Hello all,

I know a lot of players don't like Solaris, and to be honest it was a bit of a bomb but this event is actually quite fun (at least in its early stages). In less than an hour, I was able to complete the ten drops required and earned 17 war horns, 250GSP, and 4M c-bills and that doesn't include whatever c-bills I earned from the drops themselves. It took about 2 1/2 hours to do 31 drops earning an average of ~400k c-bills per match so there's another 12+ million space bucks.

It's not hard to get 50 match score, so I would definitely give it a try for at least 10 drops. Do that in every weight class and, well, you can do the math.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

Just a good way to finish what is already dying - to split playerbase. Not going to play it. If game doesn't have team vs team balance, then 1vs1 is even worse.

If you say so. Personally I'm loving the chance to fight something that isn't "Sit in the back and blue laser vomit", and not needing eight tons of ammo to keep my ACs fed throughout the entire match.

Solaris as an ~event~ is great fun. Too bad they thought it would be a solid e-sports pvp mode people wanted to stream and play 24/7 and sank millions into it that evaporated like fog in the morning sun with no returns. Straw that broke the pgi camels back with all the millions they sank into it for no real return. I'm still pissy over it...

Yea I ran into the SAME exact cookie cutter Annhiliator with 6 AC5s and a light PPC sitting at back of map by 3 diff people 3 times and it's damn near unbeatable and I was just like "nah this is dumb".

i found it boring and rather garbage but then again thats how i have Felt about Solaris since it came out. of the 10 matches i played every one but 2 were the same Dire Whale build. of the other two one was a Stone Rhino and the other a Bullshark. boring as heck to be honest.

I've noticed that a lot today as well, but that's not a Solaris issue, that's a Steiner Arena issue. When you have a map with a raised platform on each side, and a barren coverless wasteland in the middle it devolves into a snipfest. There was none of that crap yesterday on Mech Factory.

no it was just another equally unimaginative meta build instead.

I do not do well in 1v1. I readily admit I am not good solo. I much prefer to work as a team. Too bad that rarely happens in this game.

The reason S7 failed was because it introduced 7 simultaneously active queues, which took the QP and FP population at the time and split it across 9 total queues.
If it was done the way EQ was setup (one type of matchup at a time) then it would've potentially been far more active and lasted longer. The spectating was nice, but it also allowed for queue dodging and gaming the leaderboards.

Indeed, it depends on the maps. Mech factory made for some very good brawls and in the end I found that old-school mechs/builds worked best and judging from the build variety on the opponents it wasn't just S7 veterans joining in.

Solaris may have been a failure as a stand-alone mode but as an event it works much better as so far has been the most efficient way of gaining in-game currencies and war horns.

This community can always count on you to provide a pithy comment to anything remotely approaching praise of this game. You have a gift for it, Sir.

I prefer to believe that even a broken clock is correct twice a day, and every now and then something good happens with MWO.

Mech Factory has the left of spawn gantry ledge to snipe on for similar results even if it's not as effective due to the map.
The most fun part about Factory is playing with arm lock off on a fast chassis and shooting at the other assault from the high platforms at an unexpected angle though, since most of them have mediocre torso pitch and don't expect this (this is shut down by the left spawn sniping position though since it's center map plays).

like its the only time they pissed away millions. solaris mostly died because we wanted the big ffas like mw4 solaris (or better, mwll solaris). with all the side dealings, back stabbings, and other shenanigans it entails. duals and doubles was boring in comparison. 4v4s on small maps would have been better. but the foundation was never there for the solaris we actually wanted (namely ffa and respawns). they had to make it out of code that was abandoned years before.

Always did love solaris and what it was. While I like the event, it just reminds me of what we lost. Still had fun, won and lost just like old times.

Actually it was at least 16 total queues, there was Solaris 1v1s AND Solaris 2v2s. I can't remember if Group Queue was a thing when Solaris was introduced, so at one point there may have been 17 queues lol

EDIT

I forgot Scout mode. Make it 17 / 18 queues!

scouting was why i wanted 4v4 modes. i didnt like the side quests in scouting, another contrivance. but for the games where it was squirrels and bunnies skirmish, it was fun. other weight classes would have been more fun (scouting: steiner edition).

they wouldnt have had so many player availability issues if they would have abandoned 12v12 in a few places. i often wondered what fp would be like in an 8v8 configuration. then it could have had more modes better suited for solo players and it would have really sped up wait times.

What some other online games did:

You get (small) daily rewards for lining up in a [Play_In_Any_Mode] as assigned by the MWO server.
In this mode, you might be assigned to a QP game, or a FP game, or a Solaris7 game, or a current Event game.
Anything and everything as assigned by the MWO server.

I would suggest something like:
+2 MC each day for playing 1x game of [Play_In_Any_Mode] as assigned by the MWO server.
An additional +3 MC each day for playing the 5th game of [Play_In_Any_Mode] as assigned by the MWO server.

So 5 MC per day adds up, if you do this everyday, can become significant.
Also keeps players coming back to MWO regularly.
Online game mindshare, you know!

I played only 10 matches, winning twice and losing 8 times.
To be honest, it's not much fun, and the reason I think that is because twice I played against either cheaters or players who are very good at things.
I play because it's a quicker game than a normal match, I get more C-Bills, and I get warhorns.
But if any one element was missing, I wouldn't play.
