it can work, but the devil is in the details. details that will have to be implemented by pgi (its pretty irrelevant to highlight how other devs do things, pgi is going to do it the pgi way, we can point to good examples but they are unlikely to be used). it also depends on what way they wish to go. the single drop mech select route has different problems from the whole deck multi-drop approach. the former can i figure add at most 15 seconds to the post vote screen, and you can just use the leopards (and i think it would be interesting to be able to chose lz from a few options to mix up the matches a bit).

when using the full deck the delays from the existing cyclic dropship "schedule" means that when you die you have at most one cycle of the drop ship schedule to go through, and probibly also a minimum wait time to prevent insta-drops. im not sure if its 90 seconds, but it does seem like that sometimes. also the dynamic drop pod (rather than the scheduled drop), will give players the smallest possible drop delay, and being dynamic gives you a significantly shorter walk, by virtue of being able to drop near your team. you can step up the time table significantly with that feature, and you can still call your mode quickplay.

No timer needed, just pick your mech and insta respawn right away. No delays no pods no anything. No need for dropships, just waste of cpu cycles. I don't need some kind of scientific or technical explanation when my second World War 2 tank respawns instantly at the selected spot (War Thunder). Be simple.

I don't think it's PGI anymore other than by name. This had been taken over by a European outfit and it likely has a reason for it. For all intent and purposes I consider this under new management under an old name.

Just 10 minutes is all that's needed from game start to end. Either objectives are completed earlier or the timer runs out with the most points wins. No need to follow the War Robots 6 vs. 6, also adopted by Mech Arena. You can go with a 4 vs 4 but I like 8 vs. 8. Pick the game mode - TDM or Conquest - and random maps. No more map voting. Never heard of any successful game that does democracy on maps.

A few months ago they were talking about rebranding the game...

So just add drop decks to Quickplay.
Suddenly, matches will be determined by the objective.
Suddenly, Skirmish will be a meaningful choice.
Suddenly, games won't snowball so hard.
Suddenly, making one mistake won't remove you from the match.
Suddenly, the entire meta has changed.
Suddenly, players will be discussing what they bring in their decks.
Suddenly, the old excuse "wrong mech for the map" will become void.

We already have proof of concept from Event Queue.
This will breath new life into the game.
Just do it.

Faction Play was killed by neckbeards nut cupping against puggles.
Why do people keep bring it up? Literally nobody in this thread has asked for that.

4 mech drop deck with 4 maps and the ability to seclect your mech for each map. so 1 hour plus per play. if that's too long drop it down to a 2 mech drop deck with one or 2 maps. then you could require one light one heavy or just tonnage etc.

That sounds cool, but when the teams are imbalanced, it will not last an hour.

Keep it simple.

Do what we do right now, but maybe adjust the timer after we see how it goes.

QP drop decks are probably a bad idea

if you get behind on kills your in for a long long match

maybe try a drop deck of 2 mechs

but with 4 mech drop decks you guys will be back here crying about the seals (again)

4 mechs.
15 minutes.

All matches will last 15 minutes.
Most people will use 2 mechs. Some will use 3.
Get killed by a sniper, lurmers, assault, light, whatever? You have a chance to repawn a counter and go after them.

Maybe add Revenge Kill as a cbill/exp bonus.
Just do it.

The post I replied to asked for 4 mech drop decks (like faction play), in soup queue, ( a queue that allows mixed solos and groups similar to faction play, but limited to 4 mans), without any tier system (like faction play). Literally that's what is being asked for here. How would such a system not end up, as you put it, "neckbeards nut cupping against puggles"?

Not sure about this. I like dropdecks, It's been working very well in the event queue, and faction play is my favourite mode.

But I also like how the one life and random maps make the quickplay metagame distinctly different from the other two modes and gives less specialized builds a place to not be completely useless. I think with dropdecks in quickplay you would lose that distinction.

I would rather just see improvements to faction play and more frequent events in the event queue while leaving quickplay as is. The only thing I'd change in quickplay at this point is to remove the voting and make maps and mode completely random.

Because it's a 15 minute Soup Queue. Not 12mans dodging other teams and/or ninja queuing in the last moment to skip the line and guarantee they get 25 minutes to farm every single tier 4 puggle at their drop zones.

In Faction Play you know what map you're on before you select your mech. In Quickplay, you don't know which map/mode it is until you vote.. so naturally "less specialized mechs" would always have a place as your first drop.
On your second drop, you would have 3 mechs left to choose from, if you feel the particular map calls for more specialization.

The meta will certainly change, and we'll certainly see mechs being used situationally.
We'll see people dropping with AC's on their first mech, and LBX on their second, for example.
We'll see piranhas coming out on people's 3rd drops, as well as others dropping streak mediums to counter them.
If you wreck the enemy with lurms, maybe they'll respawn with AMS boats and push you back.

Compound this with an ever-changing weight limit, and the meta will be more dynamic, certainly.

So, you cant do 1000 damage, and try to do 250*4 damage with 4 mechs?

Doesn't look like a Quick Play.
