I'm thinking just a handful of mechs at first. Possibly 3 from each class for a total of 12. I wonder how much advanced tech will be available at launch.

The first Mechassult got by with only 9 at launch but you don't need very many to get the idea of the game...long as we have +100 a year down the road.

Wouldn't MW:LL Mechs be easily convertible..?

One would have to think some of the guys working on MW:LL would be hired for MW:O just for thier skills in making Mechs.

In any case, hopefully its like ST:O took them a month to debug the really bad stuff, and then started rolling more content within 3-6 months.. Hopefully its not like ST:O in it had bad launcher problems at first.

Haven't been there in a while, not sure how its going.

I think MWO will have 4 maps styles, probably about 16-20 innersphere mechs and only technology available for the year 3049. I think as the game progresses we will see the addition of the Clans, more maps, more mechs, more technology as it becomes available according to battletech canon.

That's just a guess of course :D

I would love it if the maps auto generated for each round. It would make the info warfare thing more interesting as you wouldn't know that "The Jenners always hide in this parking garage" for example.

Interesting point about MWLL assets, but I think the devs/modellers have their own artistic interpretation :D

Anyways, this is going to be one exceptional-quality microcline ¤MVP¤ :D

Given their timeline, January 2012 is equivalent to January 3049, I would expect everything up to 3039 TRO tech will be available - though most of it will have to be unlocked with Character or Mech XP to be available to an individual player. For starter 'mechs we will probably be looking at 3025 tech only.

I prefer to think of it as MVP.

You know, like in all those sports people tell me so much about...

Exactly. A smart publishing company doesn't tout its product as "minimal" in any way shape or form.

If that's an industry term, then you keep it in-house.

A smart publishing company touts it product as MAXIMAL MECH MAYHEM...not [sota voce squeemishly] "minimal maybe something".

Sheesh.

Come on, guys. Get with it. BRING IT.

Don't "um maybe this is ok" it.

Probably not. PGI is building the game with a full license and full suite of tools. MWLL is a mod (a spectacular amazing award winning badazz mod) but a mod nonetheless so the devs had to use the tools available. Also, MWLL is CE2 I believe while MWO is CE3.

Because of the limitations, the mechs in MWLL are actually two hybrid vehicles put together. The upper torso is essentially a tank vehicle and the legs and lower torso were another vehicle. Im sure a MWLL dev here can elaborate.

I think the game as outlined with their goals and blogs and whatnot sounds amazing, and if they stick to it then they can pull off what we Battletech/MW fans have been craving for years. I have faith in PGI, and I'm sure the game won't dissapoint

Personally, I'll be very pleased with the quality of what is released vs. quantity of whatever ships ... that is what is attracting me to this version of MechWarrior, the design goals ...

I couldn't agree more. I've seen too many good games go down the tubes due to rushing to "get it out!".

that doesnt sound like a mmorpg to me.

sounds like mechwarrior5 multiplayer with additional DLC later on.

I don't think MWO was ever intended to be an MMORPG. While there are persistant portions of the game (ie: match scores are counted in the galactic struggle and character training moves with you from match to match) there is no persistant world.

Get the basics right:
  • The feel and flow of a battle should be natural.
  • The piloting of a mech should feel secondary.
  • There should be a few mechs for all classes
  • There should be a few maps
  • There should be a sense of involvement
  • There should be a sense of community
At that point I'm all gravy.

I don't really care at the moment. I will play it even if it comes out with the fine polish of gravel.

Oh, I'm sure starter stuff is going to be all 3039 tech. What I meant was, how much unlockable/purchasable advanced tech will there be. Will I be able to buy a fully upgraded mech from the cash shop? Hmmm...

im starting to get the vibe that it isnt even supposed to be a mmo.

more like a multiplayer arena pvp game with a built in lobby of some sort.

or am i way off there too?

You're not super far off. It's an "mmo" in the respect that you have the ability to intreact with many players and that your battles have an impact on the greater game community. BUT the focus is on the "instant action" style match play.

We shouldn't go into the launch expecting a glossy final game that would normally take years to develop. It will no doubt be glorious but it will lack features and details, and balance and polish.

Look at it this way. We get to say, "yes I played MWO from the beginning back before we had this or that."

Yeah i learned this lesson the hard way with Star Trek Online. I followed it's development for 8 years being the hard core Trekkie that i am. I was in open beta and even a recruiter for a fleet by the time the time it finally launched. I ended up leaving the fleet i was with and took a break from the game for a whole year. When i finally came back a year later it was finally everything the devs cracked it up to be and turned out they were'nt lying to the players at all about the features, it just turns out that they failed to mention that all the features they promised will be developed over time. I started playing SWTOR with the correct attitude and am able to enjoy it as a fresh MMO a lot better cuz of that lesson.

But if there is any game worth induring the frustrating "it's a brand new online game" stage it's gotta be MWO. MWLL is glitchy as all get out (only on my end cuz my PC sucks) but was still fun as heck even with my constant CTD issues that caused me to stop playing MWLL(at least until i get a better PC :P )

In the last interview, Russ said he was initially resisted the label of MMO but not any more. He said that MWO does have some MMO characteristics such as persistent universe and being all multiplayer online.

To me MMO means what it technically means, massively multiplayer online but its a very broad term. People then assume things like persistent world with thousands of players sharing the game space, instances and missions, role play features, and social gaming which MMO doesnt really imply.

Imo, MWO will be a MMO-IPVP-PU.. MMO with Instanced Player vs Player battles, Persistent Universe with an unfolding timeline. Doesnt sound like its going to have massive game space shared by hundreds or thousands of players, or social-based features. It will have some roleplay features based on factions but not like character classes with missions.

Think Ill make this a topic.

As much as i like to sugest, i dont want to critisize or start guessing my head off about what im going to get at launch. I know im going to get battlmechs, nad all the grat houses. What is there left to ask for after that? the next update. But lets get to launch before we start asking for that update...
