I understand that the term "AC/20" can mean any number of different calliburs and firing rates, but if the Hunchback is equiped with an AC/20 I can only think that they picked the biggest darned one they could find with the lowest rate of fire and SLAMMED it onto the top of that mech... In the art the hole is so big that it looks like the mech isn't big enough to hold ANY ammo for it XD

God I haven't played TT in a while.....was 3060 the one with the Ninja-To and the Enforcer III? You know all the mechs with over sized ball and socket joints for everything? All of those, they had the ugly joints that would not be able to be armored, and Idioticly over sized guns with HUGE nobby ends......it was just horrid design.

After playing the TT for a long time (as I'm sure most of you have) I've grown accustomed to some of the sillier designs, and have a fondness in my heart for a lot of designs that look a little awkward. Most of the ones that have been mentioned so far are fine, and my rule of thumb is this: If you can find even one picture of a mech that looks pretty good, the mech is fine. Some, however...

I hate the era of "How much crap can we cram on a mech?" I'm glad it's over.

Edit: Picture scramble!

Double edit! And daily double challenge. Name those mechs! 1-5 first row, 6-9 second row, 10-14 third row.

1) Piece of **** (Hornet?)
2) Hoplite?
3) I feel I should recognize it, but I think I've suppressed the memories
4) Grand Titan (Lego edition)?
5) God's cruelest mistake (or Spiny Norman)
6) Until I saw this one. Sweet Jesus!
7) Crabshoulder McLumpkins
8) Pinion?
9) Panfish with a Shotgun
11) Heavy Arms Gundam's Retarded Cousin
12) Munitions Dump
13) IIC-bot IIC
13) Cannon Head
14) Atlas Shark Krogan

Awesome: Seriously, ***? Do you seriously NEED those huge shoulder guards that practically have "HEY, I'M OVER HERE, SHOOT ME!" written on them?

It was the 80s. Big shoulders were in. If they'd MW/BT in the 70s, we'd see mechs with bell bottoms. Of course they did make the Black Knight which sorta looks like it has bell bottoms on....

For the record, 8 mechs of the lower half are all Clanners. How they went from Timber Wolf and Summoner to something like a Blood Kite still boggles me.

... I am not too fond of the Griffin(-1N) ... it may look quite nice but when it comes to gameplay it is quite useless ... a 55 ton mech equipped with LRM10 and a hand-held PPC ... don't ever have someone come in close range of it ... by contrast, the design of the Ostsol may not be a looker but it is one of the most versatile/enduring IS mechs in its weight class ... also, any kind of four-legged mech would not be exactly be my choice for the game, though it'll be neat to have some around ;-) ...

... design-wise I think the Stalker could be the one I like least (basically, a rocket on legs ... not with the speed of a rocket though) ...

IS: Hollander. If you're going to build a 'Mech designed around a single, long-range weapon, shouldn't that 'Mech be able to keep it's targets at a respectable distance if things go south?

Clan: I really don't like Timber Wolves. They represent everything I dislike about the Clans, all wrapped up in a neat little package for me to blow to scrap.

I never cared for Goliaths. I thought they looked like under-powered Imperial walkers.

If I had to pick the worst 'Mechs out there, it's got to me the Longbow, Awesome, and the Nova Cat. Frickin' LRM boat on one, with a giant DEATH STAR deal on the other two.

I like the Awesome alot , its a very iconic Inner Sphere mech. Yes, it has 3 PPCs, but thats actually a very limited armament. I generally prefer to pilot the versions that drop a PPC or two for lasers and missiles.

There's a list of them, but I'll leave out the ridiculously overstuffed ones and cut it down to something moremanageable.

ANY OST* MECH! Who thought these pieces of crap up? I especially hate the Ostol. Looks like a chubby guy with skinny arms and 4 nipples.

Any 'mech that has no energy weapons. Missiles and Autocannon may be good, but you're dead if you're in a long fight. Not to mention the internal explosions you're just asking for.

The UrbanMech... 'nuff said.

And my most hated 'mech of all? the Imp (aka, Urbie MKII)

Mine was the Guillotine. I hated the look (it has a hat) and the design (under-gunned for its weights). I've been playing since 1992, and I have NEVER seen a Guillotine pick up its weight in a combat.

Most of the others listed above are so conditional... Ostscout is a GREAT mech if you are playing double-blind rules, because it is hard to hit when moving at full speed. The listed Firestarter variant is GARBAGE... until you are playing against infantry, especially in an urban environment. Right tool for the job, I s'pose.

Looks-wise, I always thought the Imp was pretty ridiculous. The Naginata is also comical, as its front shot profile is as big as a city block. It looks like it was made out of Duplo blocks in a LEGO world.

:P

Agreed on the Imp and Naginata, though. :D

I really, really, really hate Ullers. I know the Clans are specialized all to heck, but seriously. The thing has a 45 degree torso twist, only when standing, and it is so short and odd looking that I always get distracted and take a crack at shooting it's wierdly placed legs off.

Longbows. I also despise Longbows. Not enough ammunition, but if you get in their crosshairs, it does not matter how much jumping you do, YOU WILL get hit, and likely take a critical.

I hate fighting Dragons, especially in MW:2M. That PPC was a KILLER, especially when you are still running around in a customized Jenner to save C-Bills.

Tundra Wolves. Almost as bad as the Longbow.

Centurions get my ghost too. They look so archaic, like a toy robot in a kids room, then BA-BOOM! AC20 to the knees and you are down for the count. No thanks. I STILL steer clear of Centurions no matter the situation. Rather pick it off from as FAR away as possible. I think I would take on an Atlas in a Raven before I would take on a Centurion in a Bushwacker.

And finally, Panzers. Just... WHY? Why would you stick a PPC on an INNER SPHERE light 'mech? Are the engineers insane? The PPC is HEAVY, for one. Especially older model PPC's. The amount of strength required to accurately lift and target with a PPC SHOULD be just barely beyond the capacity of the Myomers in the arm to lift the dang thing. And then there are the maintenence issues with mounting a weapon of that much power on an ill-suited frame. And it's unbalanced on one side as a result. Then you pile on jump jets. It is a heat nightmare! But, that does not stop it from being effective, because it really is quite an efective design. It is like the Helicopter of light 'mechs. It is not supposed to work, but it does, and very well at that.

They got a nice redesign though- people acuse it of looking anime but I disagree- its lines are still fairly angular and straight and menacing as opposed to the curves of anime stuff.
