I'll do what i always do in those un/reseen threads: post the image of a neither-seen redesign of the marauder that looks different while preserving the spirit of the original. As PGI always redesigns the mechs mor ore less while including them, they'd also be in-style with the rest of the game... her ya go:

P.S.: give this guy a job! (shortpainter)

It still needs some flavor, someone else tried adding it:

I don't care if it's the Reseen/Unseen, but I want these classic mechs added in the game.

Fixed that for you.

+1 for this.

All the mechwarrior online mechs look far better than anything that has gone before, no question.
I am still hoping to see many of the other mech's. Either way, they have the style right in my opinion.

I'm pretty comfortable about how PGI reworking and adaptin mech designs and see their creative judgement as valid, Unseen or Reseen alike. So, I prefer Reseen as long, as it is reseen by PGI themselves.

Speaking of US/RS in general, they're all different. Some are successful, some are not. Unseen are generally made by low-experience artists, while some Reseen are just plain screwed.

some people are under the impression that PGI just needs to 'pay a royalty' to get the Unseen in, and that such a fee is trivial.

It's not.

These are competing companies that are well within their right to simply say 'no, never, not for any amount of money'. They are not in the business of collecting tiny royalties, they are selling their own media/toys/mechandise.

Using so-called 'reseen' designs could still land them in lots of legal trouble, because the rights-holding companies can take them to court and make a judge decide- a judge who is not a gamer, game designer, or fan. Even winning the case is a cost PGI probably can't afford (both in terms of money and bad press!)

The reseen would be fine for PGI to add.. Considering there allowed in source books which are currently in print..

I'd love to see the unseen marauder, but the reseen one is perfectly acceptable, as the main reason I loved the marauder is it's high mounted main gun, like the k2. The reseen one is acceptable, looks more plausible of a design, due to it is still high mounted enough to work well for range and is a torso mount rather than this flimsy top mount.

One reason the Marauder needs to be put in is that it is half of the name "mad cat" which is an error caused by computer failing to id the mech properly.

Why no option for "I want FD to do a radical redesign based on the original TRO artwork, but different enough that it is free of licensing issues."

I just want my Marauder. Battletech/MechWarrior without a marauder is a sin. If the Marauder was put in the game today, tomorrow I would have sold all 20 mechs in my garage and replaced them all with marauders. I need me some Marauder, Marauder II, Marauder IIC!

Nothing beats the Unseen Marauder and Warhammer. Regardless of the whole "they were stolen from Macross, Robotech, etc...." blah blah blah. They epitomize what Battletech is and in my opinion are the sexiest mech designs there are. I can guarantee you I would buy and play any hero mechs of those two models as would many others.

They need to figure out how to appease the owners of the designs to the "Unseen" can be used again, not these terrible "Reseen" versions.

I don't see how MWO can have the Madcat without at least bringing back the Marauder design. Since, you know, that's how the Inner Sphere came up with the name and all.

I would like to see them use the Reseen personally. I understand there is a few old old school BattleDroids players that wish to see the Marauder and Rifleman in their old forms, but what we want and what we will have are two different things. Its been 30 years, we're not getting them back.

Now the reason I wish to see the Reseen is because quite frankly, they are easier for PGI to remodel for MWO. They've done excellent jobs at this. The Stalker for example, they turned this:

With that being said, imagine what they could do with the Marauder, Rifleman, and Warhammer. They will stick to the roots but bring them out in a much better way. The old style just wouldn't fit without a refit.

The reason for the stalker redesign, is due to the instability of a human legged walker that is front heavy like a blimp.

I really do like the reseen marauder, it doesn't have the glaring flaw of the top mounted gun which can be seen from over a hill, and it looks like a rugged design.

The only good 55-ton 'Mechs are all Unseen. They're not Macross-based designs, so PGI should be able to adapt them for the game. I pulled out my TRO 3050 Upgrade and the only 55-ton 'Mechs appearing in it now are the Dervish, Hoplite, and Kintaro. None of those designs call out to me like the Griffin, Shadow Hawk, or Wolverine do.

I would accept an IS version of that mech. it is close enough to the original version I think.

The non-Macross Mechs are once again Seen... which is good, because most of the Phoenix Reseen are truly horrible. Just look at that skinny stick of a Warhammer and try to tell me it preserves the essence of the original. And gods only know what they were thinking with that thing they call a Marauder.

I'd like some official word from PGI on the Unseen as it has been what? Close to a year? And the questions still go unanswered and are consistently dodged. We don't even get even a "soon" comment. I can only speculate two possible reasons. The first is that there is some legal restriction that was settled behind closed doors and the Unseen will not be in or will be significantly delayed. The second is that they are all being redesigned so as to release them similarly to the "Hero" mechs for quite a considerable amount of money. The silence and many forum threads on the Unseen are perhaps used as a marketing strategy to build hype of course. It also could be a combination of the two where the mechs are being redesigned but must pass inspection so as to they don't violate any copyright designs such as the original Macross mecha. These are just guesses but I admit I'd really like to have a Wahammer or Marauder.

I'd be worried that a certain group of Hollywood realtors / part-time DVD distributors are maintaining scrutiny on PGI, after the Mechwarrior 3015 trailer and its overt use of the Unseen Warhammer.

Personally... I'd rather see other 'Mechs get the spotlight. The current set is already a nice mix of iconic and interesting, and continuing in that vein will be nice. Besides... with the Clans coming up, if you're really into getting certain iconic heavy 'Mechs in...

Everyone knows that the Timber Wolf is intentionally a Catapult with Marauder arms - so intentional that it's also known as the MAD Cat. Now, think long and hard about the Mad Dog, Hellbringer, and Summoner. Sure, you can say "they're not the same," but tell me you don't see an Archer torso on chicken legs, a Warhammer, and a Thunderbolt. That too was intentional, designed for Virtual World sims.

Keep calm and ride those 'Mechs. :)
