And you think thats fair? Someone who has money can spend however much they want and get whatever mech they want now through no effort, while I have to work for what I want?
If the same equipment is available to everyone.. yes it's fair. Just because someone gets something before you, does not make it unfair.

ESPECIALLY SO if people are grouped in matches by the level of their equipment.
Then it doesn't matter if you payed to get there or fought your way up, you're fighting at the same level regardless.

That trailer few years back looked Kick ***. Now its a P2W game. Should of been a retail game for $49.99 I would of Bought it Day One Via Pre Order on Steam...
First of all, if I had a dollar for every Mad Kitty I've smoked in a Raven I'd be debt free. The nice thing about Mechwarrior games is that it isn't about the size of the mech, it is about who is piloting it(hence the title).
Second, please do the world a favor and check your post for grammar and spelling mistakes before posting and you may have people at least try to take your point seriously.

If I can blow **** up for entertainment, so I can decompress from my job, and it's free?
I don't need to be a super-dominant Mechwarrior to get my blowshitup on. I play games
like this to have some fun. I take my table top BT gaming a little more seriously, I use
that as a heavy mental workout of strategic and tactical thinking. I have spent a few hundred
bucks on sourcebooks, and minis, not to mention time and energy creating units that can
compete against freinds of mine that are also strategic geniuses.
I want to play this game to make stuff go BOOM. Free making stuff go BOOM is best.

Absolutely not! I enjoyed the read quite well. It was an excellent breakdown of the dos and don'ts of free to play games.
I think PGI will do a good job, but these concerns should be voiced as soon as we have them, to let the developers know exactly how we feel about it.

Using systems like this and World of Tanks can create items/mechs with slightly better (or at least different) abilities. But in a simulation game, it doesn't matter how big your gun is if you can't hit with it. Players who don't spend much money can still compete and enjoy the game.

I would hate to see a WoT style of F2P because of the cash structure and crew characteristics.
If this game is not directly dependent on the my skills as a pilot that would be an incredible shame.
Here is to hoping a great game is soon to come.

You know, like a regular game.
Jeez, it's amazing how up-in-arms people will get over F2P as if it's suddenly sinful to spend money on a game and reward the developers for their efforts. Just treat it like any other game you actually have to pay money for and suddenly it's no big deal.
"It's free-to-play! I can't pay!" should not be your motto.
Not everyone has tons of money to throw around. I know for me, a new game is a once-a-year purchase, so free-to-play games like this are a big part of how I have fun. I'm not saying paid games are bad, I'm not saying paying for games is bad, but advertising a game as free and then severely gimping everyone who can't pay is just dishonest.

This,
Think about the fact that this game wouldn't be coming if F2P wasn't an option as stated in the blog. Personally so long as the game is dont well I don't have any problem paying for content or subscription or whatever. Fact is EVERYONE on this board would have willing given up $60 for a retail boxed game. I played WoW for 3 years, through 3 expansions, and I don't have a fraction of the love for that series as I do for Btech and Mechwarrior. So here it is PGI, shutupandtakemymoney.

And its one thing to start giving the idea that Piranha games are being dishonest by what you said, which it seems to be. Pardon me if I'm wrong.
For one thing, they already come out and said the no player can buy advantages over the other players for real cash so I don't know how they are being dishonest and gimping the free players.
Of course, anyone has the right to remain skeptical and bitter but I rather choose to stay with the information that we already have.and be positive about it. Besides, I've dabbled in a number of Western-styled F2P games and they have so far been very solid and a very far cry from the rampant F2P Asian/Russian MMOs.
There is a difference between F2P and P2Win(Pay-2-Win) models.

IIRC, It doesn't work exactly like that. LoL works as such that aprt of the Champions pool is Free-to-Play. Which part of it rotates on a regular schedule. "Buying" a Champion means you can use him even when he's not currently in the Free-to-Play pool. So what it basically means is that you can stay with that one character instead of having to switch regularily. (Meanwhile, all the Champions are balanced to the same level. Or that's at least how the Devs want it to be.
The League of Legends model would be ideal for such a game as this. Moreso than the WoT model, I think.
Every week, there is a pool of ten free champions that are common to all players. This allows people to try some characters they otherwise wouldn't think about with no commitment.
Whether you win OR lose each game, you earn 'influence points', a currency used to buy everything from the champions (Think of this like buying a mech) and Runes. (Items that improve your stats. Comparable to improved Mech parts, I guess).
The microtransaction model works like this. It's not giving you power or an advantage, it's simply paying for convenience. A new champion typically costs 6300IP, or 975 Riot Points (The real money equivalent). So you want that new character NOW and have some money? Buy and spend some RP! If not, you can pay with in-game currency. Note that runes and anything that CAN give you an advantage cannot be bought with RP. Ever.
The other things RP can be spent on are cosmetic skins (Because why not? If you like the game you're getting FOR FREE and you have the disposable income, it's only nice to pay the devs for their work), or XP/IP boosts for a length of time. Again, you're not buying power here. It's just condensing the amount of matches you need to play for a comparable gain, giving people with money but not time the same advantages as a student such as myself with time but not an overwhelming amount of money. Everyone's a winner, except the over-entitled six year olds.
