[Shose] Cpt Ahab (Shodan's Servants - anyone remember System Shock 2? :-) )
for house Liao.
Most memorable moment: 1 shot one kill with my Javelin 4J alphastriking in an Atlas's head - reactor shut down immideatly
but i got the kill, lol.
I should have some screens anywhere on an old CD. Funny thing is: My brother still has it installed and launches the game from
time to time to listen to the Intro/Mainmenue music...

DCMS both times.
Anyone know of a Emulator, or private server for either? Because honestly those were the best Battletech simulators out.

Ha! You mean the IB site? That's Sparhawk's. Or you mean the mpbt info site? I haven't maintained that in a couple years, I suppose I should dig it out of the closet now when I can find time...
And, as you said...
...to absent friends. Balshone should be here.
Learning that Joe Balshone passed on saddens me a lot. DW was a fun one to work with, a good team player. Not the best duelist on Solaris but he was game to give it a try. His phone call rants at me about what I was doing or not doing always amused me. "Mac! You can't do that!" heh. Nice guy.
My wife at the time used to get so annoyed by all the phone calls from people asking to talk to MacFarlane. This all before the time of cell phones etc, most of our troop movements would take place during GEnie prime time hourly charges of 12.95 and hour (plus 2.00 an hour Sprint Net charge for me). So there was a lot of quick phones calls reacting to this or that invasion. Also long distance phone charges, man did this game used to burn a lot of cash.
Not even talking about computer hardware, thrustmaster set up and nice sound system that when I was piloting my MAD-3R the boom of the mechs footsteps would always draw my kids over. lol
A lot of damn fun memories with Mechwarrior of the 1992-96 time frame. I miss Kesmai, wish things hadn't gone the way they had. I'd really been hyped up for that next version.
Anyhow nice to see other old mechwarriors still floating around, I know a few are still out there. Is Rich/Ice of TBC still alive? One of my favorite memories was running some missions and realizing that Rich/Ice was the same Rich/Ice who I knew from table gaming back in the late 1970s/early 80s!. I recall having this feeling and saying something along the lines of ..hey man are you sort of short, red haired? He sort of freaked and said well I have a lot more grey now but yeah. At the time I was on the opposite coast line, small small world. I know Matt/VR moved out west to around the same general area that Rich/Ice lived, last I heard.
Anyhow good to see a few familar faces, wonder what Scorp, Blastum, Ghostrider and others are up to these days.

House Davion once and one time TBC, damn GR for talking me into coming back to Davion and then splitting. Man did that burn some bridges.
If I recall I think my Comstar # was 5033 lol but I might be off by a few its been a damn long time.

Well, Sean Lee MacFarlane, I know that GR has posted here on the MWO forums. Others are around, but there are still a few we haven't seen show up here. Hopefully they will.

Benden from house Davion, had a 65t Catapult before EA pulled the plug : despise them since .
Discovered Battletech board game with the 2nd edition, then first Mechwarrior on PC. Missed Genie/Solaris though.
Will certainly go Marik this time.
It would have been a long wait for sure... But MWO sounds promising.

And to set the record straight, I was ONE of the group of people who created the original NBT, and I got stuck with running it originally, cause as much fun as it was to create it, playing in it was SO much more fun, and lucky me, I drew the short straw. DP took over running it for me at my request, real life issues made it impossible for me to give NBT the time it required. Anything else after that..not important, long time ago.
As for why BTech 3025 was shut down..you folks are funny! MS having something to do with it..really..yer kidding right? MW4 was released the year BEFORE the beta, 3025 was nothing but pure profit for MS, they owned the IP, here's a great piece of software that would do NOTHING but make MS money for nothing, especially if the GEnie MPBT was any indication, people had paid by the HOUR to play that! Nope, not their doing.
EA switching to consoles..eh..yes, they did do consoles..but they'd ALWAYS had a larger console market then a PC market, so..nope, sorry. Some other EA PC titles you might have heard of from the same time period...Earth and Beyond(what is it with sci-fi based MMOs?), Ultima Online, true it was a few years old at the time but it WAS a big money maker for EA during the early 2000s..The Sims, remember THAT silly little game? HUGE money maker for EA, The Sims Online were in early dev during the same time as 3025's testing. Battlefield 1942..closed testing same time as 3025. Dark Age of Camelot..yep..same time..still running even now as a F2P game. Motor City Online..gah..horrid game, I was in it's testing group too, still it did make money for EA. Sorry, no, console focus wasn't the reason either.
Here's the reason..and you folks are going to hate this as much as I did back then..and still do.
Kesmai..the folks who made the game. Great guys, wonderful games, totally worthless when it came to security. Did you know you could hack INTO the GEnie system via the MPBT? Not to mention the hacks and exploits in the MPBT itself. Solaris..yeah..same thing. BattleTech 3025...that was a hacker's playground, security was so weak and useless in it. What, did you all forget all the exploits and hacks in the 3025 beta? It literally turned into a nightmare for EA, Kesmai couldn't fix the exploits being found AND they couldn't stop the hacks being created, and EA really didn't have the manpower to waste on it, since they had quite a few other projects of their own going on at the same time, PC and console. Just wasn't worth the money being put into it, MW4 wasn't doing as well as expected, the beta population, despite what some of you think, was NOT that large WITH an open beta, the numbers just weren't there to support putting even MORE money into the project, it was cancelled.
Sometimes, no matter how fun a game might seem to you, it can still be too fundamentally broken to be worth anything. BattleTech 3025 was one of those games.
