I think name wise is the bushwacker. Man... 'nough said there lol. Though look wise reminds me of a hummer. Ugly, waste of fuel, but somehow still is used.

For serious though, the gargoyle. *** is that supposed to look like... A diving suit from the 1900's? If it had cool facial features or a more gargoyle esk look I wouldn't complain.

I like the look of the Bushwacker, tough little mech.

Never been a fan of the Annihilator, either. Horrible speed and armor trade-off for ridiculous close/mid-range firepower. Depending on whether you get stuck fighting out in the open or in close, it's either something you lob PPCs at while laughing, or it's ridiculously OP (well, until it drains the ten shots in each AC/10. It holds a strange place of being both my least favorite 'mech to pilot and my least favorite 'mech to fight against.

I always liked BT/MW designs for their realism, relative of course. At least they look more like combat vehicles, than Japanese-style giant humanoid robots with glowing eyes and mandatory helmet decorations.

I do not want to write a wall of text about technical characteristics of 50-60 mechs. So I only say about mechs I dislike for their design.

1) All mechs, which have weapons in their hands. Not integrated into arm, but held like rifle/gun.
Examples: Hathetman (on top of the list), No-dachi, Battlemaster.
In fact I used to dislike all mechs with hands, but new designs for MW:O looks much better.

The best part about the Battlemaster is that the giant doublebarrel gun in the left hand isn't the PPC its the dual machine guns.

Actually Ryoken isnt that bad ....
I used it alot

Good mech, but your right, pretty darn ugly though.

As far as looks go, I can't stand pretty much anything out of the TRO 3060 or anything after for that matter.

As for mechs in general, the Assassin comes to mind, as well as most of the Charger designs... I know there's more but none are really comeing to mind at the moment.

Continuing the "most disliked" theme for today...

Innersphere
  • Jagermech - I'm sorry.. I know I'm being superficial but IMHO this is if not one of the ugliest mech designs. To me it looks like like someone gave is a super-wedgy.

I am sorry, but how could you possibly even think badly of the JagerMech? As far as designs go, it is right up there on the "cool" list, second only to the Rifleman!

If you want to talk about ugly looking 'mechs then take a gander at the Axman - what was someone thinking when they designed that? Or, rather, should I say, what were they smoking when they thought of the Axman?

I have a distaste for mechs that are suppose to look like the name. The Spider. Great light mech, but the design drawings were just hideous. Add to that the Huron Warrior. You remember that piece of crap? The sensor array designed to look like a head dress? Barf.

I like the mechs that look more like the war machines they really are. Form follows function, thank you Mies. And I'd have to agree that any mech with a hand held weapon is also a joke. I love the looks of the Battlemaster, but that hand held PPC was just silly.

I hate to say this, but I'm also not a fan of the Hunchback. That damn shoulder cannon. The bore size on it stymied me. There's no way to get ammo up there into a breach that size. No doubt its a great mech on the field, I just couldn't get my mind around that gaping hole in the shoulder and imagining a shell that fit it.

Oh, I do not know... While I agree that 'mechs can carry hand-held weapons is a big joke, I do like the fact that most of them use the hands for more practical things, such as being able to right itself if it gets knocked down on the battlefield or be able to weild an axe that can slice through any terrain obstable it encounters (trees for example) and even against another 'mech should it get in close enough to use it.
Otherwise I agree with you - hand-held weapons: a big turn off, when the 'mechs themselves are able to carry lasers, autocannons, gauss rifles, RACS, missile mounts in almost every part of their design. When you have that, why do you really need a weapon such as a 'mech-sized PPC in your hand?

Bushwacker is a great name, if you know its roots. Sounds very australian  I also love its looks. Its a great little mech.

I like the Annihilator, for the following reasons:
1# Its the mech equivalent of godzilla
2# It has eye lasers.
3# It looks down on Atlas's in the way that Atlas's look down on medium mechs
4# I ran it in a few Solaris matches on MW4. It was completely unstoppable if fitted right.
5# Its not meant to be a pure combat weapon, its a fear weapon like the Atlas, except further along the fear scale. This is the mech you send in when you want an enemy city to surrender rather than having to fight for the enemy city. Eye beams+hugeness+godzillaness+ enormous autocannons= Psychological Fear Weapon.

Arguably hand held mech weapons could be useful on a versatility level- Instead of having to get the mech into a mechlab and crane up a gun and refit for a new weapon, just get the mech to put down his handheld weapon and pick up a different one from some kind of supply vehicle that carries a rack of them. Of course such weapons would have an accuracy/weight disadvantage.

Do not get me wrong. I think the bushwacker is my fav medium support mech, though I usually end up putting a big autocannon in it and use the missiles if I need to (usually srm).

Oh another that looks stupid is the fafnir. The artist drawings have mostly blown chunks. Looks like if it fired it would fall over. Too many guns, too big. And where is the counter balance. At least in the Mech Warrior 4 version they had counter balance. I would actually pilot that mech, though I know that **** be way off.

I'm a total hater of the Charger, it's an assault armed with 5 small lasers!?!?!??!?!?!? Seriously 5 small lasers????

The only good thing about it is

1. It's heat efficient
2. The Lyran's finally have a scout mech that fit's their TO&E

The CGR-1A1 isn't intended to engage enemy units, it's a scout. A very big scout. The small lasers are there in case it stumbles into some infantry. If it should have to engage an enemy 'mech, they also add 15 points of damage to the 16 it can deliver with punches or a kick.

There are variants which put it back into the 'traditional' role for a 'mech of this size classification. They also put it back at a speed more fitting for the tonnage used.

I don't usually fight in a Marauder, but when I do.... it's mounted with a railgun. And it's not THAT ugly.

My personal dislikes:

Awesome: Seriously, ***? Do you seriously NEED those huge shoulder guards that practically have "HEY, I'M OVER HERE, SHOOT ME!" written on them?

Locust: How do those stick legs not snap right after the torso is mounted? Better yet, how do they have enough sheer strength to even WALK?!?!

I also *dislike* the "scout" Charger. It just seems wrong - if you're gonna do recon, you should at least do it in something more inconspicuous. I'd rather have something lighter and faster for scout work, like a Raven, or a Jenner with the SRMs dropped in favor of an electronics package.

The other Charger variants are okay, and the Kurita "Hatamoto-" versions are pretty awesome visually and functionally.

It just feels like that under-powered assault, over-sized scout really doesn't have a role that it's really good at.

After playing the TT for a long time (as I'm sure most of you have) I've grown accustomed to some of the sillier designs, and have a fondness in my heart for a lot of designs that look a little awkward. Most of the ones that have been mentioned so far are fine, and my rule of thumb is this: If you can find even one picture of a mech that looks pretty good, the mech is fine. Some, however...

I hate the era of "How much crap can we cram on a mech?" I'm glad it's over.

Edit: Picture scramble!

Double edit! And daily double challenge. Name those mechs! 1-5 first row, 6-9 second row, 10-14 third row.
