This is a Skill game not a Story Game.

The Fun is in competing with other real players not in fighting dumb, brainless, CPU-Controlled Enemys and watch a Movie after that.

the ever recurring opinion, why do people insist on downplaying a Campaign/Story, and force their beliefs about what is fun or not.

this game has great graphics and would have had a singleplayer component if not for the fact that no investors had the balls to jump onboard.

right now the only revenues are founders/preorders.

i'm hoping for good Mechwarrior Credit revenues so we could possibly get a fully fledged Mechwarrior game with BOTH components in the future.

then if they do add pve we'll all complain about how we need to remain online to play pve XD
"i bought this for the pve! why do i have to remain online??"
"why is there maintenance for a single player game??"

We will be taking part in many of the events that make the BT universe so great. Yes, the devs intend to follow the canon timeline, but look at the playground that offers! With out the Clans or the Fedcom civil war, we have six interstellar nations going at each other. Planets in the border areas will change hands as they are fought over repeatedly. Feuds and vendettas will be created as units along a front face each other time and again. There can be no single story line as can be found in the other MW titles. We will write our own stories and create our own legends in this rich, vast world!

Don't forget those epic battles of survival on those critical planets next to the homeworld when one clan starts lacking only a bit. The stories we'll weave wil be plenty interesting. Just stand by gotta make sure the game WORKS first.

MWO was never suppose to be an MMO. No idea how did you came out with this.
Not all games with persistent world are MMOs. Yes, people are clueless these days and ignorant about genes, but MMO isn't be-all-end-all of the computer gaming. I by far more prefer normal multiplayer games like MWO then MMO BS.

Hate to burst your bubble but this is certainly a MMO. It could also be argued that it is an MMORPG since there is a character advancement aspect.

RUMOR has it.. that if sales are strong and interest high.. once they have everything 90% on MWO.. they may invest in a Single Player mission packs..

I personally would love that, then they could release all the potentional the game and CE3 has.. :o

BTW Russ, Bryan, etc.. count me in for $30 a single player mission.. Give me a mission a month and times me by how many other MWO Crazies you have here and I think you get the Idea.. ;)

Battletech has story to fill the next 15 years.

15? More like 36, actually, in detail. The next 94 years, if being a little more vague. (If they stick to one day RL=one day in-universe)

Thanks for the info.....im just so sad, to see all them cool graphics go to waste. I mean the previous mechwarrior games had a super huge and simple map and not so complicated and open space, easy for me to lock on and fire my missles like artillery barrages......
I feel like i have no grip on the game, like nothing is worth fighting for in this game if i don't feel important. well thats just my opinion....

See that Fist logo next your name, and the Shield next to mine?

The story you seek revolves around those factions and has not been put into the game yet. While it won't contain the single player campaign you seek, it will provide territory to fight over, enemy factions to fight (in game, not just guilds), and plenty of time on the battlefield enjoying sweet sweet graphics.

No, there isn't an open world where we can wander around aimlessly and enjoy the scenery - and to be fair, I do enjoy that aspect of games that include it - but there is decades of backstory that sets up the intergalactic struggle of the world of Battletech.

Not gonna lie. Those battles are gonna own. I'm curious if they can make servers stable enough to put out more then 8v8 battles (something like Multi-faction battles?) but that grind of the constant battles for various planets is gonna be fun.

Read the profiles of characters people are creating for RP purposes.

That alone makes me want to play, some really well thought out characters.. Makes me want to create one and purchase a founders edition.

plus, if you consider the planet battles and conquers, that IS persistent worldS... so its not just a Multiplayer Game. it's an MMO.

a PvE-less MMO. a PvE-less GuildWars or Tera.

like Battlefield3 with persistent worlds...

anyway, thats just how i look at it. im always big on storyline with MMO as it makes me immersed in the game. but for MWO, there IS a lore... there IS a storyline.... WE are writing it. it just doesn't have PvE, that's all.

so yes, i would argue this game is an MMO in that respect. and i like it.

I know... but in 15 years the IS goes downhill and it would be a complete different game... and i bet they will speed up the time...

You really think it will take 3 real life years to get the Bushwacker? Or 8 for the Owens? Or 17 years for the Uziel?

I never played MW multiplayer until MWO, but always though the campaigns would be great for co-op. Hope my small contribution for Founder's can help make it happen some day.

I would like to point out part of the confusion here is the acronym MMO. Most people refer to MMO and MEAN MMORPG. MMO is Massive Multiplayer Online. Yes MWO is an MMO. It has/will have a massive amount of players playing online. It has story, its just not force fed to you. The amount of lore behind Mechwarrior is pretty staggering if you go look for it.

MMORPG is Massive Multiplayer Online ROLEPLAYING Game. MWO is NOT an MMORPG (though some people still enjoy some roleplaying elements) as a RPG has character development, leveling, and is generally more advancement based than skill based. In traditional Pen and Paper RPGs, the person running the game (GM) had a general plan but could essentially let the players create the story based on their decisions. Computer game developers have struggled to achieve this same flexibility to allow players to actually direct the story of a game, with some limited success in recent releases, with most only achieving choose your own adventure storyline paths.

We want to BE the story, not have it told to us.

Don't be so harsh on those who wish for a PvE experience. There's nothing wrong with such an opinion. For instance, it would be lovely to have lance of friends fighting/making assaults/raiding planets, etc. I guess such an experience will be added in due time, even if it's not PvE (cooperative against other players). There's no need for PvE to be sure, but it will be a huge icing on the cake for those type of players who don't enjoy PvP (in ALL games that there are PvP options, I very rarely do it, with that meaning probably less than 1% of the time-I like cooperation more than competition, to be honest with you.)

I am hoping I am not forced to join one of the darned 5 Houses. I'll go for the underdog (Mercenary force if possible), or if they implement 'Mech choice by faction, to whoever has the 'Mechs I enjoy using.

I would think it iis a wasted opertunity if they do not release a single player or at least an instant action.
