you can strip the awesome on caustic in under 30secs with very little heat build up. i agree that the C-LPL may have needed some adjusting but they are nothing compared to some of those builds.

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about!

RAC/2 and RAC/5 were something that the game really needed and I am glad P.G.I. added them some years ago to MWO Posted Image

New HPG is great.
Yes there are snipers on the walls, but there's tons of cover and those snipers are very vulnerable to fast lights and mediums just walking up to them.

The middle of the map is now a great place for close and midrange combat.
