And ice ninja made the point that MWO is not a proper simulator as you dont actually push any of the cockpit buttons, you have an imaginary mouse pointer hovering around which i imagine you control using your mind. they have the tech to do that but not to have a mirror on a stick that the pilot can stick out hhis window to check around corners.
if having a mirror on a stick is an unfair advantage then you really need better skills
if you really want to talk about unfair advantages, why dont you people give up your extra xp and credits that will be earning from your founders packs huh??? give the mechs as well for that matter. makes me laugh how its always the same thing- "unfair advantage" well you will have months of gameplay time over everyone else who joins but no one minds when they have paid for it!!! so why not add it as a feature to all founders. 3rd person view option available. would it be unfair then?
and by the way, what the **** is this **** people posting about child about on a MWO forum under the subject of 3rd person view? surely you should write to Opra or something because people obviously dont click on 3rd person view forums to read about child abuse.

To be completely fair, if you get a mirror on a stick, we should be able to bounce a laser shot off that mirror right into your cockpit. Fair is fair, after all.

Yes, there is. However, do you know where it isn't? In Cry Engine 3.
That thing is desined to run on every **** of a machine and as such renders only things you see.
It isn't as simple as setting up a new viewpoint adjacent to the normal one... basically, impossible to see two things at once with this engine.

If you had a mirror on a stick, you would still look out of your cockpit to make use of it. The mirror would also give away your position. Bad examples will not make valid points for third person view.
And to repost the relevant quote from Paul Inouye again...
Quote
We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.
While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

So if you want 3rd person view, you will have to wait a long time and possibly even never ever get it. No matter how hard you argue for it. The reasons, why it is such a low priority by the devs, are all the reasons we repeat over and over again.
For battle recordings, I could agree to a third person view. For actual battle I can not!

maybe you arent realizing the sizes of the mechs. Where in your cockpit would you store a 30 foot long "stick" to put a mirror on, how would you see a small mirror from 20 feet away, and why would you open your cockpit to use it when you have 100ton death machines shooting things at you?
You can have your mirror on a stick if i can shoot your cockpit when it's open for an instakill

it does not make the game unfair as the technology to look around a corner had always been there, period.
if you dont want 3rd person just admit it you dont like it thats why. all this talk of unfair advantage is ******** because as i stated earlier ALL of us with a founders pack have already paid for the an unfair advantage over everyone else who decides to play this game free, so do not get in so angry because we want 3rd person, and use "unfair advantage" as an excuse when the truth is, you dont want to use 3rd person, and because we do it would mean that yes, wow, we could see around corners, which as i already said people have been doing for a long long time. if the game engine is good enough we will probably see you anyway in the reflection of building windows so i really dont see why people are so against it.

Simply put, if you look better, do you think devs had absolutely no reason to make the game 1st person only?
Making it 3rd person would make their life a **** of a lot easier, but they didn't take that way... ask yourself why.

3rd person view has never been available in real life in the way the 3PV crowd wants it. Your mirror example simply makes no sense at all. Sure, there are ways to look around corners or over a hill or even into a ten mile away town in real life, but they all need time and additional tools, that can be destroyed or disturbed. While you are busy looking at those information you are unable to quickly react to the battle around you. In other words: They come with real disadvantages! 3rd PV, like most who advertise for want it, is a magical floating eye that is invisible and indestructable.
Your argument is still not a valid point!
We Founder have no unfair advantage over the f2p players. We payed money and gained mechs for it. F2p players will be able to so as well. Our extra mechs gain additional credits, but those can be earned with enough play time anyway, so there is no advantage either. We get premium accounts right from the start for our money, that will net us extra XP and credits, nothing that others couldn't buy as well or earn with enough time. No advantage what so ever, except for less play time needed to gain money and XP, over the f2p crowd. We still run the same mechs and the same weapons with the same ammunition and can be killed just as easily.

To be able to look over a hillside or around a building is an advantage already, because you can see your opponent coming, while he doesn't know you are there waiting for him.

ok if you follow this link and scroll down to something called vision mode 4 it clearly states that, that vision mode will allow you to see metal through solid objects, i know it also says these are subject to change but if this is what is on the table then correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a hill a solid object and isn't a mech made of metal?
this information is from the dev blogs themselves, well that is what it states at the top of the page. interesting that the devs have done a complete 180 on this, perhaps is is because of all the FOV fans constant ******** about it being unfair.
i'l say again so i don't get people up my arse about it, this is not my info so it may not be correct! correct it if it is wrong.
and by the way i have followed the mechwarrior franchise since i was about 6 years old my older brother began buying the mechs and we improvised our own boards. so that's 21 years of being a fan and i still want 3rd person. i can promise you if i had the money i would everything battletech.
and to typhus888 im not 100% sure on the rules but in the board games (i was more into building and painting the mechs) im sure that there isn't a big screen in the middle stopping you from seeing your opponents mechs, if you were playing the board game and somebody sent a mech after your missile boats would you scream unfair and demand that that player forget that he saw the mech. you can see where the mechs are on the board from the start.
on a totaly unrelated topic what do you guys think about pilotable elementals/armor?
i've made a few topics on this and got possitive feedback. something like a couple of maps dedicated to elementals v elementals possibly with the addition of ultra light mechs, psssibly even where the the jenner fills the role of the atlas as heaviest mech

sorry for the lenght of this post, you may want to take a pause half way through or something in case your eyes bleed.
