in anticipation of the clan concepts i would have enjoyed recoloring the famous concept art of the classic vulture
http://www.sarna.net...ile:Mad_Dog.jpg

but somehow i don't mange to do it right - everytime i try to "grey it" via soft light layer and color layer i only get a plain white region
i've double checked everything (i'm using GIMP)...seems to be "manipulation protected" if something like this exists - or i'm simply stupid :/
what a pitty, would have loved seeing this beauty with some color

hope mech 20 gets revealed soon ;)

send me your email...
I have a .xcf file for you..   ;)

but i already got it mixed out xD
was too stupid to check wether color mode was black or white or rgb...
when color mode is black and white it is no wonder, that everything turns grey that you want to color xD

No idea, it was just un-sticked and I don't remember any explanation... however the folk are keeping the thread alive! Loving the re-paint's of anything at present!

A lot of threads were unstickied to remove clutter. It was just a big sweep that went on. But it's ok: the thread basically pins itself. Or as I like to say:

..WE ARE THE PINS!

Yes, we are, but new artwork is that plastic part to hold the pin with. :)

This is gonna be a one off: strictly fan art, nothing official here. Ariana Grenadiers Blackjack. The Ariana Grenadiers insignia (the horse in the arrow/triangle) is conjectural (as is the paint scheme -ed), I.E. not canonical but my own suggestions for how things might look. It's been a long time, and I wanted to do something "for fun" :D

Great repaint, but wasn't the Ariana's Grenadiers paint scheme never actually shown? Or was it some sister unit?

That's why I say conjectural. To my knowledge the paint scheme was never shown. The Insignia is described as an 18th century grenadier wearing a Miter cap, a cap which my insignia is meant to be representative of: the insignia also incorporates an arrow (symbolizing ascendancy) and a knight/horse borrowed from the 2nd Ariana Fusiliers insignia, which I've come to view as a unique and suitable design element for the three Ariana formations that existed prior to the end of the 4th Succession War.

ED: So yeah. Basically what I'm getting at is, this is a fantasy piece.

Just freakin' awesome! Given I took a shot at St. Ives, this makes me wonder what you'd eventually do with the fictitious Atlas Hunters... just for fun of course. ;)

One off treatment, for an old friend. Respect for camaraderie. Fan work, nothing official.

In the belly of the Leopard Class drop ship Lady Washington the mysterious leader of the notorious Atlas Hunters stared up at the hastily-painted Blackjack salvaged from an earlier raid on Warlock. It was the heaviest ‘mech on hand, and would be replacing the Orion that had been shot out from under him almost a month ago. When he agreed make himself available to his old compatriot, Major Hayden of the St. Ives expeditionary Group, he certainly never expected to end up in a Blackjack. Let alone one so… uniquely painted.

“What, you couldn't decide on a damn paint scheme?”

* * *

Auto canon fire rocking the cockpit of his borrowed BJ-1 snapped the dashing MechWarrior, known only to his compatriots as “The Iron Hawk”, back to attention. There was a battle to be fought… or rather, an escape to be made.

“That camo is working pretty good, right?” Came the deep, chocolaty tones of Major Hayden, leader of the St. Ives Expeditionary group and the last of his lance mates standing. “It’s a little number we like to call ‘super ridgeline’, all those AC rounds flying around you? Yeah, they’d be getting twice as many hits if we had painted that thing up in your default Atlas Hunters scheme! It would be like a bullet magnet! If lead was ferrous…”

The Iron Hawk cursed under his breath: this was supposed to be a personal favor, not a death wish. “Cut the chatter, how far are we to the dust-off zone?”

“About fifty klicks! Through the main enemy force, they’ll never see us coming!”

The Iron Hawk sighed: this was going to be a long night.

* * *

“Hey Hawk, your real name isn’t ‘Butch’ or ‘Sundance’, is it?”

ED: Updated for formatting.

AH Jenner - with Classic AH colors:

And with 'super ridgeline' inspired colors:

EDIT for a bit of fan fiction:

The expedition with Major Hayden against impossible odds was so successful that the Atlas Hunters decided to apply Hayden's 'super ridgeline' within the AH 'mech lineup as an official, adaptable camo scheme. The SIEG's salvaged Blackjack in AH colors had to undergo heavy repairs, paid in full by the Hunters; Ironhawk wouldn't have it any other way. And on the night the AH brought back the BJ-1 it was as good as new, but Major Hayden refused to take it back; he wouldn't have it any other way.

That night, the AH and the SIEG leaders had a few drinks. Both men reflected upon the rumors of another war brewing in the Inner Sphere. This last battle alongside Hayden has given Ironhawk an addictive sensation of excitement that had been shoved aside for too long. His rusty reflexes almost cost him his life, but veteran skills recuperated each time - with some help from the Major once or twice.

Upon his return to the Atlas Hunters' headquarters and paintshop bay, Ironhawk called his fellow AH for a meeting: "Brothers, gear up your 'Mechs and fine tune your joystick controls. This month of March, the Hunters will, once more, march!"

...To be continued.
