I have been head shot more times in the last two weeks than i have in the last two years. Anyone else noticing an increase in headshots. Someone must have made a new headshot bot again.

you didn't by chance make t2? that would do it.

head shots really aren't that hard to pull off with a little practice and the right build.

Head shots are quite doable if you focus on doing them. Assaults are obviously a lot easier to hit. Pick your moment, AND FIND YOUR ZEN. My peak was two Atlas in one match, with 5x MPL Kit Fox. I was hanging out with an assault, so the Atlas didn't notice me, so I could take that moment to focus when they pushed around the corner and stopped for a moment. HEavy lasers are another good tool for getting a head shot. Other people use dual heavy gauss., YMMV

This, and start training yourself to aim for the cockpit area instead of center mass. It takes time to build up that habit, but understand you are still hitting the CT if you do not get a headshot. Most of my headshots are from simply aiming for that general location with the intent of hitting the CT there than trying to hit the CT center mass where the area on many meds, esp humanoid mechs, are smaller. Though I do feel a tad sorry.. not really.. for ravens when they are peaking over something. Many of my headshots have been in such situations, and I was not even trying for the cockpit, it simply got in the way. :)

Learn the twisties, and not just left/right but a variation of up/down/left/right. think of it as shaking your head.

I disagree that headshots can be done without a tool or sheer luck. luck i will agree it can be done but in all other cases it cant be done on a regular basis because every single mech has a different spot for the cockpit.

i always go for a headshot if you shut down in front of me. override is your friend.

do i always get it, no, maybe 1 in 8. sometimes im too hot and firing an alpha would break something to the point where if it fails to make contact i will be in a world of hurt when the other mech comes back up cold and im cooking off parts.

I've gotten quite a few with my 2 HPPC Vindi, but it's never from aiming for the head, it's just luck when aiming for center mass. The worst is when it takes more shot to finish a mech through the CT, and you hit the head (but not enough to kill it) and waste valuable time waiting for cooldown to hit either CT or the head to finish it off.

Tldr, don't skimp head armor unless you're a 20 tonner whose one shot away from death regardless of head armor.

mechs with center mass cockpits are probibly most of my quasi-accidental headshots. quasi because the head is just the logical aim point on those mechs when going for ct shots. aim small miss small. strip head armor on those mechs at your own risk.

most of my intentional headshots are probibly annihilators, because the cockpit is so high and the guns so low, you can easily put yourself in a position where you can hit the head without being subject to return fire.

Just been headshot whilst moving laterally to target, he was moving diagonally and I was torso twisting at the same time....and also factor in latency.....apparently he could get his lbx 80 to converge on my head..looked the player up to see if he was actually good enough to do that...46%........

You learn what the head hit boxes are. Given enough time and willingness to learn them its doable.

These are the kind of headshots that just happen. He wasn't aiming for your head, but prob just center mass. Especially mechs like Clan marauder etc. are quite vulnerable to these. Within an certain range lbx are actually quite good at head shooting. I don't have a ton of head shots, but my 4 lbx 10 sleipnir did more of them then u would expect.

Also angle helps a lot. Shooting from above with ppc on chicken walkers is rly hs festival. A lot of these cockpits are rly big if u shoot top down.

The only real time you need to worry about cockpit shot is if you shutdown and that's why you override.

If you have any trigger discipline-you never shut down.

You can lose half of Light Engine or Clan XL and it will shut you down, with override you can at least continue shooting or try hide and then cool down.

I would expect that PGI tracks this as there are achievements for head shots.

Can any of the Cauldron or PGI staff that moderate the forums give us some data or stats on headshots (per capita due to pilot population 'changes') year to year or by month?

I would expect that number to has gone up with the introduction of HPPCs and more mechs that can field 6x AC5s.

Go into the testing grounds and give it a try. You will find that you can locate the cockpits on those mechs with a little practice. That will teach you how to look for them on others. It can definitely be done.

I'll never forget the match I had on Terra Therma where an enemy mech pop-tarted in front of me and by sheer luck I put a gauss round right into his head. Squish. It was hysterical.

Yep, for 10 and 100 headshots you get a GXP reward and for 1000 headshots the reward is "the Guillotine" title.

I wonder what is the rarer title, Deathstar or Guillotine?
